As the old one is nearly full!

All & any vaping chat welcome.

No question is too daft to ask. We've all been there at the start of vaping in the minefield that it is.

Only rule is: No Willy Waving!!

Thanks, that's great info. I remember a similar horrible phase on my first week with cigalikes a few years ago. Looks like I'll be back at the smoke shop at the weekend! Thank god I've got a local one!!

Summerisle1 · 05/03/2015 12:36

Thanks for advice. I shall definitely wander into the Brighton shop next week and have a go at stuff. It's not that I'm totally discontented with starter kit but I do think I'd like to move upwards a bit for more features like voltage control.

One thing that has really struck me is how sensitive my nose has become, helped I think that this time of giving up, DH doesn't smoke either so the house is totally free from stinkies. Unfortunately, I can now smell everyone who does smoke and they only have to walk past me for me to detect the pong. To think that I smelled similarly!!

ThisTimeTed · 05/03/2015 13:04

Hi everyone sorry I haven't started my own thread

I've been reading through a lot of posts and I've decided I need to try vaping!
If you can help me with my choice as there is too much around I would be very great full Smile I've had a look at ecig wizard starter kit, Vape Escape Aspire K1 starter kit and the Evod starter kit which one do you think is the best starter kit?

I am a secret smoker only smoke at home and get through about 4 cigarettes a day would probably smoke more if I wasn't soo embarrassed to go out and smoke in front of my house Blush
I really want something reliable that won't break and that lasts also any places I can get great tasting (not too expensive) liquid.

thanks

I was about to order the aspire kit 2 days ago than chickened out Blush

just watched some videos on the Aspire and they look better than the Evod I've just seen the aspire Premium starter kit I've read that quite a few people started off with the basic starter kit then upgraded to the premium kit I would just like to start with a good quality kit do you have any experience with the premium kit?

sorry about all the questions I have no clue about any of this

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/03/2015 14:03

I dithered around for 18 months before switching to vaping because I couldn't decide what to get so I think the important thing is to just buy something and give it a go Grin

Whatever you buy for your first kit is very unlikely to be the best vape ever, and even if it was, there'll be something else better that comes out next week. It might be useful to decide on your budget first, always bearing in mind that vaping doesn't work for everyone even with the best kit, nicest liquid and the best advice.

I've heard very good things about the Aspire though, I don't think you'll go far wrong with one of those.

Right - tobacco ran out 3 hours ago so now attempting to be a full time vaper. I have tonsillitis and a horrid cough so hoping that makes going smoke free easier!

Allergictoironing · 05/03/2015 16:52

ThisTimeTed I second Vaping King for some lovely flavours (mmm caramel latte!).

You may also want to look at LiQuid as they do cheap UK made liquids - you can try to work out what types of flavours you like best at a lower cost, then get similar "boutique" liquids of that type.

Toofat2BtheFly · 05/03/2015 17:01

I'm 11 wks off the cigs ,

First 2 wks was patches and inhalator ,the one night at the MIL , she offered me a go on her puffer and from that moment on I was a convert .

Initially I had a cheap starter kit ( £8 or so from eBay ) but it was a bit leaky and didn't hold charge well .

I popped into my local vape shop for advice ( such a lovely bunch ,Very knowledgable ) and came out with a eleaf Istick , cost about £40 for whole set up and about £4 a wk on liquid .

I will never go back to the stinkys .

Anywho , I find it hard to pick a flavour , what's your recommendation ? , I like a strong flavour so it feels like a 'hit' but I'm everso fed up of strawberry menthol , thoughts ?

Lillygolightly · 05/03/2015 17:15

Hey fellow Vape ladies,

So glad to have found this thread. I gave up smoking for about the 4/5th time in October and now that I have my e-cig I will never go back to buying cigs.

I first bought an e-cig about 3 or 4 years ago and could never get myself to get on with it and so went back to smoking not long after. Decided to try again a month before my 33rd birthday and wow...the hardware is much improved and I now love my e-cig.

Admittedly I have had to go through a few tank/battery changed to find what works for me...but I have a great local shop who have been very helpful and great on price. It also took me trying a few different liquids to find a flavour I really liked. Having smoked menthols for years I thought menthol flavour would be the way to go but found it felt like I got the kind of brain freeze you get from eating ice cream or sucking a very strong mint. I tried some fruit flavours and loved the Berry Nice but got so used to it I couldn't taste the fruity flavour anymore (anyone else had this?) so found a different fruit combination called Wonderberry (think the gooseberry makes it taste stronger) and am now loving that.

Can anyone recommend any great fruit flavours? (nothing citrus though)

I use Liberty Flights, they have a loyalty card which I like and always have a flavour on offer each week so you can try new flavours for a cheap price. Also love their bulk buy deals so I always have a good stock of liquid so I don't worry about running out.

To answer a fellow newbie, I've gone for ab evod with an 1100 battery because an irl friend has got on really well with it.

Gnarly - good luck!! You can do it!

And yes, the smell of smokers is so strong and unpleasant now. I can't believe that i smelled like that!

Feel like I've turned a corner today, coughed up loads of shit yesterday/today and haven't had any wobbly moments

Am currently vaping mango. I am loving the fruity flavours. Tobacco flavour was bland, coffee was yuck and menthol tasted like a nursing home.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 05/03/2015 20:49

I lost the thread for a while. Marking my place, I'm still smoking maybe 3 stinkies in the morning but plan to cut them out soon.

FranTan · 05/03/2015 21:50

Hi there
Joining the thread as a newbie to vaping; been doing so for 3 days and had last cig this morning.
I'm actually dual addicted to the nictotine losenges as have been reducing my smoking to under 5 per day.
Anyway, am using 1.2% e liquid (PG and VG) on advice of shop. Cravings not too bad but habe developed an awful tickly cough this afternoon and the roof of my mouth stings when I vape. Is this to be expected?
Thanks

FranTan · 05/03/2015 22:56

Actually, I have another question but it's a biggie. I have intermittent health anxiety which is focussed on my mouth (previous investigation by oral surgeon), which has eventually led me to the decision I MUST quit smoking. Previously, when I mentioned to my GP that I waw considering vaping, she dismissed it as "possibly as bad as smoking". Thing is, I just can't seem to quit on NRT alone or cold turkey, hence the preference to vape.

Perhaps those more knowledgeable than me could provide some information on the most recent research? Many thanks

crispandfruity · 06/03/2015 06:13

I'm not knowledgeable but from my reading there is a balance of risks - there might be some risk but it's a hell of a lot safer than fags.

130 hours stinky free. That's at least 120 -130 not smoked.

Hi FranTan. First I'll address your worries about the safety of vaping. Vaping is a comparatively new thing and as such there haven't been any long term (20 year type of thing) studies into the effects simply because it hasn't been around that long. However it is definitely known that the major health effects of smoking are caused by the combustion (burning) of the tobacco leaves (plus some of the additives in cigarettes) rather than the nicotine itself.

There have been a few studies that show potentially harmful substances produced by some types of e-cig but these are in very small amounts, less than the same substances produced by cigarettes. It may put your mind at rest to have a read of some of the articles written by Dr Farsalinos, who is a very respected cardiology specialist.

Secondly, the coughing and itchy mouth. Coughing when vaping can be caused by a number of things. You tend to need to drink more when starting vaping, so keeping a drink to hand to sip can be useful. Also you need to use a different pattern of vaping compared to cigarettes, e.g. with a fag you smoke constantly for 5-10 minutes then stop for an hour or so, with vaping little & often is the rule.

You may want to try reducing the nicotine content of the e-cigs as well. Nicotine strength is a very in-exact science; I was a 30 a day smoker yet happily vaped 18mg, which is normally recommended for people who smoked 20 a day; then again I know other people who used to smoke only 10 a day yet needed the same strength as me to quit with. As the nicotine is absorbed through the mouth rather than the lungs with vaping that could be causing the itching mouth, though as the lozenges work the same way that's unlikely.

You could have a problem with the PG in the liquid, there's a few people on here that had that and I'm sure will post advice.

Lastly do remember that your body will have to get used to not having all the other things that you get with smoking, and it can take quite a while to adjust.
