Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

They are really hyping Keely up. I hope she can get that gold, but the pressure on her is immense. I really wish the BBC would calm down with that.

This was my concern with it all. I’m glad she won but even Steve cram said before the race that he couldn’t see anyone else but Keely winning and I really wanted to yell at him! I’ve had a terrible day, it wouldn’t have taken much to tip me over the edge!

A good day in the end for the results 🥰

AndNobbyDancing · 05/08/2024 21:35

Missed everything today due to work, about to load up and try and cram in as much as I can before I collapse. Sadly late July early August is the only time I can't have Flexi time and hours are long.

that is exactly what i said!

she did it, unbelievable. fantastic

Fizbosshoes · 05/08/2024 21:52

Yeah we were also nervous about how much she was hyped up but fantastic that she came through and won, must be so much pressure!

Did anyone see Dina Asher Smith race? She qualified for the 200m final but looked really angry/upset at the end

That pole vault was insane!! They would run out of space to put the bar much higher, but he def looked like he could have gone even higher!

Arconialiving · 05/08/2024 22:28

It's been an amazing day all round - started with triathlon, crazy falls & amazing talent in the gymnastics, kayak cross, cycling and then Keeley! Loved it all! So glad I'm using annual leave to watch it all!

Hope your day is better tomorrow @Supergirl1958

Arconialiving · 05/08/2024 22:28

Gutted for the GB hockey girls and Mollie though!

BestIsWest · 06/08/2024 06:34

Yes, I wondered what was up with Dina Asher Smith too. Gabby Thomas put a hand on her arm to congratulate her and she didn’t acknowledge her.

Marshtit · 06/08/2024 06:46

anyone see the american discus thrower, the camera kept focusing on her Grant lookalike coach Zebulon Sion!

A bit of digging around on X. There is a bit of needle between Asher smith and Thomas. Also think there is something going on with Asher Smith. She’s saying all the right things, there’s just no conviction!

@Arconialiving thanks me too! I was almost ready to give up yesterday!

Looking forward to more velodrome action!!

Full marks to the BBC production team for the 800m montage. I know they would have got it semi- prepared but to insert the clips and do the voice over so quickly y, good stuff. I hadn’t realised so few British people had won it. If (hopefully) she’s still on form in four years time, she ‘ll definantly be one off our poster girls for the games.

Izzynohopanda · 06/08/2024 08:21

Diplantis- wow! Felt I was witnessing something extra special then. Pole-vaulting is such a crazy sport.

Only 10 British women have ever won Olympic gold, in athletics

Supergirl1958 · 06/08/2024 08:41

@Fizbosshoes so many more have had potential as well! Shows you the world quality in athletics.

Izzynohopanda · 06/08/2024 09:53

@Fizbosshoes Wow!

Supergirl1958 · 06/08/2024 10:15

Wow did that Swedish riders horse get spooked, that was really strange :(

EtonMessy · 06/08/2024 10:16

Watching the bouldering , I’m sure some of these climbers are part spider, part Velcro !! The Australian Oceania Mackenzie is making it looking effortless !!

Just switched channels and rewound to watch it, very strange wasn’t it. Hope the beautiful horse is ok 😞

Sulusu · 06/08/2024 10:55

Why does it feel like there are fewer cycling events this time round. Did they reduce the events from Tokyo?

Itsallok · 06/08/2024 10:59

Australian here - shouting with excitement about the other Fox sister taking the other gold on offer in the kayak x.

Only person without an Olympic medal in kayaking is her Dad

May not have a kayak medal, but was World champion (for GB ) back in the day for canoe slalom. Her aunt competed (for GB) in canoe slalom as well, but didn’t win an Olympic medal. Her children also compete (but not in Olympics thus year).(knew the aunt as a teenager).

Lentilweaver · 06/08/2024 12:06

Keely was so fabulous. And so young!

Fizbosshoes · 06/08/2024 12:44

Listening to BBC 5 live on the radio at work. The youngest skateboarder (and indeed youngest athlete in the Olympics) is a Chinese girl who is 11!!😳

I can’t imagine being so good at something at the age of 11 to be able to compete on the world stage. She did fantastic too. They all seem really young in the skateboarding, mostly teenagers.
Which makes the IOC’s decision to allow a convicted child rapist to compete at the Games even more disgusting 🤬

DuncinToffee · 06/08/2024 13:23

11!

I thought the minimum age was 13 and even that seems too young to me
