Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

Watched the majority of Spurs v Liverpool. On this occasion I think Klopp will be justified in his fume. Not to take anything away from Spurs but I think it’s fair to say Liverpool probably should have got something out of that match.

Another win and a clean sheet for us but our injury worries are stacking up and our star boy AG10 is suspended against West Ham leaving us dangerously exposed on the left with Harvey Barnes out until Christmas.

First home UCL game on Wednesday. Can’t wait.

Tarkan · 30/09/2023 21:31

The pie was good. It always is if you get a "steak and black" at Gayfield. 😁 The result not so good. Some, erm, "interesting" decisions by the ref team. My friend was behind an assistant ref and literally heard him sigh when Caley didn't score a goal they went for. 🙈 Dunc likes a naughty word though which isn't so good when my seat is in the family stand area so we all tried to tell him off for it (never mind the fact the kids in the crowd usually swear the most out of anyone. 🙈🤣). He isn't the worst away manager we've been behind at least.

Not a good result for Rangers either. I kept very quiet when the half time scores were being announced as I suddenly found myself surrounded by Aberdeen fans. 🙈

At least West Ham won for me today. 1/3 is something.

I'm now watching the sport with odd shaped balls 😁 and going well for Scotland there. My Romanian rescue dog is not happy though.

Still tight at the top of the Mumsnet FC FPL league table although I’m clinging on for now!

Just a quick check in to say Come on You Hatters! I cannot wait for Match of the Day tonight - really hope Crooks and Shearer are on

burblish · 30/09/2023 22:08

@EddieHowesShithousingMags I love all the Mumsnet FC FPL team names - excellent work!

Tarkan · 30/09/2023 23:39

FFS that's my DH just gone above me in the MN league. I keep forgetting to check the actual standings too so I'm surprised I've been so high. 🤣

Tarkan · 30/09/2023 23:40

I did spend a few points on transfers this week too because my usual fantasy football team curse kicked in and I had too many injuries to wait. 🙈

AndNobbyDancing · 30/09/2023 23:46

Had a dreadful week FPL, would be 7th in your league, but only got 24 points this week.

At the Bournemouth game today, thats 90mins I won't get back- but Saints won for a change.

Kids pleased with the Spurs, Palace and Luton results.

What is the Play Safe badge?

Managers at risk: Eric TH, Dyche, Iraola and Poch if Mon goes badly imo.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 01/10/2023 00:01

You’re welcome to join the league @AndNobbyDancing

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 01/10/2023 01:19

Gordon Bennett! The refereeing in the Liverpool Sp*rs game was worthy of the refereeing in an Arsenal match!

DuncinToffee · 01/10/2023 12:00

Liverpool are now experiencing what other teams have playing against them Wink

I've just signed up, let 10 year old DS pick the team 😬

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 01/10/2023 13:06

Fab!

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 01/10/2023 14:13

I love that the players gave Kai Havertz the penalty yesterday, hopefully it'll get him going now.

And I love the somewhat tongue-in-cheek song that the fans came up with;

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 01/10/2023 14:59

Haha I did laugh at that chant.

I love a good chant. The City fans made me laugh last week at SJP when there was a bit of a lull from the home fans and they started up with ‘is this the Etihad?’ 🤣

burblish · 01/10/2023 16:10

Here’s something I find really heartwarming: in response to the horrible behaviour of those two Sheffield Wednesday “fans” who mocked Bradley Lowery, it’s being reported that loads of Sheff Wed supporters (esp the Women’s Supporters’ Group) have been donating to the charity foundation that was set up in Bradley’s name after he died. ❤

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 01/10/2023 17:29

I had heard about the chant but hadn't seen the video. Love the little boy on his dad's shoulders.

Oblomov23 · 02/10/2023 21:33

Liverpool have asked for the match to be replayed. I doubt that will happen.

DuncinToffee · 02/10/2023 21:40

Can you imagine the FA's inbox when they do that Grin

OP posts:
AndNobbyDancing · 02/10/2023 22:37

Love the SWS group raising 15K and counting for the Bradley Lowry Foundation, and seeing Sunderland fans wishing them a better season. Shows what real team football is about.

Hope the insert appropriate word get the book thrown at them.

I can see why Liverpool think it should be a replay. I think Spurs should let one in on the return fixture- that would be sporting.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 02/10/2023 23:56

No way they're going to get a replay. There are too many games already gone with equally bad mistakes affecting the results. And we haven't got enough space in the season for all the replays that would be necessary...

RedSuedePump · 03/10/2023 08:01

They haven’t asked for the game to be replayed

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 03/10/2023 09:13

I can understand the frustrations of the Liverpool fans about the obvious onside decision and we (Arsenal) have had similar mistakes made, but people forget that it was much worse without VAR when you had to rely on a split second decision by a linesman whose eyes had to be in 2 places at once.

Brefugee · 03/10/2023 09:22

I don't think it's so much the mistake for me - it is the absolute breakdown in what VAR is supposed to be/do.

According to what i read in The Times, the VAR refs had been in Saudi Arabia a few days before, and that may or may not be a factor in them not understanding what the ref was asking. So as i understand it: when the ref asked them if they agreed that it was a goal, they thought he was asking if he was asking if it was offside and said "no" so he heard "no goal" and that was that.

I've been watching the Rugby world cup and what comes out of that is the constant exchange of info between the VAR and the on-pitch refs.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 03/10/2023 10:05

@Brefugee

Well, whether or not they had been abroad, if that is what happened then it is a systemic error.

They need to change their systems so that they all ask the same question so that there is no ambiguity.

At least it wasn't deliberate like when Spurs' goal should have been disallowed when Romero pulled Cucurella's hair.
