Haven't found a thread for Olympic sports discussions so I'm starting one. This thread is only for discussions of the actual sporting events as they happen over the next few weeks, not the unfairness of IOC's rules/philosophy (e.g. allowing a male athlete to declare himself a woman and compete in the women's category...which is immoral, unscientific, and wholly unjust, but that topic already has multiple separate threads).

Although this will be an Olympics like no other, I'm excited for the opening ceremony tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing gymnastics and swimming especially!

Watching something just now (triathlon?) with a woman from Bermuda absolutely nailing it.

Along with bottles of water they seem to be handing the athletes what look like sandwich bags. What is in these? Does anyone know? Thanks

Wouldn't have thought the Invictus Games meant he'd be a BBC presenter for the Olympics? Don't mean to sound mean, but wish they'd have decent presenters with a world class sports background, who at least sound like they know what they're talking about!

The BBC breakfast guy is awful too. Wish they'd just stick with Clare Balding 24/7!!

I disagree, I wish they'd have the best presenters regardless of their sporting history, presenting is a skill and winning a medal doesn't mean they are any good.

My controversial opinion of the day is that the skateboarding was dull to watch and not worthy of the Olympics AND that there should be a minimum age for competitors. 17+

Interesting seeing the difference in strength between the men's and women's mountain bike x country. The Swiss women were amazing.

Tom Dean had covid twice last year, had weeks off training, struggled to breathe and walk and then takes Gold in the 200m free amazing. Then to get the Silver as well amazing .

Just watched Bianca Walkden in the taekwondo semi. Gutted for her. What is it with these last minute losses? My nerves can’t take it!
