Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

Oh dear Eddie, a hard watch for you

Half expected it, said upthread it could be a bloodbath.

Dubravka just aint it.

Oblomov23 · 10/12/2023 18:17

Why Romero, why do that, so silly. He infuriates me.

Wouldn’t change anything but he should have been off for sure.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 10/12/2023 18:20

Consolation if nothing else.

Oblomov23 · 10/12/2023 18:25

Finally a win, thank goodness.

AndNobbyDancing · 10/12/2023 18:27

Agree Eddie Romero should be off.

I don't know what happens to you either, unfortunately you have made Spurs seem good. (Kids spurs fans, I'm allowed to say that)

Saints got a draw against The Cheats. They are and will always be my team but am enjoying watching the Cherries now Saints are in the Championship. As a kid I remember fundraising for the Dell and being taken by my uncle when the opposition brought more supporters.

Yes, I really don't think that he should be allowed to play at all. He is just a thug and the referee does nothing.

I heard the Aston Villa song based on Hi Ho Silver Lining for the first time yesterday.

Quite a few clubs have adapted that song since it was released, including Wolves, QPR and Sheffield Wednesday. It's got that singalong quality hasn't it?

I read an Article in The Athletic suggesting that even You'll Never Walk Alone has been used by clubs other than Liverpool, which surprised me.

Good result for Everton. They deserve it after the 10 point fine.

Hi Ho Silver Lining is such a good sing-along song. Last time i was at Hillsbrough (many many years ago) it was all "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life".

As for YNWA Dortmund and Mainz over here sing it pre-match. At Mainz when i was there or an away match it was absolutely stunning, really brought a lump to my throat.

What always amazes me is that Everton and Watford use the Z-Cars theme. What's that about.

TheSleepingGiant · 10/12/2023 19:09

Well we needed that, big 3 points after the shocking run we've been on. Ange set the team up well and it was a much better performance. Happy for Richy, was hoping he'd get the hat-trick. Agree with comments about Romero, he does need to grow up quickly or be benched. Surprised at no yellow for Almiron's play acting first half though.
Newcastle will be back, it's an impressive squad when fit and there's still a way to go.

Nice to see Everton back out the bottom so quickly. Saw the Fulham game earlier, they were outstanding and scoring for fun now.

DuncinToffee · 10/12/2023 19:23

I have read that Z-cars was first played as a tribute to one of the actors of the show who was from Liverpool and I assume an Everton fan and it stuck.

Not sure why Watford use it. Maybe they just liked it?

Watford probably stole it..adds to them being cheats

*from a most definitely non salty Saints fan.

burblish · 11/12/2023 15:38

I was just reading on the Beeb about Everton’s awesome response to opposition fans’ “poverty chanting” at Goodison: they display the message “fans supporting foodbanks” on the big screens. Poverty shaming is utterly disgusting.

nettie434 · 11/12/2023 15:55

One of the things I remember about when football matches restarted during Covid, was that Evertob put up a thank you to Marcus Rashford screen when Man Utd went to Goodison. It felt like they were emphasising the message that nobody should be short of food.

The other area where Everton was in the vanguard was support for members with dementia. One of the supporters had early onset dementia and the club completely listened to his ideas about how people with dementia could continue to be active supporters.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 11/12/2023 19:01

I actively told young dickheads on Thursday night to shut the Fuck up when they started up next to me. Sadly a bigger section of supporters had already joined in but thankfully it didn’t last long or gain much traction. It’s utterly stupid Newcastle fans singing it, as if we don’t have just as much poverty. Brainless idiots.

oviedo · 13/12/2023 20:32

Good start by Newcastle. Hoping so much that they can win and PSG lose/draw

oviedo · 13/12/2023 20:34

Yessss! Fantastic goal!

burblish · 13/12/2023 21:11

And now Dortmund have scored - hope it stays this way and the Toon go through!

Tarkan · 13/12/2023 22:00

Arbroath now bottom of the league and another loss today. I was at panto again so couldn't go to the match, was 1-1 from half an hour in, then Raith scored the winner in the 95th minute. Sad

oviedo · 13/12/2023 22:00

Oh no.. it's all gone horribly wrong...

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 13/12/2023 23:53

Well that was a rollercoaster of emotions which ultimately ended in heartbreak. We’ll be back 🖤🤍

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 14/12/2023 00:30

Gabriel Jesus wept! Have you seen the new format for the Champion's League next season? What a jeffing palava...

Brefugee · 14/12/2023 07:06

I'm now boycotting the men's world cup and all interest in the CL is now gone gor me too.

Sheffield Wednesday lost again. But not now bottom of the league so I'll keep hoping.

DuncinToffee · 14/12/2023 08:49

That format is ridiculous.

OP posts:
MustTryHarderAndHarder · 15/12/2023 10:25

I don't think it is too bad. I am not happy about having to play extra matches as it will just benefit the teams rich enough to have deep squads, but all UEFA care about is money so that is hardly surprising.

But the group stages were getting boring as it was obvious that the likes of Man City and Bayern would top their groups.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 15/12/2023 10:30

Also, I think I read that because England have done so well in the Europa league, then we are more likely to get one of the extra places in the new format. Let's hope.

Brefugee · 15/12/2023 12:54

can we talk about the Turkish debacle? Lifelong ban for the director who punched the ref is fine for me. But the penalty for the club isn't harsh enough IMO. They need to be kicked right out of the league and start back in the bottom tier of Turkish football
