Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

Oh Sheffield Wednesday! I really hope they can get a few wins after Christmas and avoid relegation (although that may mean playing United again, which i don't love - so I'm going against a lifetime of footballing rivalry to say "i hope Sheffield United stay in the Premier League". Ouch. That hurt)

Tarkan · 24/12/2023 10:30

Very happy with the West Ham result especially after that appalling match against Liverpool before.

Arbroath were actually winning yesterday for most of the match. I didn't go down as we just had too much to do, but we ended up down to 10 men and at the last minute Dunfermline equalised. DH was standing outside our house and actually heard the chants of "off off off". We're probably around a mile inland from Gayfield.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 24/12/2023 13:24

Probably a fair result yesterday although we were lucky not to lose.

Can't believe we are top of the league as we haven't played that well, but then most other teams haven't either fortunately.

Tarkan · 24/12/2023 14:23

Found out today that the reason Jay Bird was sent off for Arbroath is that he was fighting with his teammate Jermaine Hylton. They both got a yellow card for it but Bird was already on a yellow. 🤦🏻‍♀️

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 24/12/2023 14:53

Managed to catch most of the first half yesterday. It looked a very open match. A point at Anfield is never a bad result. Noticeable that VAR tried for 2 minutes to disallow our goal, fortunately they couldn't.

TheSleepingGiant · 26/12/2023 15:58

Jesus wept that Gillingham game was a shambles, 2/3rds of the possession and spend it passing backwards! Don't think the giant is so much sleeping as in a fucking coma 😫

DuncinToffee · 28/12/2023 13:22

Man City turned up in the second half, not much we could do to stop them.

Good to see the ref not bowing to player's pressure Hmm He didn't even go to the screen to change his mind, ffs what was Onana supposed to do?

As for Dermot Gallagher, guess August was a long time ago, different era

I know. Can't believe that was a hand ball. The rules need to be changed.

Oblomov23 · 28/12/2023 20:56

Spurs 0-2 down at Brighton at HT. Good grief we were awful.

DuncinToffee · 28/12/2023 21:38

Nice to see VAR consistency with Kulusevski's shirt pulling Confused

Bad night for North London.

It just wasn't our night tonight.

Sure was, West Ham were very organized tonight.

Over at the Amex, (last 20 minutes aside) it was very much men v boys, happy for young Veliz though.

Tarkan · 28/12/2023 22:32

I wish I'd put a wee flutter on that game. It was saying we had a 9% chance of a win before kick off and I definitely wasn't expecting us to take that.

I did say to a friend that I don't know what got into the Arsenal strikers but while Areola pulled off some stunning saves there were even more misses. I was honestly expecting them to come back at take it for most of the match.

Very happy with the result of course. 😁

Tarkan · 28/12/2023 22:37

I wore one of my new t-shirts from my parents today so for now it's my lucky shirt. 😁

Adding a screenshot of the Arbroath kit that DH bought me too.

Oh FFS. We could have had 2 hours of stoppage time and we still wouldn't have scored.

You know West Ham are going to line up with 10 behind the ball, but we need to be quicker to get the ball in the box. Admittedly, it was pretty certain that the ball was out, but we know that VAR isn't going to give us anything this season. We need to have a bit of a plan B.

Brefugee · 29/12/2023 22:09

blimey, Sheffield Wednesday won. I was having kittens

TheSleepingGiant · 29/12/2023 22:36

Just home from watching a 1-0 win for Gills against 10 man Sutton. Shame we didn't win by more (our goal difference is shocking and we are the leagues lowest scorers) however it's been a while since we last saw 3 points so I'll take it. Lovely goal though, top bins Grin

Tarkan · 30/12/2023 17:08

Arbroath are one of the talking points of the day. We had so few available players we ran out of strikers so our sub goalie came on and played up front and scored a screamer of a goal. Grin

We were 2-0 down to Raith and between that and then a penalty we somehow got a point from that match. Amazing stuff.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 30/12/2023 17:27

Today game was intresting. Silva face at the end! Poor bloke 39 he needs a easy life. Hope Luton do somehow manage to stay up.

It was an absolute thunder bastard!

DuncinToffee · 30/12/2023 18:10

We had a stinker today, players looked tired and stretched and Dyche got his tactics all wrong. One to forget.

I will have a look for that goal Tarkan Football

I love the term thunder bastard haha. That would be a great username on here. Grin

My FB is full of local friends just in disbelief over it still. I've watched that video way too many times now and I'm still loving it. Almost wish I had gone to Fife now. Grin
