Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

I have seen quite a few remarks that the women seemed very much an after thought and that they were blanked by the performer, did you get that impression as well?

(It's international week as well so many women couldn't attend)

Tim Stillman on Twitter put it better than I could;

Nothing says ‘celebrate the achievement of female athletes’ like inviting a male athlete who advocated against equal pay to talk about himself and the completely different sport he plays.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 30/10/2023 23:28

I hope Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland don’t go weird like CR7 and Messi. They’re very odd people whereas JB and Erling seem like decent down to earth sorts.

I’d go as far to say as Messi gives me the creeps.

burblish · 31/10/2023 00:03

@DuncinToffee It certainly doesn’t help that there are a slew of other individual awards for men (young player, GK, goal scorer, Socrates award for humanitarian work) and no equivalent for women. But most fundamentally, how could they hold the awards ceremony on a date when most of the female contenders were going to be on international duty? I also don’t understand why the main presenters were Didier Drogba and a female journalist rather than an equivalent female footballer.

Oh great, so the 2034 World Cup is going to be in Saudi Arabia.

I guess that will be another winter effort then...

Brefugee · 31/10/2023 14:44

i don't mind so much if it's in winter, but i do mind that it is going to countries with no tradition or history of football. Which is how i managed to reconcile watching it in Russia but not in Qatar. So for me the World Cup (Men's) is pretty much a done deal. I will no longer be watching or generally taking part in any events.

I'll stick with the women's only as long as they don't pull this type of stunt with that one. (can hardly wait for it to be held in Saudi Arabia)

Brefugee · 31/10/2023 16:18

And the Wednesday Chairman goes from bad to worse. After telling the fans that he won't invest another penny in the club (that he is running into the ground) he has now asked us to put our hands in our pockets and chip in to pay off a 2 million quid tax bill.

Frankly? I want the club to die now. And the fans to take it over, at the bottom level of English football if necessary. I would invest in that.

Sadly no surprise there

Gillingham have today appointed a new Manager, Stephen Clemence, son of the late great Ray. His first Manager role so lets see. Hopefully he's what the club needs Smile

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 01/11/2023 21:33

Well that was a bit shit. Yes, the first goal shouldn't have stood , but for all our dominance in the first half we didn't look much like scoring. They obviously wanted it more than us, and with Jesus injured we don't have any alternatives. I said it was a mistake to sell Balogun.

Hopefully this shows that Ødegaard is back to fitness and ready to shine again.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 02/11/2023 00:12

What a night for NUFC reserves. Ten Haag surely won’t have a job for much longer.

It’s a blow losing Matty Targett though. We’ll not be able to name a full bench soon… Bruno G was also grimacing in pain and limping as he made his way to the dressing room. We really really really can’t afford to lose him.

Bring on Arsenal at the weekend!

Brefugee · 02/11/2023 07:15

2nd round of the German cup has been played (all the teams are in it from the start). Gladbach won and are in the last 16. Bayern were knocked out by a team from the 3rd division which means all of Germany except Bayern fans are celebrating that.

DuncinToffee · 02/11/2023 08:58

3-0 win and Fulham at home in the next round, am happy with that.

Great tribute to Bill Kenwright before kick-off.

Yes, no idea why we let Balogun go. I assume Arteta didn't like him as he was quite outspoken.

Did you see Willock's goal for Newcastle? He has grown in to a man and we let him go too.

DuncinToffee · 02/11/2023 09:12

It's not Ten Hag's fault, it's that their shirts and socks are too tight Wink

Willocks goal was fantastic, we’ve missed him so much since he did his hamstring in April. This was his first start since then and he showed exactly what he can do. He seems a really nice boy too.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 02/11/2023 10:41

(And he does a mean knee slide!)

Yes, he was so upset to leave Arsenal and was unhappy to begin with at NewCastle but it is the best thing that could have happened to him.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 02/11/2023 11:04

It took him a long time to settle and of course the previous manager did nothing to help him but he’s spoke so warmly of Eddie Howe and how he’s created a family within the team which has helped him feel at home.

Ugh I just love the whole lot of them. I don’t think we’ll win on Saturday. Our injury list is just too long. But then I didn’t think we’d win last night either so I guess we’ll just wait and see.

I really don't like Wilson, Joelinton and Burn. They come over as nasty and aggressive.

I think you will win on Saturday because you will be aggressive and we can't cope with that.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 02/11/2023 14:44

Dan Burn is like a 6ft7 teddy bear. Don’t see the aggression thing outside of the desire to get the ball on the pitch. Although if you’ve ever been to Blyth you’d know he could handle himself being brought up there 😂

Likewise Joelinton and Wilson, on the pitch yep, will get stuck in there and have the capacity to be a bit lairy but I’m surprised they come across as unlikeable. I’d categorise them all as strong rather than technical players. Interesting how they’re perceived by others.

I hope we win but I’ll be walking up to the ground with some healthy skepticism and celebrating like a maniac if we pull it off. Then heading to Dortmund on the Sunday 🙌🏻

Yes, my husband's mum was from Newcastle so it was always his second team. But he does not like the way they play at all now and so won't watch them.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 02/11/2023 20:37

So it seems that Boris was heavily involved in Newcastle's deal with the Saudis...

A family member of mine set up Joe Willock’s parents claim to fame. Apparently he is a great lad. Shame he had to leave Arsenal….

Aggghhh not feeling too positive about Saturday. Trippier is playing well and we aren’t on top top form.

I am wondering how long Ten Hag will keep his job for. Hopefully forever.
