A bit late to the party but I just watched the Netflix documentary on Schumacher, really enjoyed it but found it profoundly sad that this guy full of vitality and life has ended up the way that he has, poignant documentary.

@Rowgtfc72 I thought it would have been Perez

Rowgtfc72 · 02/08/2024 04:34

Haven't redbull announced they're keeping Perez for now? I was surprised at this.
Something is definitely amiss at redbull.

Brazilianadventure · 02/08/2024 06:58

Jonathan Wheatley leaving RB is big news. He was the one talking to Michael Massi in AD2021.

Another big hitter leaving Red Bull. He was touted for taking Horner's place before it all calmed down at Red Bull.
Also, Bruno Famin has been replaced by Oliver Oakes. He ran the F2 HiTech team and is meant to be a good hire. The podcasts i listen to have been speculating about the power Briatore now has in that team and whether they're gearing up to sell Alpine.
This is turning out to be a great season!

Bit harsh? That's an understatement.

He wasn't smug, he was happy!

Honestly as a Lewis fan and a Mercedes fan I have gone from being upset Lewis was moving to Ferrari to now being relieved. Relieved because I cannot wait for this sort of nonsense to shift to Ferrari instead. I don't think the Le Clerc fans and Tifosi will tolerate it much.

He was definitely smug. I'm not talking about immediately after, I mean later when he was being interviewed about his 'genius' holding off Lewis (in a car that we now know was underweight). I really want to like George but he's making it very difficult. Not as difficult as sulkboy Lando though.

milski · 06/08/2024 22:07

I've just come across this video from the BBC of Lewis and his Dad when Lewis was 12, showing him karting and with Ron Dennis saying he has promise. Great to watch knowing what he's achieved now.

Saw a few posts on Insta saying it looks pretty certain Newey is going to Aston. I really hope so, that's the outcome I want to see. Give Alonso a car that can really take the fight to the teams who are improving this season.

I can't imagine choosing to have any Stroll as my boss.

Brazilianadventure · 07/08/2024 08:26

I can see the attraction for Newey of AM with Alonso due to the factory location, working with Alonso, potentially being the first AM world champion etc.

However, it can take years to bring a team back to the front - see McLaren and Williams. Time is not something Newey and Alonso have on their side.

OP posts:
CelesteCunningham · 07/08/2024 08:52

I'll be gutted if Newey goes to AM, I want him at Ferrari. It would be lovely to see Alonso have another go though, two championships doesn't seem quite enough for him.

It seems that Daniel Ricciardo was told he'd be replacing Perez and then Red Bull changed their minds, possibly under pressure from Liberty. This is all from DH who gets his F1 gossip from the F1 sub Reddit. I've seen a few things on Twitter that seem to point that way too. Apparently Daniel's blurb on the Dutch GP app or website talks about him being Max's current teammate.

All hearsay but it has a ring of truth. I hope the Liberty bit isn't right and it was just about $$$. It would be dodgy as otherwise.

Hazeby · 07/08/2024 09:48

Jeremy Clarkson told a Dutch tv reporter at the British GP that he knew for a fact that Adrian Newey was house-hunting in Oxfordshire.

He said the same to Martin on the grid walk.

@CelesteCunningham the DR gossip is a shame if it’s true as Liberty should not be getting involved. I know Perez brings $$$$ but if they lose the constructors championship it’s a big deal.

Personally I am now thinking RB should give Yuki a go and then they can test him against max and at the same time compare Liam against DR in the VCarb. Sadly I think DR is out at the end of the season.

OP posts:
CelesteCunningham · 07/08/2024 11:49

Yes I think I'd do the same with their drivers @Brazilianadventure. I've always liked Checo but he doesn't deserve the seat any more. I wonder if he'll be dropped after Mexico. Haven't checked the calendar to see if that would be worth doing.

HappyLittleNarwhal · 07/08/2024 12:49

I think DR's day is probably done. But I can't stand Yuki, he so often comes across like a petulant child, imagine being the person to handle him and Max!

Brazilianadventure · 07/08/2024 11:42

He said the same to Martin on the grid walk.

Unless Clarkson either runs an estate agent in Italy or knows someone who does or owns a house in or around the Marinello area, he wouldn't have a clue where Adrian Newey is looking for a house outside of the Oxfordshire area. He could be house hunting in multiple locations...after all he is supposed to be retired so he could be planning to have a house on every continent (within reason) as F1 travels the globe.

Brazilianadventure · 07/08/2024 15:35

@LookItsMeAgain I said the same at the time.

that was my first thought!

HappyLittleNarwhal · 07/08/2024 17:53

I think Stroll will be well aware that Newey is worth it, and they've likely had many long conversations already about how the entire team will work together.

Hazeby · 08/08/2024 22:27

The employee’s appeal against the Horner ‘inappropriate behaviour’ decision has been rejected. Will that be the end of the matter?

Brazilianadventure · 08/08/2024 22:48

@Hazeby the next step is an Employment Tribunal.

OP posts:
Hazeby · 09/08/2024 06:23

Do we think it will happen? We don’t know anything about this lady and her personality but it would be a brave step.

goingdownfighting · 09/08/2024 15:23

In my experience of tribunals, she would need to find representation. Usually advocates only take on cases which are likely to have a reasonable chance of word winning, because they're not cheap if you lose. Unless her house insurance covers it, or someone does it pro bono, she will need a good case. Which she might have so who knows.

My guess is that RB will pay what it takes to settle.

On the other matter of Sergio, I wonder if RB are complying or sucking up to the F1 or FIA as they are going to need support later down the lane. It's all power and politics. RB would definitely hold it over the FIA if they were asked to keep Sergio on for financial gain.
