Everton struggled the last few matches, today was a far better performance despite the result. It's just frustrating to watch the playing from the back style as the players don't look comfortable with it.

Have not seen the other matches, just the results.

What a turnaround from Arsenal.

I really thought that we were going to lose that one at half time.

I was surprised that Leicester took Rose off at half time. I wonder if that lost them the match.

talawalawoo · 12/11/2023 23:24

I missed the first half of Leicester v Arsenal, I heard it was less than Impressive but my goodness what a result from the 2nd half ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Confirmation Emma Hayes will be the new USWNT head coach.

“This is a huge honor to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history. The feelings and connection I have for this team and for this country run deep..."

She will be missed at Chelsea. I think she’s irreplaceable in a lot of ways and it’s an impossible task to follow her. She’s won everything with Chelsea except the Champions League, and she did win that with Arsenal. I really, really hope we can do the treble this year as a fitting send off for her. I like her approach to management: she looks at the whole person and has people looking at things like menstrual cycles. Takes no prisoners but is also a nurturing figure, I think.

nettie434 · 19/11/2023 21:01

Man Utd Women lost to Man City which was a shame as far as I was concerned. The positive was that over 40k people came to Old Trafford so it's good to see this demand to watch the women's game.

After yesterday I thought Chelsea would be cruising to another WSL title but today's results show City and Arsenal are certainly aiming to keep up with them.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 20/11/2023 09:12

I am hoping that we (Arsenal) will come second.

I can't see Chelsea not winning the league especially as they will want to do it for Emma Hayes.

DuncinToffee · 20/11/2023 09:19

Another diappointing match for Everton, really should have won.

And a big shock to see that Nicoline Sorensen has announced she is retiring at the end of this year. She will be a great miss

It's been quite a couple of weeks, hasn't it? I think Emma Hayes will be a great fit for the USWNT. Her outspoken support for women footballers and her extreme competitiveness will be appreciated over there even more than here. I remember one of her players saying that the culture at Chelsea was not just to win games, but to win every little battle on the pitch. To win everything, as she put it. It's a huge opportunity for the right coach and I hope they give her free rein to implement her ideas.
Funnily enough, I think the WSL will miss her more than Chelsea Women FC will - who will be the strong female voice asserting women's right to play and to be taken seriously as footballers, while also advocating for female-specific training, kit, employment rights? You need a platform of achievement to be heard by the wider football community, by the media, etc. All the managers of the big teams are men, and however supportive and respectful they are (and I believe they are), that sort of advocacy doesn't have the same impact from the mouth of a man. I hope other women, perhaps ex-players, perhaps the leaders of the new governing body for the WSL, will speak up loudly and consistently.

Mind you, having said all that, I sincerely hope Arsenal Women can spoil Emma Hayes' last season at Chelsea by taking the title! We will literally have to win every game, though, because I cannot see Chelsea stumbling - at least not at this stage.

Arsenal are extraordinary at the moment - there is so much room for improvement in the team's (and manager's) performances and yet, somehow, we are potent. The bigger squad has already made a huge difference to our results, I believe. First clean sheet in nine games was a big milestone.

Everton. I scratch my head over that club, because it's all there, and yet you can't quite seem to launch. In the case of other teams, you can see what some of the issues are, but with Everton, it just seems to be a case of everything being "not quite there". No offence intended, of course. Just my musing.

Man City looked frightening but I still don't think they have a plan B. Quite worrying for the rest of us to see Bunny Shaw getting back her goal-scoring mojo, though.

The WSL has become much more competitive, but I can't see anyone other than Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal or Man United winning it. Oh, and Chelsea. They are favourites, so I have to mention them twice! Some other teams will destroy the chances of one or more of those four, though.

Why is Sorensen retiring? Is it because of a bad injury?

Sorry for the late reply. I think the previous injury has definitely influneced her decision but it's mainly because she isn't enjoying playing football any more as much as she used to and she says it is time for a change.

I see. Thanks.

I should have watched the woman's game today, great win!

What on earth happened to Spurs? I didn't watch the game but they were doing so well in previous matches that I did watch.

I think it was the curse of the BBC write up:

How Tottenham turned their WSL fortunes around

Tottenham are fifth in the WSL after seven games, just one point outside the Champions League qualification places - and BBC Sport analyses their impressive start.

nettie434 · 26/11/2023 21:36

I saw that headline too MustTryHarderAndHarder. Not the best timing! City seem very determined this season and Bunny Shaw is right back on form, as BellaAmorosa said. I agree with her that Chelsea will want to win everything this season for Emma Hayes but City will want to put paid to their plans.

nettie434 · 01/12/2023 22:19

A game of two halves (to be very cliched) in England v The Netherlands. Was impressed that the Lionesses managed to get a win. Still don't understand how it's decided which teams will compete in the Olympics but it was a good win in the end.

Yes, we started off really well but just imploded after their first goal (thanks for that Palova!).

But what a come back and hopefully Scotland will let us win 10 nil on Tuesday.

I don't know what happened there. It was meant to express the hope that Belgium win by a large margin over the Netherlands 😳

Ha ha, I wondered if you could speak Flemish!

Do you think Scotland will let us win?

nettie434 · 02/12/2023 12:53

😀I should have tried to brazen it out! We'll have to hope Scotland don't go all out for a reaction win to show they are better than Nations League B. The irony is that if England can squeeze through, some of the Scottish players will hope they can get into the Team GB squad.

oviedo · 02/12/2023 21:51

Yes some of the Scottish players must be desperate to get into the GB Olympic team.
A real dilemma!
I think the four winners of the Group As play off with semis and final. The finalists will go to the Olympics but if France are there the third place winner will go through as well as France are the hosts.
Someone may correct me!

UsingChangeofName · 02/12/2023 23:16

I'm completely confused about this whole qualifying thing.

We compete as GB&NI in the Olympics, so how come we are competing as separate Nations, if this competition is to work out which teams qualify for the Olympics? Surely it ought to be a Team GB Team playing?

UsingChangeofName · 02/12/2023 23:17

That said, I timed things well last night. I got in when we were 2 - 0 down. I'm claiming full credit for the turn around Wink

oviedo · 03/12/2023 15:48

The Home Nations have never supported a GB team and rightly so - they would rather compete in the Nations League as individual counties.
