I agree with others about professional suction from an audiologist. After a swimming session I was completely deaf in one ear, I assume a lump of wax had moved and was now stopping me hearing. I used the oil drops for a week and the audiologist sucked the blockage out in a minute, said it was really blocked. I wish I could have seen her screen though to watch the procedure, but she had me turned to the wall. I did watch loads of Tik tons on ear wax removal whilst I was waiting for my appointment. 😂

Did you use cooled but boiled water or bottled water OP?
I had this done a few times and ended up with a fungal ear infection because the water wasn't purified first. The infections lasted a year and were far worse than the wax.

I used cooled boiled water which hopefully is ok. I swear back when the nurse at the GP used to do it she used to use tap water. I remember her filling her gadget at the sink!

I’ve had private microsuction once before with an audiology person. Took ages as my ears were so blocked, and I broke/jammed up his first machine and he had to fetch a second one! 😂

I syringe my own ears. I know it's frowned upon, but I need to do it at least every 3 months. I don't really feel I could get them microsuctioned at a specialist every 3 months! Does anyone go that frequently?
I wonder if you can buy at-home microsuction things...

How on earth do people get to have ears that do that and is it wrong that I’m envious?!

Same 😂😂😂

@BippidyBoppety - I've recently developed that, I think. It's really itchy and now and again I scrape out the dead skin with a finger nail, which makes it sore. How do you treat yours, if you don't mind me asking?

Anyone else first saw the sink plug? I was thinking how the heck did you get that in your ear, lol, then I scrolled down further and saw what it was, not so impressed now (joking of course).

I looked at the plug too! I thought it was a piece from an earbud.

I have to get my ears suctioned regularly due to having had a mastoidectomy many years ago. I have to use softening drops beforehand - if not it is very painful for me.

I'm on meds for psoriasis generally which I think helps, I had psoriasis everywhere and now don't (the relief!) but warm olive oil keeps the skin in the ears soft, or Vaseline to the outer ear.

Cow dairy can cause this. So can gluten.

I must admit I have chronically bunged up sinuses as well. Maybe it’s all related. Snot and ear wax.

I agree OP, I too suffer with too much ear wax, and used to have to have them syringed regularly. Then they stopped doing it at my surgery, and our local places cost around £100 a time. A while back I'd been suffering from clogged ears for a week, and it was driving me nuts, so I ordered something very similar to your link from Amazon, on next day delivery. Oh, the bliss of being able to hear again!! Now, the minute I start to go deaf, I get the kit out and clear it out, as you say, best bit of kit ever when you suffer with blocked ears!

AmberHoney · 07/07/2025 23:34

Kit ordered!
Cant wait to have unblocked ears.
