Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

Bristol Rovers have sacked Joey Barton. The BBC comments are hilarious!

TheSleepingGiant · 26/10/2023 21:38

Nothing funny about the insults he threw Steve Evans' way after their draw with Stevenage though, fat shaming him. The bloke gives me the absolute rage and I hope we never see him in football again. Rant over.

A Christmas Eve game is the latest triumph for TV over supporters.

Wolves v Chelsea scheduled for Christmas Eve

The Christmas Eve thing is outrageous. How do Chelsea supporters get home?
If i were a Wolves Season Ticket holder i'd be sending them an invoice for that match that it will be difficult to get to.

But this is what you get when you let TV set the schedules. We're not that far here in Germany, but if it comes there will be Big Trouble.

nettie434 · 27/10/2023 14:01

It's not just the supporters. What about the police, ground and security staff etc who are now going to have to work on Christmas Eve? Why did the PL agree to this?

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 27/10/2023 14:06

It's ridiculous. Public transport is going to be a mess. If it was a local derby then there might, just, be a case for it, but with that distance it's a joke.

Oblomov23 · 27/10/2023 22:05

Sat in Portugal sports bar watching Spurs beat Crystal Palace. Was nice to see Bentancur back.

burblish · 28/10/2023 17:53

Poor Sheffield Utd - they are getting absolutely pummelled and the season is yet young. They’re just not equipped to compete at this level.

Brentford played a blinder today - tactically perfect and defensively sound. Thomas Frank is one of those very likeable and quietly effective managers.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 28/10/2023 18:25

So, who triple-captained Eddie this week?

TheSleepingGiant · 28/10/2023 19:12

Bit nervy at the end of the Palace Spurs game, nice saves from Vic and cute assist from Johnson. Also nice to see Bentacur back and hear the warm reception from the fans.

Sadly no back to back wins for Gills. The Manager situation is obviously not helping. Scott Lindsay now current favourite, will need to be paid off though as still under contract at Crawley.

Brefugee · 28/10/2023 20:14

Gladbach finally won at home - although there were some scary moments.
And the chap who sits behind me tapped me on the shoulder and gave me a thumbs up when Kane's 3rd goal went in (he used to think we flew over from England for every match)

If you get a chance to see Bayern's 5th goal (Kane's 2nd) have a look. From inside the Bayern half, right over the keeper's head. Phenomenal. (he is still getting flack despite scoring something like 12 goals in 9 matches)

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 28/10/2023 20:34

Kane’s goal was absolutely insane!

Fair draw for Newcastle away from home at Wolves today. Lucky penalty but I’ll take it. No new injuries picked up thankfully, our squad is painfully thin right now.

Xhakalaka · 28/10/2023 23:33

Great result today for Arsenal and need the goal difference. So good to also see Brentford win. They are my nearest team and can hear when they score at home matches in my garden. I often see Thomas Frank on a Sunday morning having and a stroll when DH and I go walking along the river at Richmond. DH in Brighton tomorrow to watch his team Fulham.

burblish · 29/10/2023 10:16

I was horrified to read this morning of the hell Luis Diaz is going through (reports from Colombia that his parents have been kidnapped - apparently his mother has been rescued but they still have his father). Press are saying it’s “unclear if he will be available for selection” against Forest this afternoon - well, no shit Sherlock! As if football matters compares to this!

DuncinToffee · 29/10/2023 10:50

That is absolutely horrifying.

Yes, it was nice to have a relaxing end to a game for once, can't remember the last time we had one.

Horrific and very worrying for all concerned. Hope the Colombian authorities are able to find him safe.

Not a great match but a win and a 50th PL goal for DCL and magical healing powers from JP Grin

Anyone watching the Ballon d’Or ceremony? The ceremony/telecast itself is kind of…awkward? Cringey? Maybe I’m being harsh. Anyway, Mary Earps has come fifth in the women’s rankings, which is fantastic. No surprise at all that Bellingham won the Kopa award (young player), Emi Martinez got the Yachine trophy (for best GK - even though Bounnou actually ranked higher than him in the Ballon d’Or rankings, so not sure how that works), and Haaland won the Gerd Muller award for most goals. I reckon Messi and Bonmati will win the big ones - let’s see!

burblish · 30/10/2023 21:09

Yep, Bonmati got it - well deserved! (As an aside, the French spelling of Yachine for Yashin always throws me - dunno why! Sorry, pointless observation there!)

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2023 21:13

Not watching but getting updates. Bonmati defenitely deserved that!

100% - he is an outstanding player. (You’re really not missing anything by not watching the actual ceremony, btw - it’s pretty poor as far as awards shows go.)

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2023 21:29

It's very predictable as well, no suspense

Yep! Exhibit A - Messi won it again (basically for winning the World Cup, not for club football achievements). At least they didn’t nominate Cristiano Ronaldo this year, I suppose!
