Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

I am probably not the best person to ask at the moment but assuming there is no culture of violence, hooliganism within the club then no, I don't think the fans, players and staff should be punished by being kicked out.

Yes I agree. Also, he should pay the fine, not the club.

And what about the other people who carried on kicking the referee once he was on the floor?

DuncinToffee · 15/12/2023 15:15

According to the BBC, two others were formally arrested for "injuring a public official".

No mention of who they were

Thanks.

I actually find that more unbelievable than the original punch. To kick someone when they are down?

Brefugee · 15/12/2023 15:22

That's why i think that there should be more of a punishment for the club. The stewards, players, fans - anyone, should have stepped in.
But i do agree that fines should be paid by the director personally

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 15/12/2023 16:42

It probably depends on who the kickers were. If they're part of the club, then punishments should be involved. I would suggest demotion is too strong for a single casem punishing those who had nothing to do with it, and were probably aghast as well.

Fines, bans, and possibly a points deduction if other members of the club were involved.

Brefugee · 16/12/2023 12:10

Itvs not just a single case.
It is an attack on a referee. This really needs the strongest punishment - pour encourager les autres

burblish · 16/12/2023 18:07

Oh gosh, Tom Lockyer - thank goodness he is stable. I fear this could be the end of his football career; he fought so hard to come back after his first attack and heart surgery, but surely it will now be too risky for him?

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 16/12/2023 18:14

Just heard about this on Talk Shite. Poor chap. Glad he's alive and apparently doing OK.

I don't think he should be risking his life any more for this game.

Although I'm reminded of that Bill Shankley quote;

"Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that."

DuncinToffee · 16/12/2023 19:37

The commentator on our match said Luton Town has confirmed that Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher.

I didn't know it had happened before, makes it even more worrying.

Anyway, another win, another clean sheet

jingle bells, jingle bells, oh what fun it is when Everton win away 🎶

That is so funny.

Brefugee · 17/12/2023 08:13

Saw that on Twitter - it is hilarious.

Agree that Lockyear is probably going to have to end his career.

Sheffield Wednesday Won. So happy here

nettie434 · 17/12/2023 10:07

The first time (in the play offs), Lockyer had atrial fibrillation (fast and irregular heartbeat) but I don't think he lost consciousness. He was given the all clear to play again but I agree that after this, he's unlikely to come back to play again anytime soon.

I always remember how impressive Fabrice Muamba was after his cardiac arrest. He'd been studying accountancy or something like that in case of injury but since then he's studied sports journalism and has a coaching licence.

DuncinToffee · 17/12/2023 11:32

Ian Wright is stepping back from MotD at the end of the season

Was looking forward to watching the Arsenal game today, I've just noticed it's not on the telly. WFT?

Yes, all the 2pm Sun matches will be on tv from 2025 I think, but at the moment they are not.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 17/12/2023 16:27

Well, that should have been easier. We had plenty of chances and pretty much dominated Brighton and Hove Actually, but if you don't put the game away, you can guarantee that they'll come at you in the last 10 minutes.

I guess I've got to cheer on United now. Not something I've done very often!

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 17/12/2023 18:32

Great win for Newcastle yesterday but two more injuries to add to the ever growing list, well 3, if you count Isak not even making it to the bench. Lewis Miley is some crazy talent.

The sky over St James’ was beautiful at half time.

😀Man Utd's recent record at Anfield has been terrible. The draw was a bit of a surprise.

Tarkan · 17/12/2023 21:40

I was at DD's music school's winter concert and secretly watching the West Ham game today. It was so hard to stay quiet when we scored while other people's kids were singing or playing instruments. BlushGrin A very good day for me as I also won a nice soap and a voucher for a hot stone massage in the raffle and I had only bought 3 tickets for it. Grin

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 17/12/2023 22:42

Bugger. I've just realised we've got a meal booked with the family next Saturday when the Liverpool Arsenal game is on!

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 17/12/2023 22:42

And the pub doesn't have a telly...
