Well those last few laps were exciting, I never thought George would hold Lewis off... but he was so smug after the race I was actually quite pleased when he got DSQ.

Bit harsh perhaps but Jesus George...

Bit harsh? That's an understatement.

He wasn't smug, he was happy!

Honestly as a Lewis fan and a Mercedes fan I have gone from being upset Lewis was moving to Ferrari to now being relieved. Relieved because I cannot wait for this sort of nonsense to shift to Ferrari instead. I don't think the Le Clerc fans and Tifosi will tolerate it much.

WouldUSayImWorthy · 29/07/2024 15:41

Sainz to Williams; I think that's kinda sad. If I was Ferrari I'd be regretting keeping LeClerc over him to be honest.

Sulusu · 29/07/2024 15:56

Mixed feelings for me about Sainz to Williams.

On one hand I think Williams under Vowles has a better current trajectory than Sauber/Audi or Alpine have, the latter two seem to be having issues on the management side. Audi might well pour a lot of money into the team and develop them, but that's a few years away probably.

On the other hand I wanted Sainz to go to Mercedes for at least a year. A Russell/Sainz pairing would have been a pretty solid team, with two drivers who are good at thinking on their feet, especially about strategy and track conditions.

That leaves, one Sauber seat, one Alpine seat still? And perpaps a VCARB seat if Riccardo moves to Red Bull? Feel like I have missed one somewhere.

LookItsMeAgain · 29/07/2024 16:01

I wanted a straight swap of Sainz and Hamilton - each to each other's former team. I agree though @Sulusu that Vowels has done more in his short time at Williams than previous Team Managers have so perhaps it's not such a bad move after all. I mean Williams tends to be the stomping ground of drivers that end up in McLaren or Mercedes so this might be a sideways step with a longer goal for a seat in a few years time...watch this space!

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 29/07/2024 16:25

Hoping Newey is making his way to Williams now, maybe that was the clincher for Sainz 🙏🏻

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 29/07/2024 16:26

So looking like Antonelli to Mercedes !

Rowgtfc72 · 29/07/2024 16:57

Thinking Sainz to Williams is a good move. He'll be no.1 seat, and james vowles appears to have big plans.
Newey? Perhaps!

I would love that, even though I think it's unlikely. In his book he says he feels he has unfinished business with Williams.

CelesteCunningham · 29/07/2024 17:06

Lovely statement from Fred.

Hope it works out, for Williams and Sainz and Albon - what a driver line up for a team at that level.

As a Ferrari fan I'm still hoping they've nabbed Newey and I'll be cheering happily for once. Grin

ahh I didn't know that.. so I hope it's Ferrari then 😁

Just finished, brilliant race.

Can't stand Russell so decided him winning was just to spite me after a shit weekend so now I'm happy after DH handed me the verdict as he crossed the line. 😂

1.5kg is massive though, wonder how they got that wrong, very unusual.

What is it about George that you don’t like? I only ask as I don’t like him either but can’t put my finger on why! Am hoping your explanation might help me understand 😂

As a Williams fan, this is amazing news. I'd love to think James could poach Newey as well but that's just wishful thinking. I really hope this means that Sainz and Albon will both be fighting for points come 2026.

There is a large "can't quite put my finger on it" component alright! I think he has a very high opinion of himself (or perhaps hides that less well than others!).

But the main moment was a scene in Drive To Survive a few years ago about job losses in the rank and file at Williams. One of those moments where your opinion of someone is instantly fixed.

I will say in the interests of honesty that I'm Irish and have had a lifetime of very biased British coverage so that doesn't tend to endear the British drivers to me. But that's not as bad these days and I don't dislike any other driver on the grid to the extent that I dislike Russell.

witte · 29/07/2024 21:47

I don't mind George but DH says he's a tit. He can't explain why, just that he is.

GrouchyKiwi · 29/07/2024 22:03

Poor George. So many feel the same way and can't tell you why. DH and I agree; he is a tit. Grin

Brazilianadventure · 30/07/2024 07:46

I really hope James, Alex and Carlos can take Williams nearer to the front of the grid. It’s a great driver line up.

It'd be lovely to see wouldn't it.

Growing up I hated Williams and McLaren, teenage me would be very confused by my adult opinions. 😂 So nice to see Williams making progress.

Growing up I hated Williams and McLaren

Growing up they were the teams I rooted for 😂

Mostly these days I just like to see good, clean racing and will root for whoever delivers that - but, yes, it would be especially good to see Williams on the up again.

Oh for goodness sake 😁

I think he's just for slight 'effete posh English boy' vibes which grates on my Scottishness 🤣

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 30/07/2024 09:21

Same for me about George and don’t know why specifically!

I just haven’t warmed to him yet

I completely agree - I am an F1 fan first.

I'm a lifelong Williams fan, it's been a rough few decades! 😂

I'm delighted to have Albon and Sainz together. I did have a chuckle at a meme on Instagram about how they are team "No appendix" now!

Feel a bit bad for Logan Sargent though, his most recent races have shown an improvement, but it was too late. I'm guessing he will head to Indy car now

WouldUSayImWorthy · 30/07/2024 10:04

Logan's been dreadful. Shame for him but he really just isn't good enough.
