Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

Not bad group draws in Europa for West Ham and Rangers. Brighton have a stinker of a group there though.

It may be the group of death but the Brighton fans I know are quite happy with the draw - bigger clubs, bigger ticket allocation - and they are dripping in belief right now. DH has had a season ticket for decades and also does most away games and is top tier on loyalty points so we - by which I mean I - had a tense hour co-ordinating flights, Eurostar and hotels when the fixtures finally came out. My reward for being Miss Tui is a whistle stop trip to Athens. I will be watching the match from the safety of the hotel room. They're all terrified they're going to get stabbed in Marseille, bless them.

First match tomorrow night and he's like a kid on Christmas Eve!

But the club's story from rock bottom to this is incredible and he and his mates can't believe where they are now.

I was a die hard Winbledon fan (hardly go now 😳), I am loving it for him. UTA!

Just seen this on twitter;

Football Tweet @Football__Tweet Martin Ødegaard: "I’ve always had this weird connection to Arsenal. It started long before I signed. I don’t even really know how to explain it, except with one little story.

I’ve never been that much into video games. I am of that generation that always played outside, but the one exception was FIFA. I mostly played Career Mode. You know, where you get to be the manager?

The club I always chose to manage was Arsenal. They were my FIFA team.

Growing up in Norway, I watched a lot of Premier League and I just had this good feeling about Arsenal. I’d seen clips of Thierry Henry and the Invincibles. I knew the club had a history of developing playmakers like Fabregas, Nasri, Özil — really smart, technical players, who were good on the ball and played the difficult passes. My kind of players.

As I got older, around the 2015 edition, I started actually appearing in FIFA. I didn’t look much like me at first. I think I was like a 67 overall, but I was actually in the game and it was a big deal. So, naturally, one of the first things I did when I was pretending to be Arsène Wenger on Career Mode was to buy myself. Haha!

Me and Arsenal. It just seemed like a good match in my head.

That special connection turned into a reality when I signed here two years ago. It was a decision that changed my life around. I come into training smiling every day. But my story is definitely not Career Mode. This has been a very different journey to how I imagined it on FIFA. In real life, you can’t just select where you want to go and everything will be perfect."

Tough night for Brighton and Villa.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 22/09/2023 13:26

Martin Ødegaard, has signed a new contract! And ❤❤❤[[ of him talking about why!

Goonergirl14 · 22/09/2023 16:03

Best news I have had all day! 😀 Fantastic player/captain.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 22/09/2023 17:49

Yes, we are so lucky to have him.

I wonder if RM regret letting him go.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 22/09/2023 20:21

They must do.

I lost it in messing up the link, but the link is a video of MØ saying why he likes it at Arsenal.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 22/09/2023 21:34

I really didn't think he would come back after the loan spell especially with Klopp trying to entice him away.

I really liked the tweet that you quoted above.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 22/09/2023 21:56

Yes, I think he really enjoyed the atmosphere and culture of the club. I'm sure he was in demand in many places. I think it was a masterstroke to get him on loan.

DuncinToffee · 24/09/2023 09:20

We won! And Tarky has earned me some extra FPL points too Grin

Well that was disappointing. We really weren't on form today, constantly giving the ball away - particularly Jorginho!

Jesus should have buried that chance in the 1st half.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 24/09/2023 17:13

Yes, we didn't deserve to win. Have no idea what Jorginho was doing. I think he forgot there was an opposition team on the pitch.

Don't like it when Saka imitates other players' celebrations. Not nice.

Maddison and Son are becoming a good partnership.

We just need to beat City now to put us back on track.

DuncinToffee · 24/09/2023 18:13

Anyone has Trippier in their FPL team? Shock

TheSleepingGiant · 24/09/2023 18:20

Love/hate the NLD in equal measure. Think a draw was fair, nervy start from Spurs but gave it a real go. Van de Ven had a good game, very calm and solid at the back. Johnson also looks a good prospect.

@CharlotteStreetW1 I like to see the Dons do well, after the shit they went through 20 odd years ago and the whole rebuild, they are an inspiration. Have to admit I hate their style of football though, way too physical.

I do. I kept hold of him, despite his shaky start. Its paying off now.

I also sold Watkins for Alvarez….

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 24/09/2023 18:54

Trippier, Gordon and Isak in my team 🙌🏻🙌🏻

What a match.

DuncinToffee · 24/09/2023 19:02

Good day all around then for you Eddie

Yep. Feeling very giddy!

burblish · 24/09/2023 19:40

Poor Sheffield Utd - it feels as though it has been especially difficult for all the promoted teams this year, which I never like to see. I enjoy seeing “big” clubs getting thumped but never enjoy it when it’s the less successful/rich ones. For example, I was giddy with joy when Liverpool beat Man Utd 7-0 last season but I felt awful for Bournemouth when we beat them 9-0. That reminder of the gulf between the giant clubs and, especially, newly promoted ones is so humiliating for the losing clubs and their fans and so discouraging for their sense of how their season is going to go. Whereas when it’s like the Liverpool-Man Utd result, everyone knows with clubs of that ilk that it’s a freak game that doesn’t really say that much about likely league positions etc (as the final league table showed).

I dunno, I’m probably not explaining my feelings very well and I know it’s just the way it is and all…I just can’t take real pleasure in it, y’know? (And that’s not to take anything away from Newcastle - they were amazing today. The fact that 8 different players scored is mind blowing.)

Oblomov23 · 24/09/2023 19:42

Dh and Ds2 went to Arsenal today, I think they are accepting / happy with a draw. Romero was rash. Hope Maddison's knee is ok.

AndNobbyDancing · 24/09/2023 20:04

@burblish I understand and agree completely.

DuncinToffee · 24/09/2023 20:39

I know what you mean burblish and agree.
