Bum! I've been making ds a veggie shepherds pie and I put the potatoes on to boil and got engrossed in the 'rabbit' thread, now his pots are black, the saucepan is even blacker!!!!

MN has got a lot to answer for sometimes!

Can't believe I didn't smell them burning!

lol I do that all the time Squirrel. Try boiling thesaucepan with some soda crystals (washing soda stuff) or even some bicarb. Works a treat and not much scrubbing to do after.

NotActuallyAMum · 08/02/2006 16:25

Haven't looked at that rabbit thread yet, think it might make me laugh too much at work

Squirrel3 · 08/02/2006 16:25

Thank you tarantula, I have just boiled it up with a bit of washing powder (no soda crystals) thought I'd give it a try and it worked!

hello,
How is everyone.
Can't wait to get back to my ward then i can join in the afternoon chats. I have to wait till I get home and most of you have gone then.

Going out for meal with DP tonight to a cosy little restaurant not to far away, think we'll stay in on valentine night. it'll be too packed everywhere to go out.
We don't normally do the present thing but this year DP asked what I wanted so now I have to think of something adnfind the time(and money) to go and get something for him

tarantula · 08/02/2006 16:41

Yeah washing powder is good too they should ahve it on the side of the box I thnk

tarantula · 08/02/2006 16:42

ooo have fun tonight wmnhs wish I was going outCant complain too much though as dp does have dinner on the table most evenings

NotActuallyAMum · 08/02/2006 16:42

Hello workingmum, hope you're OK

That's what we said about valentines day - too packed and too expensive. Not that we're tight gits I've got DPs valentine present sorted, just need to get him something for his birthday now on 25th, got 2 weeks to get something sorted....

Squirrel3 · 08/02/2006 16:48

I totally agree with you about Valentines day but it is the anniversary of the day we met, that is the only reason we 'treat' each other on this day. I think if we had met on a different day we wouldn't bother.

Just think if I hadn't met dp I wouldn't be a step mum and I wouldn't have found MN!!!!

NotActuallyAMum · 08/02/2006 16:53

Ditto Squirrel I found this site by searching on something like "how the bloody hell do I cope with being a stepmum"

Our day we met anniversary is 10th June, we've said we're always going to go away fo it even if it's only for the night. We're going for a week this year though because it's the start of the world cup so we're having a week in Skegness watching the football in the pub - bliss

workingmum do enjoy your meal, and let us know what you had - might give me some ideas for next Tuesday

tarantula · 08/02/2006 16:54

Well thats different then Squirrel tho as it has real meaning. I like the idea of valentines day as a special day for lovers but but not the commercialism.
Tend to celebrate the 1st of may instead (Beltane) and of course Halloween (Samhain) which is when we got handfasted.

Do you know I cant remember when dp and I met at all.I know it was about 2 weeks before I graduated but tahts about it Im awful with things like that.

NotActuallyAMum · 08/02/2006 16:57

lol tarantula

I'm very good with dates I've got a fantastic memory - well, long-term anyway. Ask me what I did yesterday or last week and I haven't got a bloody clue but ask about something years ago and I'm straight there

Have a good evening everyone

Squirrel3 · 08/02/2006 16:59

Beltane, handfasted? You must explain when you have time.

I only remember it was valentines day because he had come to out a new ceiling up in the kitchen and his mate was teasing us about us being valentines. He could obviously see that we were attracted to each other, even if I didn't see it at the time, I knew we had 'clicked' but I didn't really fancy him....sssshhh! don't tell him!

Am off too Will explain all tomorrow. Its all hippy pagan stuff what with me being a good Irish Catholic and all

bm3sm2 · 08/02/2006 20:16

Hi all anyone here? Sister gave me surprise visit, then school run then tea time them homework and bath routine. God I need a glass of wine! Told dh I told you about the washing line and he said its was a joke ( like I didn't know!) and you will all think he is a prick. Agreed

I would like him to make the effort right enough but its always down to money (and babysitters) I will however, get some wine in and make a nice dinner.

NotActuallyAMum · 09/02/2006 10:16

Hi all

bm3sm3 glad you told him about the washing line - he might get you something really nice and say "tell them all about that!

I'm a bit fed up today - trouble with my eyes again, can't bloody see properly!! Been wearing contact lenses for 15 years and never had problems but the last 6 months have been awful for some reason. Looks like it's another trip to the opticians....

How's everyone else?

Squirrel3 · 09/02/2006 10:45

Ok thanks NAAM, I've worn glasses since I was about six, I tried contact lenses but I couldn't get on with them. I actually like my glasses they are part of me IYKWIM. Just as well 'cos I'm blind as a bat without them! I haven't been able to see the biggest letter on the chart since I was six! I have to have the lenses 'zapped' to make them thinner otherwise they would be so thick I'm sure my nose would break with the weight!!!! My Grandad was registered blind but he could see better than me!!!

DP didn't realise how blind I was until last year whilst on holiday we went to a water park (flumes etc), they wouldn't let me wear my glasses so dp had to lead me around and tell me when to 'step' etc. I did try to go on a flume. I was so disorientated and I couldn't see what was going to happen next I couldn't cope and I had to get out. It was awful, can you imagine being blindfolded and going down flumes and not knowing when you were going to hit the water at the exit, then trying to find your way out? I asked dp to lead me to the sauna and jaquzzi and there I stayed until dp came to lead me back to the changing rooms later, (of course by then I was a lot slimmer and I looked like a shriveled prune!!!)

NotActuallyAMum · 09/02/2006 10:57

lol Squirrel - don't think I'm quite that bad My prescription is -2.25 in my left eye and -4.5 in my right eye but it's my right eye that's playing up. I'm convinced it's got worse, if I close my left eye it's almost as if I haven't got my lens in. I put my glasses on last night - first time for ages - and it was no better so I really do think I need a stronger lens. Back to the optician I go...

Squirrel3 · 09/02/2006 11:05

Actually I supose I'd better confess, I'm not really a squirrel, I'm not a mum or a nan, infact I'm not even a woman, I'm really a four eyed geek who likes talking to you lovely laaaaaadieeeees! [drool emoticon]

Hope you get your eyes sorted NAAM, there's nothing worse than not being able to see properly.

NotActuallyAMum · 09/02/2006 11:20
