Sainz is probably waiting for the Merc seat or RB if behind the scenes it is a viable option. Sadly if he leaves it too much longer he may be facing a year out.

Spa is interesting - if only because the weather radar isn't 100% accurate due to the mountains blocking out what is happening in the villages nearby. The teams are sending some of their team out in cars and (if they drew the short straw) on bikes to report back what is happening 10 and 20 minutes away from the track.

Wonder who will manage to put their car on P1....watch this space.

Brazilianadventure · 28/07/2024 09:32

Bernie was certainly struggling in commentary as @LookItsMeAgain says the weather radar is not 100% accurate.

A sprinkling of rain for the race would be good.

Sitting here absolutely roasting in the sunshine of Spa after being soaked in torrential rain yesterday. Somehow don't think we're going to get a wet race but hopefully that will favour the Mclarens.

We had bronze tickets but got chosen to get an upgrade to silver today! This is the first race for the kids so it's certainly surpassing expectations!

RockaLock · 28/07/2024 13:49

Oh wow @Exhaustedpenguin - how lucky was that! Sounds like you are having a great weekend - hopefully the race will be a good one.

goingdownfighting · 28/07/2024 15:29

Brilliant unexpected result.

Max however extends his championship lead.

Yes, really good call there.

I think Max & Red Bull are not going to have it all their way for the rest of the season so it's going to be very interesting to see where we end up.

Hope you've had a great day Exhaustedpenguin!

Brazilianadventure · 28/07/2024 15:37

@Exhaustedpenguin you got to see a great race. Your user name is very apt as I’m exhausted after watching that.

I certainly think the constructors championship is going to be close.

What a brilliant race to be at @Exhaustedpenguin Well called George!

WouldUSayImWorthy · 28/07/2024 16:36

How did it play out?

I've been out all day and can't decide whether to sit out in this rare blazing sunshine or head indoors to watch it...

RockaLock · 28/07/2024 16:48

Definitely watch it!!!

WouldUSayImWorthy · 28/07/2024 16:58

On Lap 1 😁

Brazilianadventure · 28/07/2024 17:13

I don’t want to spoil the party but George’s car has been referred to the stewards for being underweight.

They are saying it’s fuel but I think it’s the tyres. George’s will have weighed less because they did so many laps. Plus because they don’t do a cool down lap at Spa he couldn’t pick up rubber like they do at other tracks.

Fingers crossed he doesn’t get disqualified

WouldUSayImWorthy · 28/07/2024 17:28

Just saw that on Insta - can tyres really lose that much in weight??

Would still be another Mercedes win but feel for George.

WouldUSayImWorthy · 28/07/2024 17:58

Ooh it's done. Ah well, congrats Lewis!

Rowgtfc72 · 28/07/2024 18:20

Just seen the news. Not a george fan but he must be wondering why he never has any luck.

Yeah - they're about 10kg each so it would be easy to lose 1.5kg off all of them, I think.

Perhaps the 'downside' of such a strategy?

Sulusu · 28/07/2024 18:29

Poor George. I'm feeling genuinely upset for him after what was probably the best drive of the year, but rules are rules.

I think Vettel had the same thing at Spa a few years ago, but that was from second or third.

Enjoy the summer break everyone!

GrouchyKiwi · 28/07/2024 18:55

That is a shame for George. I imagine Lewis isn't happy about gaining a win in those circumstances either.

Exhaustedpenguin · 28/07/2024 18:58

I'm gutted for George - he did such a great job of holding off the attack from Lewis but I'm still happy for a Mercedes win. It was a great race to watch live - especially as there were so many unknowns as they approached the last few laps. This constructors battle is really ramping up!

I've had a fantastic day- everyone has been in such a good mood (the sunshine helped!) We walked up to Eau Rouge along the track at the end, so the kids are now filthy from picking up discarded rubber. Definitely exhausted in all senses of the word now!

goingdownfighting · 28/07/2024 18:59

Oh no poor George. He absolutely smashed it.

In the other hand if that slight weight discrepancy could have given him an advantage then I guess it's fair, as it was a very close finish. If Lewis was 2 or 3 seconds behind then perhaps I'd feel that he was hard done by but it might have made a difference so fair's fair I guess.

Pretty harsh though. It was a fantastic drive, a real showcase of his talent and tenacity.

Brazilianadventure · 28/07/2024 19:13

Such a shame. As much as I wanted Lewis to win, George deserved it because he made the strategy call and then made it work. At any other race track George would have been able to pick up rubber and would probably have made the weight.

@Exhaustedpenguin sounds like you and the family had a lovely time.

burblish · 28/07/2024 19:34

Oh no, poor George Russell - after such a ballsy drive, too.

CelesteCunningham · 28/07/2024 22:06

Just finished, brilliant race.

Can't stand Russell so decided him winning was just to spite me after a shit weekend so now I'm happy after DH handed me the verdict as he crossed the line. 😂

1.5kg is massive though, wonder how they got that wrong, very unusual.
