AD 2021 was not about Max and he should not have been blamed. It was RB, Jonathan Wheatley and CH plus Michael Massi and the Stewards not having the decency to apply the rules. Plus RB overspending.

Max has been unfairly treated. My view is had Max opened the steering at Silverstone and settled for 2nd and 18 points when he was 33 points ahead AD2021 would have been irrelevant.

Before you say I am being unfair about Silverstone ask yourself if the positions on track and in the championship were reversed would Lewis have opened the steering and settled for 2nd?

And yes, as a non Brit I do think Max gets a really hard time in the British media and on here as well as social media.

As a Ferrari and Leclerc fan it's so, so painfully obvious.

Same way as Leclerc is now being spoken about for the WDC fight and as if he's not talented at all compared to Norris. The British bias is horrendous.

Brazilianadventure · 22/10/2024 12:10

I don’t disagree about the media. I think they are awful in a range of situations, not just F1.

It’s why I like Nico Rosberg, Jenson and DC plus other former drivers as they tend to be straight about the issues. As I said I would liked Ant to have talked through the lap 1 incident.

Edited

Rosberg tailors his commentary to the channel he's on and every British commentator is insanely biased towards the British drivers (but funnily enough not George Russell, because he's gone toe to toe with Lewis this year). It's horrendous

Brazilianadventure · 22/10/2024 12:29

A big part of the issue, which is not just F1, is that conflict sells papers, clicks, subscriptions.

I often role my eyes at the fake conflicts generated by the media.

Each driver is different and there are some very good drivers of all nationalities on track. There are a few exceptional drivers and a few who are not in the top 20. You are also comparing drivers in different cars and at different points in their career.

I was purely asking a question about the two incidents and the stewards judgements. Not making a comment on drivers.

I think the media bias is why they're being conflated as being the same thing.

The lap 1 incident was just that. A lap 1 incident. Any other driver does that and it's ignored, but because it's Max it's being scrutinised.

Lap 51, if Max had gone off and gained an advantage everyone would be saying it should be a 10 second penalty.

Norris also avoided being penalised in the sprint race for his move on Leclerc. The media bias plays into these issues because people believe that the commentators know best, despite being heavily biased

As a Schumacher fan in the 90s it's practically subtle these days Grin, ITV were particularly awful.

Max seems to be characterised in a really negative way when actually he comes across really well to me - he's handled the press conference stuff perfectly by ensuring the media still get their quotes, and you hear nice things like him waiting in the paddock for Danny Ric to get back from the hospital when he broke his hand.

itwasnevermine · 22/10/2024 13:00

@CelesteCunningham Max is probably my second favourite driver, he comes across so well despite the troubles he faced in his childhood

CelesteCunningham · 22/10/2024 13:02

Yeah me too. I've no idea how he came out the other side as nice as he has.

mydogisthebest · 22/10/2024 13:07

Martin Brundle I don't think is biased towards British drivers. He is always singing the praises of Verstappen.

CelesteCunningham · 22/10/2024 13:08

Yeah Martin's a good 'un.

I think it comes from on high tbh rather than their own personal views. James Allen was perhaps the most biased commentator I've heard, but when you read his other stuff and learn his son's name is Enzo you figure that perhaps the commentary wasn't all his own views!

Martin's so funny 😂

It's very obvious sky are very heavily favoured towards Lewis. Next year will be interesting for sure

Tilda77 · 22/10/2024 14:03

I'm not a Max fan but only because he's the opposition. There's no doubt he's world class but it has been nice this season that there has been more of a competition. I don't blame Max for Lando getting a 5 second penalty. I blame his team for giving him bad advice and Lando for not being more sure of his own judgement and giving the place back straight away.

Brazilianadventure · 22/10/2024 15:48

Lewis has not always had the media support he enjoys now. He has suffered racism throughout his racing career, this is from the media, fans and within the paddocks.

Finally caught an update on the “Trophies” at Austin. Pirelli were providing them and at the last minute had to change them because there was a question about copyright, This is why Carlos and Max ended up with tyre trophies😂.

CelesteCunningham · 22/10/2024 15:57

Lewis has had a horrific time in the press internationally, and online even worse, but never IMO from the British broadcasters on the F1 coverage.

CelesteCunningham · 22/10/2024 15:58

Saw that about the trophies, so funny. Wonder what that's all cost pirelli 🤣

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 22/10/2024 22:49

Just noticed that M&S are selling Mclaren hoodies etc - sadly only for 6-16 year olds!

Ooh I reckon I could squeeze into one. But I don't think I'm really a papaya gal. Gimme Aston green any day.

Sulusu · 23/10/2024 00:23

I don't care who benefits from penalties, all I want is consistency from the stewards. That's the damn problem. Russell was given a 5 second penalty in the race. Seemed a bit harsh but probably fair. However both Ferraris used pretty much the same move in the sprint race and weren't penalised. Why?

Just be consistent for fooks sake.

Brazilianadventure · 23/10/2024 05:44

Exactly.

OP posts:
gingercat02 · 23/10/2024 07:26

Yep, it's all about consistency and the general lack of it.

Max is a bit of a brat, but lots of rich kids are, he has a bully for a father and works for a very toxic company. It's hardly surprising that he is how he is.

I hate they way they are all trained to complain on the radio about everything that might be a penalty for the opposition!

MercedesLeftWheelNut · 23/10/2024 09:44

Agree with the point about consistency. It's crucial for fans and teams to feel like it's a fair sport.

If even the stewards cannot understand the rules enough to apply them fairly, what hope has the average fan got?

Doing a secret Santa with a group of friends I've made through F1

The last I've got is a massive Lewis fan. I'm a huge Ferrari fan and we've been bantering all year about how bad it'll be for her 🤣

Any ideas for a "Team LH to Ferrari survival pack" I can give her? So far I've got a stress ball and a pack of tissues 🤣

Some Italian wine to drown the inevitable sorrows?

Magnetic fridge letters to keep track of strategies?

itwasnevermine · 23/10/2024 12:30

@CelesteCunningham was thinking some monster and some minis for when the races keep her up and when they inevitably go wrong 🤣
