Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

Gb men managed to not drop the baton for once, they are kings at that.

Well done Tebogo. Fantastic performance.

Lyles was giving it the Billy big bollocks before the race then came third. What a prat he now looks.

Love that! He definitely was! Glad we all have the same view of Lyles! There’s another word beginning with B and ending in D will and L and N in the middle! Phonetically speaking! 😂😂 Makes you wonder what those people setting up the Josh Kerr thread were thinking!!

Supergirl1958 · 08/08/2024 19:51

@Sulusu That was effing huge!!

murasaki · 08/08/2024 19:52

Apparently Lyles has covid. If they knew before the race, he shouldn't have run, otherwise it was a very quick test once they'd wheeled him off.....

Supergirl1958 · 08/08/2024 19:53

Lyles has Rona!!

Supergirl1958 · 08/08/2024 19:54

@murasaki he was hugging
(not cuddling) other competitors 😳

Mmm, if he turns out for the relays tomorrow, it's an excuse for that performance not real, but I can't see how he can now.

Holluschickie · 08/08/2024 19:58

I really don't want anything to take away from Tebogo, Lyles' covid or not.

I get tired of the US athletes constantly making a huge fuss about everything, getting lots of attention, prancing about before and after the race, while athletes from tiny, poor nations with zero support turn up, run quietly and do their job. I felt exactly the same about Julien Alfred's win over Sha'carri.

Agree fully with this.

Supergirl1958 · 08/08/2024 20:03

@Holluschickie agreed!

Holluschickie · 08/08/2024 20:10

Wow Katarina Johnson-Thompson is so graceful in the hurdles. Though I don't really follow the heptathlon.

ASaltyWoman · 08/08/2024 20:14

My heart rate's through the roof just watching KJT's 200m.

Holluschickie · 08/08/2024 20:18

I must check in tomorrow and watch the rest of KJT's events.

ChristmasCatBells · 08/08/2024 20:20

Anyone watching the sport climbing? Men's final tomorrow, two brits through and women's Sunday with one brit.
Exciting semis over the last few days.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2024 20:30

Femke Bol looked so tired in that race.

McLaughlin-Levrone was amazing. New world record!

Sulusu · 08/08/2024 20:31

Femke Bol does too many events IMO. She is an incredible athlete but needs to not run the all the relay heats too, she looked knackered there.

burblish · 08/08/2024 20:39

@Sulusu Michael Johnson is making exactly the same point, noting that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone didn't run in the mixed 4x400m relay where Femke Bol ran that extraordinary and exhausting anchor leg to take gold.

I love it. The strength, the agility, the flexibility, and the strategic thinking and planning make it utterly addictive.

LittleBowSheep · 08/08/2024 21:15

I was watching one of the women's climbing competitions the other day and they were scaling that wall in just over 6 seconds. It was utterly amazing.

It takes me longer than that to get up off the sofa.

Was that the one with ropes? I was flabbergasted at the speed of them. Incredible!

No, they had safety harnesses but the wall was made up of protruding footholds and handholds.

Yes, that’s the one I saw. I described it badly!

ChristmasCatBells · 09/08/2024 06:18

That's the speed climbing event. I don't watch that one.
@crosspurposes will you be watching the sport climbing finals today and tomorrow. I'm hoping for a medal for Adam Ondra today!

I will be but possibly not live because I've been watching most of my Olympics time shifted thanks to modern technology.

TokyoSushi · 09/08/2024 10:31

Loving the heptathlon and desperate for KJT to do well, although she's just thrown an excellent javelin which will help. She always looks utterly furious to be where she is, like for goodness sake, I have to be in the bloody Olympics. But she's amazing, and it just makes me like her even more!
