Random raw skin thing - ideas?

So I realised my skin on my stomach felt wet and assumed I'd spilt something...

Its like a burst blister thing?? And some lumpy skin around it??

Any idea? I don't remember doing anything to it... 😳

(some of the flakiness I think might be where the plaster was.)

So daily update!

Saw the nurse - it still looks gross to me but she was happy with it. Says it's healing and most of the issue is the rection to the adhesive dressing. She's prescribing the special dressings and says to come back if it gets worse or I'm concerned. She's lovely and it's much easier to get a nurse app than a dr one!

Just a small thought, but could you have been near a
saucepan or anything on the hob/out of the oven that a lot of steam came out of when the lid was taken off? I only ask because I once got a burn - on my bloody boob of all places - that I couldn’t work out what it was as knew I hadn’t had anything touch me there. Then if occurred to me that it was definitely a burn, but was actually caused by steam when I must’ve leant over a pan (braless, but obviously a top, so no added layer of bra to protect the area more) I remembered it felt hot, because, y’know, steam, but I had no idea that I could get a burn like that! Another reason to ask is because it sounds at tho it’s hob/worktop height. The reason why it didn’t hurt is likely that (if it is a burn) depending on the degree of burning you might not have any nerve pain in that area.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 19/03/2025 23:05

That would make sense... Except I wouldn't have had my stomach exposed at all. It would have bee under leggings and a top. Perhaps if the hot water bottle slowly burnt it. I don't think we will know.

I did wonder about side bite too!! As well as all the worrying things it could be.

I think tonight it looks like it is (slowly) improving and Im hopeful it will be okay. Even though it's still quite a large thing and I'd like it gone!

Once it's cleared up I will have to investigate if I'll react to all plasters now 😬.

I've attached this evenings picture. 😊

Still looking much the same but no pain. Hoping it shrinks a bit or does something soon!

It's crusted over lovely 🤣, I wouldn't worry as long as it is dry and not painful. If that is a little pocket of pus it will take a while to sort of reasorb as it is kind of encapsulated under the surface now? Looks like its healing to me though.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 21/03/2025 17:48

Ooh thankyou! I don't know about pus. It's not oozing or squishy.

Its not like a normal scab as its kind of attached and not above the skin.

I never felt any pain thankfully! I lost sensation to the actual wound.

I've just found this thread and feel weirdly invested! I'm sorry you're going through this, OP. Are you still seeing the doctor? I really don't like the colour of that thing...I've never seen anything like it. 😬

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 22/03/2025 18:44

Aww thankyou 😁. I've not seen a doctor at all.... A nurse in minor injuries last weekend and then the nurse in my GPs on Monday.

I am still clueless. But the red reaction to the dressings has mostly gone. The middle bit is still weird to me (nurse said it was healing fine!). It's hard and beginning to pull slightly at the edges. If I didn't know it was deep I'd be soooo tempted to try crack it!!

I haven't been told how long to take the steroid/anti whatever cream for but the packet says not longer than 2 weeks and it's been a week. Also not sure if that was mainly for the red rash or to keep the wound uninfected!!

I've included an update photo 😁. Lovely stretchmarks... But I'm in Mounjaro and believe or not my stomach is smaller than it was! By the end of the year I might pass for just overweight...

She's given me a lovely honey based moisturising cream I ought to put on it in a minute.

Still loks just the same today... I have no idea how long it will take to heal. Presumably it is healing sort of underneath the not-really-a-scab...

OP posts:
GoldfinchesInTheTree · 25/03/2025 07:16

So not sure much is changing. It's slightly cracking around the edge I think. (so resisting urge to pick given I don't know what it is!!)

Wounds tend to heal from the bottom up so under the scab it's hopefully healing well and the depth will be reducing. It does look better

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 25/03/2025 07:36

Yay! That's good news :)

Certainly all the red reaction to the dressings has gone so the cream was working (or it was just happier without a dressing). Makes it easier for me to look at and less like a crime scene!

The actual wound/scabby thing looks like nothings changed to me but that would make sense if it's happening underneath! I can't believe how little I know about these things!

It looks better to me. I agree I'd expect it to be healing under that crusty hole, at some point i expect that greeny bit will lift up and fall off, hopefully leaving fresh clean skin underneath. Given it made like a little ulcerated pit I wouldnt expect it to heal fast, it needs all the layers of skin to build back up and grow over.

So a week on...

The skin around it has returned to normal mostly. The as actual scabby bit looks similar ish but it was a bit dry so I put more of the honey cream she gave me on it then took a photo!

I assume it's doing some sort of magic under the surface as apart from looking a bit more cracked it kind of looks the same...

Today's wondering after a bit of an image Google is wondering whether it was a spider bite. But I'm slightly phobic of bugs and things so might need to see top going down that rabbit hole.

I'm still puzzled how I got it. I found a reddit thread with something similar posted by someone who wasn't sure how he got it (but went to get it checked out /antibiotics etc). He was in America and it didn't follow up with what it actually was!

OP posts:
GoldfinchesInTheTree · 04/04/2025 08:52

I want to pick it sooo bad. I have perhaps pulled some of the edge bits off... I do know I shouldn't and the fact its not done much means it needs to be there/ it was quite deep but but but...

OP posts:
GoldfinchesInTheTree · 04/04/2025 08:54

Um if I google search the image its coming up with skin cancer or squamous cell something. That is just because "all roads on google lead to cancer" isn't it? Someone would have said something by now if they were worried wouldn't they..?

OP posts:
Chrysanthemum5 · 04/04/2025 10:08

Stop using Google! Yes all roads lead to cancer if you do that but you've had different medical professionals look at it and they have not mentioned cancer so take comfort from that.

It looks like it is healing well to me (based on being a clumsy person who had had a lot of scabs in her life 😂)

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 04/04/2025 13:01

Thankyou :) . I woke up in the middle of the night last night and didn't get back to sleep and I think my brain goes down strange places when I haven't slept. I am much more stable now (coffee... work...) but yes my brain had gone "well only 2 nurses have seen it.. and we still don't know why I have it" mixed with Dr Google (which I did know really wasn't sensible) led to a disproportionate amount of anxiety!

I appreciate the clumsy people on this thread a lot :) Thankyou!

So another week on... I'm not sure it's doing anything at all?? Will I have it forever.....

Its dry and needs the moisturiser but that's upstairs!

Its 2.5cm long for scale.

I think it will go but well done on not picking away at that scab!

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 11/04/2025 21:12

Oh I want to so much!! If it was on the surface/superficial/lifted easily I would have... but it doesn't. It sort of cracks a bit but seems fully glued in and still quite deep...

OP posts:
Trufflethewuffle · 12/04/2025 12:03

Are you diabetic? I ask as I had a non healing wound in October and was forward and backward to the nurses until they decided to test for diabetes just before Christmas. Sugars were sky high but wound healed rapidly once we got that under control.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 12/04/2025 13:51

I am a prime candidate (morbidly obese - but losing with MJ yay!) but I've had 2 hba1c tests and both are in the normal range (near the top - but not in the pre-diabetic bit, and the recent blood test was 3 months after the previous and had come down) so I don't think so.

I am a bit worried its not clearing up though. Especially as I don't know how I got it!

OP posts:
GoldfinchesInTheTree · 14/04/2025 14:48

Eek I did bad.

The edge was lifting (it's quite dry and cracked) and there was a bit that was almost stringy round the edge.... So I pulled it off 😳.

I think what must have happened is where it's on my stomach it's moved a lot and bent and the stringer bit was it sticking itself back to the edges (it's sort of submerged rather than above the skin).

It looks like raw flesh underneath round the edges like a gaping hole still. (I think. I guess i don't know. Wet, pale pink with little red lines in it), and then started to bleed at the end I pulled off. Oops.

I'm a bit worried the scabby bit hasn't done anything and it's just become a crater of doom underneath.

I've put a giant dressing on from the Dr's as the loose scab without the edge bits would just get knocked about. I hope I'm not allergic to this one.

I am wondering what point I ought to go show someone again. I am guessing the nurse practicioner would just look at it and say it looks like a wound with a scab on it so don't want to waste their time.

But I saw the edge of the crater of doom 😳.
I have a photo but it is super grossness and doesn't show much as all the edges of the C.O.D filled in with blood.
