Stop smoking

Is this normal when starting to vape?

Hello. Inspired by you guys I am Day 2 no ciggs. I was really suffering so went and bought a vaper today.
I must have looked pretty desperate as the guy at the shop sold me nicotine liquid at 10mgs.
Have to say I feel much less desperate but a bit nauseous. Is this common and does it pass?

Ooh that seems very high.
I though 8mgs was a high dose

I vape 3mgs now (and to be honest it's more the puffy vape habit now and could probably now vape 0)

Maybe try a 6mgs nicotine and then drop once you are used to vaping.

Piesy · 14/04/2017 00:07

Thanks. Think I may have overdone it in an attempt to stave-off those low moments.
Can I ask how long it took you to stop missing ciggs so acutely?
I like to think that I won't be such a tit and feel so low for too long.
I clearly used them as a mood-lifter/reward and obvs need to get a grip and re-think..

Depends what kind of e cig you have I think. I missed fags until I got a decent machine. Not smoked fags now for a year and a half and I'd never smoke again.I love vaping now and don't miss fags, but it did take a good few months to make the the change, I was 'duel fuelling' for quite a while. Stick at it OP, it's worth it!

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 00:19

If you're mouth to lung vaping then it's not high, I started on 18mg (30 a day smoker) and am now on 10mg
Sub tanks use lower nicotine
What vape did you get?

Beelzebop · 14/04/2017 00:23

8mg is not high at all. A confirmed heavy smoker would use 24mg. I use 18. You can feel sick OP x.

Piesy · 14/04/2017 00:54

I'm doing the mouth to lung thing.

A couple of months, you say? Christ on a bike.
I'm going to be an absolute delight to live with.

I am enjoying little things like not skulking around the back of car parks etc to have a cigarette when I'm out during the daytime, due to being embarrassed at still smoking at my age.
I really hope I can stick at this. Am finding previous threads on the topic hugely helpful. I think I'm definitely the worst woe-is-me type on here at the moment Smile

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 00:56

That's fine for mouth to lung Smile have a few puffs then stop if you feel sick, I do remember feeling that when I first started
Drink loads of water to help with the dry mouth and experiment with flavours

Piesy · 14/04/2017 01:09

Ok.

I got an eGo-t. I'm a total virgin vaper.

The guy said to start off on that and then come back to chat about options, kit etc.

The shop had a semi-dodgy feel to it. Reminded me of my younger-day adventures.
But I think that if I hang around with you guys I'll figure out what's what, and buy online.

Thanks, all. You've made a lovely difference to my day.

Wow that's pretty hard core to start with that! I've got an leaf I stick tank and mini nautilus top ( don't know technical term for it), no wonder you're feeling a bit sick.

Destinysdaughter · 14/04/2017 01:12

What flavours are you using? I've tried loads but mainly stick with vanilla now. Tobacco flavour is yuk!

Piesy · 14/04/2017 01:25

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I insisted on tobacco flavour as I couldn't bear the thought of replacing a cigarette with vaping a fruit bowl. He was trying to enlighten me with options but I was miserably looking to replicate the smoking experience.

I know I'm a numpty. My plan was to get through the first few Days of Horror on tobacco and then go back to get some better flavours.
Now that I've confessed all to you, I'm going to succeed at this through grim determination Grin

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 01:36

How many cigarettes were you smoking? Many people do upgrade kit after a while Smile
Tobacco flavours do definitely suck! I love cake and biscuit flavours but have started using some fruit ones like fruit pastilles and fizzy chews

Piesy · 14/04/2017 01:44

5 a day, if husband was around. I was being a closet smoker as he is a militant anti-smoker and the grief from him was painful (hangs head in shame as all my secrets tumble out)

If he was out of town (half the month) then 10 ish.

You might be able to drop down a nicotine level fairly quickly then, maybe grab another flavour in a lower strength? Lots of online offers at the minute

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 01:49

Here's one to try. A quid each so if you hate the flavour it's no great loss!

Greystars · 14/04/2017 02:22

I'm on 18mg too, haven't wanted a cigarette since I started vaping (correctly) in November.

I felt a big sick at first and had "I want a cigarette moments" but it was technique I think :) lady in my local amazing vape shop said to do it from the side of your mouth and that would help. Helped me and since then haven't had any cravings and mostly no feeling sick. For the first week I couldn't sleep but that soon past.

If I take in too much, sometimes feel a bit queezy but all in all much much happier! And I don't smell anymore :)

I've always used the menthol mint flavour, the tobacco flavour might actually be making you sick! I tried the fruit flavours but just tasted synthetic - yuck!

I have an aspire-CF VV and use a nautilus mini tank - it's adjustable which is great and having gone through a lot of trial error the best one for me.

Well done for giving up Grin

Piesy · 14/04/2017 02:56

I'll go back after the long weekend and try a flavour.

I gave up for 10 years to have kids etc but ridiculously restarted.

Was wondering what other websites pp bought their liquids from?

Ollivander84 · 14/04/2017 17:40

Jeepers. Vaping helped you quit for 3 years solid after 28 years?
I find that downright inspiring.

I have got through today by just looking forward to a vape at the times I would have smoked.

I actually think I do need to drop the nicotine dosage as I am definitely hooked on this stuff now..

I'm 10 months in without a cigarette. Smoked for about 20 years, 30 a day Smile

Destinysdaughter · 15/04/2017 07:53

E cigs are bloody miraculous IMO! I smoked for 30 years, tried everything to stop and kept failing. I'd pretty much given up giving up till I tried vaping. Now I haven't smoked for a year and a half and I'm not even tempted by fags. Smile

Chillidawg · 15/04/2017 08:27

I changed to vaping on a whim after 36 years at 20 a day. I had a random thought that I'd probably be walking round with a little oxygen tank feeding into my nose by the age of 60, and that scared the shit out of me. I was waiting outside the vape shop at opening time next morning!
That was 18 months ago. I started on 18mg, which was matched to the brand I was then smoking. I tried tobacco and fruit flavours and just didn't get on with them. I changed to unflavoured. I am now on 3mg unflavoured which I order from onepoundeliquid. I use an istick and a mini nautilus tank.
I'm due to move down to 0mg in a few weeks in order to get myself off nicotine totally by my 50th. Recent chest X-ray shows I've been really lucky.
Sometimes I can't believe it's really me, that I've done this. Then I take a deep breath and fill my lungs with air, and hold my breath. Wow.
