I am over the bloody moon about verstappens penalties Grin

Me too and about bloody time the idiot got penalised. He so often cannot cope under pressure

Rowgtfc72 · 27/10/2024 21:37

Charles was a very lucky boy there!
Ferrari need to pit him and go for fastest lap.

Brazilianadventure · 27/10/2024 21:45

Yay Carlos well driven.

Bless, it is hard that he is leaving Ferrari but they couldn’t turn the opportunity of Lewis.

Very happy that Sainz got that win with Ferrari. Great drive from him.

Also great drive from Magnusson in the Haas. The Mercs gave us some entertainment with their battle.

I think the Verstappen penalties were justified, but, it just highlights how damn inconsistent the stewarding is from week to week.

StarCourt · 27/10/2024 22:04

I agree about the similarities between Max and Michael.
Goi g to be difficult for Lando and Max to retain their friendship too.

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 27/10/2024 22:13

Of course - we seem to be assuming Max was trying to race and was hotheaded enough to be reckless.

He could just be deliberately trying to destroys Lando's races to maintain his own lead....

Ie he doesn't care if HE crashes out of the race so long as he takes Norris with him.

Tilda77 · 27/10/2024 22:14

Ferrari need to hope Lewis does a good job next season or they will look foolish for getting rid of Carlos. Well done Carlos! Good to see Lando closing the gap to Max.

I agree. I couldn't stand Michael either. I hate dirty drivers

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 28/10/2024 08:32

Aye. It's hard to say now because no one deserves Michael's accident and injuries but I was not keen on him as a driver - anyone watching him try to drive Barrichello into the wall that time knows he also used a reputation of ruthlessness to try and scare people into giving him track position. And he had a tendancy to push the rules beyond what was fair - or safe!- just for any advantage.

YouAreAllMySymmetry · 28/10/2024 08:44

I think both he and Senna seemed like pricks tbh. Maybe that's what it takes to be considered 'great' or whatever but I don't enjoy it.

Brazilianadventure · 28/10/2024 09:09

The Barrichello incident for me was the worst for me. I know he took out Damon and tried it on Jacques.

Its the one thing many people miss about Silverstone 2021, Max forced Lewis to the wall and at the time it reminded me of Michael’s move.

What happened to Michael was tragic.

The interesting thing is both Michael and Max seem to be very different people outside the car.

Can't imagine Perez will last much longer with RB

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 29/10/2024 11:53

Me neither. I know it's more complicted than this, but it's a damning testimony that a RB driver might get the Driver's Championship but the team might only come 3rd in the Constructors. It does rather suggest Perez's performance is going to cost them the CC.

Right now they need to decide if they are more likely to get 2nd if they keep him or swap him.

Brazilianadventure · 29/10/2024 13:05

It’s also interesting that Liam got called to the headmasters office (CH) to be told in a VCARB you don’t hold up/fight an RB.

Bottom line is that Perez shouldn't be that far back to be in Liam's eye-line.

He's a nice chap but it must be curtains for him

Brazilianadventure · 29/10/2024 18:46

I agree, but it’s more the politics of RB effectively having 2 teams. You can argue the drivers are all RB drivers so RB get to tell them what they can and can’t do.

Red Bulls headache is that Verstappen would want a co-driver who would be content being a very clear second seat. Perez did a good job of that in 21 and 22 before his form dropped off. Lawson, Tsunoda are their obvious choices, but would either of them be happy to be a "Barichello" for Red Bull?

Bottas might, Magnusson might, but Magnusson looks fairly content at this being his last year in F1, (at least that's how he comes across in interviews). Bottas I think doesn't have the drive to perform anymore, although it's hard to tell in that dreadful Sauber.

Do they promote a driver from F2? Maybe try buy out Colapinto from Williams? After seeing what happened to Gasly and Albon at Red Bull would Colapinto want to?

If it was me, I would promote Lawson but I suspect Lawson might be a bit more fiery than Horner wants alongside Verstappen. I enjoyed Lawsons battle with Alonso in Austen and then Perez in Mexico, but I'm guessing Horner didn't!

Sulusu · 29/10/2024 20:26

Also me... I wonder if Vettel is bored of not being in F1 and fancies pootling around in a Red Bull next year. 😜

YouAreAllMySymmetry · 29/10/2024 21:20

Oh noooo! We've got plenty of interesting young drivers, I'm not desperate to see bored rich dudes coming back to amuse themselves out of retirement.

Brazilianadventure · 29/10/2024 22:13

@Sulusu well put. I agree Lawson is the logical choice.

I do think DR would have accepted the 2nd driver role but he clearly was struggling with something. It could be the current cars, or the tyres not suiting his driving style.

Vettel is a good option, but like others I think a young driver is what is needed.

The interesting thing is Merc, McLaren and even Ferrari are letting their drivers race. I am not convinced RB will whilst Max is in the team. Lewis and George showed clean racing against a team mate. Carlos and Charles at Monza etc.

Just a joke really I think Seb is pretty happy being retired. If he came back to F1 it would be nice for him to have a role as pundit or commentator.

@Brazilianadventure DR has struggled since his hand injury, maybe that accident knocked his confidence in pushing the car. I don't know what it is, but I hope he can retire contentedly now. I wish RB had handled his dismissal better though and he had had a proper send off.

CelesteCunningham · 30/10/2024 08:53

I saw a photo of Seb recently, he looks so weird with his teeny tiny (i.e. normal human sized) neck! He's definitely done.

Brazilianadventure · 30/10/2024 09:44

Apparently Seb is in the Amazon at the moment - instagram

He was in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago, he sure does get about!

I wonder if he is still talking to the FIA about his bio-fuel ideas, maybe that's why he is in Brazil this weekend.
