Since the last one was about last season, here's a shiny new one! I haven't even seen quali yet, I've been so busy today Blush Who's getting up in the middle of the night?

Not having the benefit of sky I stayed away from this thread until just now.

Brilliant race

GrouchyKiwi · 22/06/2014 20:45

We found a livestream to watch it on. ;)

Really impressed by Hamilton's drive. Rosberg needs a few reliability issues. Wink

500smiles · 22/06/2014 21:04

What is this livestream magic of which you speak Kiwi?

Just tried to log into my fantasy F1 and I can't login or remember which email I used and the reset doesn't seem to be working Sad

500smiles · 23/06/2014 08:58

Thanks kiwi Thanks Wine

EauRouge · 23/06/2014 13:28

Impressive drive from Hamilton and yet more bad luck for Vettel. Red Bull didn't do too well at their home circuit.

Bottas had a good drive too. Wonder if Williams did muck up their strategy or if they genuinely couldn't compete on the harder tyre. They did so well on the super softs.

Was a bit sad for Vettel, but only a bit. DH and I have an irrational dislike for Finger Boy. Suspect he'll be a bit more humble at the end of this season, though. He's not had great drives this season even when he did finish.

Things don't look happy with Raikkonen. Wonder if he's regretting the move to Ferrari.

500smiles · 05/07/2014 07:16

Woohoo highlight of the calendar for us in F1 county.

Just been woken up by the first helicopters ferrying the wealthy in.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/07/2014 14:02

Interesting qualifying session. Such a shame about the last part of Q3! Lewis has it all to do tomorrow.

500smiles · 05/07/2014 14:41

I know! His body language spoke volumes, poor Lewis.

EauRouge · 05/07/2014 17:15

It didn't go well for him, did it. He'll be in P3 at least by the first corner though.

Sergio Perez is a bit of a bell end, isn't he?

"I feel really ashamed by the way my words have been distorted about the opportunity of racing side by side with a woman," he said.

Errr he said she would be better in the kitchen...nope can't see how his words were distorted.

EauRouge · 06/07/2014 18:07

Yes, I don't think he can get out of this one by saying he was misquoted. I will add him to the (extremely short) list of drivers I don't like.

Kimi's going to be aching a bit in the morning, eh? Hope he's OK. Shame about Rosberg.

OP posts:
GrouchyKiwi · 06/07/2014 18:22

Yes, "my casual sexism was completely misconstrued". Whatever.

Race was fun, but mostly from those further back. Shame about Nico, though it was time he had some bad luck. Wink Really glad Lewis won.

What did you think about Lauda's comments?

EauRouge · 06/07/2014 18:38

Which comments? You mean about the race being delayed?

OP posts:
500smiles · 06/07/2014 21:39

Yes him of all people you would imagine to be very pro-safety.

Really good exciting racing from the middle of the pack.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2014 09:02

Yes, about the over-regulation of the sport. I agree with him in principle. There are certainly some over-the-top rules, and it makes me feel like the drivers are a little unwilling to race hard in case they get done for something.

But in this case I think he was wrong. This wasn't just about driver safety, it was about crowd safety too.

EauRouge · 07/07/2014 09:06

Yes, I was a bit surprised that he seemed to be complaining it was too safe. I agree with him that the likelihood of another driver hitting the exact spot is almost zero, but there was still a tiny chance. Just ask Bob Kubica about the injuries you can pick up from knackered armco.

I nearly chewed my fingers to the bone at that Alonso/Vettel duel, great stuff. Shame they were both so whingey about it.

Would anyone mind if I joined the thread? I've only just come across it.

I've been watching F1, on and off, since my early teens, back when not all races were televised and Murray used to commentate like his trousers were on fire.

I've been taking a renewed interest in the last few years, though don't get to see every race as I don't have Sky TV (staying at my mum's this weekend, who does, so should be able to watch Hockenheim).

EauRouge · 19/07/2014 08:10

Hello It's a bit rubbish not having all the races on the beeb, isn't it. Mind you, I've seen the Sky coverage and didn't like it as much as the BBC coverage.

Anyone want to make a prediction for Hockenheim? My predictions always go wrong, but I'm going to say Ricciardo.

OP posts:
OberonTheHopeful · 19/07/2014 09:27

You may be right, Daniel's been showing such promise all season and the car is definitely catching up too. I think the new circuit at Hockenheim certainly won't favour Mercedes powered cars as much as the old one would have.

I have to admit, mostly for sentimental reasons to be honest, I would have liked to see the Williams team do better than they have so far.

EauRouge · 19/07/2014 09:50

I miss old Hockenheim. Remember when Rubens won there from near the back of the grid in 2000-ish? That was ace.

Williams are getting better, I think Claire Williams is doing a good job. Podiums in the last 2 races is pretty good going! Better than McLaren anyway, yikes. They're having a rubbish season.

OP posts:
OberonTheHopeful · 19/07/2014 10:09

I can't believe it was so long ago! Wasn't it Ruben's first win? I miss the old circuit too, the long straights through the forest made it seem really special.

Claire Williams is doing a very good job, though given her background I imagine she has engine oil in her blood! McLaren have been disappointing for a while (their car last season really wasn't up to much either by their normal standards). I wonder if they're just concentrating on next season's car now and holding it together this year as well as they can.

EauRouge · 19/07/2014 10:19

That's true, she probably could have run an F1 team in her teens.

Yes, I think it was his first win. Remember him crying like a baby on the podium? Bless him Grin

He's never been afraid of showing his emotions, definitely not the ice man! I was a bit sad when he retired as I think he added some sparkle to the grid.

EauRouge · 19/07/2014 10:32

Yes, it was sad to see him go, I think everyone loved him. I miss Hakkinen too. I was a Schumacher fan but it was always brilliant seeing those two race. He retired way too early.
