Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

I know what you mean @burblish. I totally understand. I even said to DH that I felt a bit sorry for Sheff, we’ve been that team getting beaten every week, getting relegated and humiliated, it’s crap. I like to see the promoted teams making a decent fist of it but it seems like none of them with the possible exception of Burnley have the necessary quality this season. But having said that. If someone guaranteed we’ll batter them next weekend as well I’d take it.

Oblomov23 · 24/09/2023 23:38

I stayed up to watch MOTD. He said there were 5 games. But none of the games were Arsenal v Spurs. I don't understand.

DuncinToffee · 24/09/2023 23:44

It was the second match they showed, after the Newcastle game. Did you watch yesterday's show instead?

OP posts:
Oblomov23 · 24/09/2023 23:45

Many not shown.
Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur at 2.00pm.Newcastle United travel to Sheffield United from 4.30pm. Brighton host Bournemouth.
Aston Villa travel to Chelsea.and Liverpool take on West Ham United at 2.00pm.

Oblomov23 · 24/09/2023 23:46

I thought I was matching MOTD now!

DuncinToffee · 24/09/2023 23:50

It sounds like you are watching yesterday's show, check that it is MotD2 that is on.

I was watching it at 22.30 and those matches were definitely being shown

Agree @burbburblish (otoh as a Wednesday Fan, I can t avoid a wry smile) it's all a bit rubbish, tbh.

Wednesday going right back down, so at least if the worst happens to Utd at least we won't be -losing to- playing them

Oblomov23 · 25/09/2023 18:44

@DuncinToffee Thank you, apologies, clearly I was watching the wrong one last night! I kept searching but couldn't find it. Dh found it instantly and we are watching it now!

DuncinToffee · 28/09/2023 08:29

Grin a nice win win over Aston Villa and Burnley at home next in the cup.

Our mega win over Man City is rewarded by feckin Man Utd at Old Trafford. Give us a break man 😂

Yes bad luck.

Funny how the lower teams seem to be drawing each other. Good for them.

West Ham will be tough for us.

Tarkan · 29/09/2023 09:10

We barely seemed to scrape it against Leicester so we'll see how that next round goes.

Rangers into the league cup semis too. As are DH's Hibs. With how the draws have gone, we have the chance of being against each other in the final which would be fab.

And I'm back to Gayfield tomorrow. Arbroath have had a few good results and we're now sitting 3rd in the league. Tomorrow we play Caley Thistle who are sitting bottom! They've just had a change of management though, I'll be sitting a few rows behind Duncan Ferguson tomorrow afternoon.

Tarkan · 29/09/2023 09:42

Lincoln not Leicester. 🤦🏻‍♀️ That's what I get for posting before coffee. 🤣 Too many L teams for me to think about in the morning.

Oblomov23 · 30/09/2023 13:26

We are off to see spurs v Liverpool. So excited. Can't wait. This will be our third match in the last few weeks, because that's what we could get hold of, so possibly our last ticket this season. Sad

Great day today.

Arsenal win, Man City lose and Luton win (unfortunately at the expense of Everton).

Ha love Big Dunc? Are you happy with his appointment?!

Brefugee · 30/09/2023 20:16

Gladbach finally won today (but it was "only" Bochum). Sheffield Wednesday, i fear, are going to vanish from footballing history.

burblish · 30/09/2023 20:21

So PGMOL have admitted what was obvious to the human eye: Diaz was not offside for his goal. Don’t even talk to me about sending off Curtis Jones and booking every Liverpool player who went within 10yds of a Spurs player. I’m genuinely not one of those fans who believe her team are angels always in the right (eg I don’t think Jota’s first yellow should have been a booking, but it was his own subsequent stupidity that got him sent off), but I have rarely watched a match where I have felt so aggrieved at the officiating. Edited to add: even DS, a Spurs fan, agreed with me!

Oblomov23 · 30/09/2023 20:26

Liverpool didn't actually play very well. We weren't great either.

burblish · 30/09/2023 20:33

@Oblomov23 I have to disagree with you there - for Liverpool to come back from 10 men and a goal down, and then 9 men, and hold Spurs to a draw until an own goal in the final seconds of the match - I thought they did so, so well. I was so impressed by the Liverpool players and they thoroughly deserved the point.

TheSleepingGiant · 30/09/2023 20:48

Some very unexpected scores in the PL this afternoon.

I haven't seen the Spurs game however reading the Spurs Facebook page and many of our fans have said the ref was our 12th man today. Will catch up later.

Talking of bad officiating, the ref at the Gillingham Mansfield match was appalling. Gets his yellow card out to book a Gills player, Mansfield take a free kick (from the wrong spot and with the ball still moving), score and goal stands? Surely if your booking a player play stops as the ref can't see what the players are doing? Mansfield are a decent side and i'd have been happy with a point before kick off but feels like a loss now.
