Random raw skin thing - ideas?

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 12/03/2025 20:00

So I realised my skin on my stomach felt wet and assumed I'd spilt something...

Its like a burst blister thing?? And some lumpy skin around it??

Any idea? I don't remember doing anything to it... 😳

(some of the flakiness I think might be where the plaster was.)

Ouch! Try to leave it alone - sometimes the raw pinky bit is new skin forming so hopefully it will be ok

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 14/04/2025 15:26

It's covered now with a giant dressing - so it will be left... I'm just worried it's not actually doing anything now 😳.

I was kind of hoping the edge peely bit was because it was healed!

It's taking so long to heal, do you think it could be a skin ulcer? I'd be inclined to go back to the doctor, or maybe just ask for an online consultation armed with your series of photos and the timeline.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 14/04/2025 15:32

Definitely was ulcer like from the beginning.

Its never been seen by a Dr and our online thing is only for very basic communication rather than one like my mums whee you send photos etc...

I can make an appointment with a dr but it will be 6 weeks time.. (I am wondering if I should change practice as although my mums tend to not want you to have a real life app they do respond quickly to their app)

I could probably see a nurse pracrioner more quickly but it has only been seen by NPs. Its not going to go away anytime soon is it? I just don't want the fuss if they won't be interested!

OP posts:
Speckson · 14/04/2025 15:39

Sounds as if you should change doctors. They won't think you are making a fuss over something trivial - you've given it plenty of time to resolve and followed the advice you were given and it's still looking nasty, though thankfully doesn't seem to be worse.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 14/04/2025 15:51

Just tried online in case I'd got it wrong and no option to add pictures it's really just to send a message about a referal or something I think.

I remember in covid we could click area of the body/photos/etc as I thought it was fab when it didn't need a physical look. A phone appointment would be pointless though.

How hum.

Here's today's picture after it's been undercover overnight. Haven't had a reply from my email. Wondering about getting a nurse appointment as that's easier than a dr one..

If you can get a nurse appointment it would be good to get someone to have a look at if it was quite a deep wound it will take a while to heal, but I think you've been very patient and someone looking at it in real life would be helpful

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 15/04/2025 08:49

Thankyou. Just rung the surgery. There's no option to send photos.

I've got a nurse practicioner appointment.... In 2weeks!!!

Oh well. I guess it's probably still going to be here then.

I'm wondering about looking at other doctors but this is the main one that covers our estate/has a good pharmacy attached etc.

Thw other dr I can find is like a satellite from one much further away so has limited hours/no pharmacy

And I presume most doctors are becoming difficult with appointments.

Id have been happy to do an online form/photo though tbh.

OP posts:
Chrysanthemum5 · 15/04/2025 12:44

That is ridiculous- is it worth asking a pharmacist to take a look?

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 15/04/2025 14:21

ONLY CLICK ON THE SENSITIVE IMAGE IF HAPPY TO SEE MANKY WOUND.

So just looked under the dressing and where I'd peeled the edge off (they're going to be so cross with me aren't they)
it's oozy and manky.

So rang the Dr's and said I can't wait 2 weeks and got an appointment this afternoon.

I feel stupid. I wonder if I reinfected it. By tugging on it I pulled the bit round the edge holding it together and they're going to be cross aren't they as that was my fault. I feel an idiot. But at least it will be seen.

So.. I know everyone is loving random skin wound updates 😂.

She said it wasn't healing...!

She cleaned it out ( I had no feeling so not as bad as I thought) and tried to lift the scabby bit. She was talking about "slough" getting in the way of healing. She was brilliantly on it.

Has prescribed some dressing which encourage Slough removal/the scab bit to lift (oh I so want to pick it-she said it was firmly attached but to "agitate it in the shower" music to my ears 😁😂)

So 3 weeks of being covered and special Slough dressing and follow up with the district nurse in 3 weeks which she booked.

Still don't know about changing surgery. Once I saw someone they were brilliant!

I'm so glad you got it seen, OP! Did the doctor have any thoughts on what caused it in the first place? Or why it's not healing? Really good news that you have a special dressing for it now that will help - you must be so sick of dealing with the Pit of Doom!

Chrysanthemum5 · 15/04/2025 19:43

That is good news @GoldfinchesInTheTree you must have been relieved. And thank you for thinking to update us all!

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 15/04/2025 20:53

Thanks - The Nurse Practioner was lovely and said that sometimes it just happens - but also that it is in an awkward place (its where the top of my pants/ top of my leggings press) . She didn't say - but I also wonder if it its because its on the edge of my stomach and I'm morbidly obese. ..

I asked several times if I needed to worry it wasn't healing/ was weird and she wasn't worried and said these dressings would absorb/encourage the slough to come off which should help but that the HV would look in 3 weeks...

I did google again and have obviously decided I have a rare cancer. I thought it was a leg ulcer until I realised the key word leg there....

I'll quiz the DN in 3 weeks as well but I'm hoping it will show signs of healing by then.

I happened to come across this thread because I have a similar issue that occurred randomly. Huge blister and after it drained from clear watery fluid I have a large area that looks very similar to yours. It's on my breast however in the lower area below the nipple. Im also wondering if its from friction, infection, or an autoimmune issue.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 21/04/2025 04:08

Oh wow I'm not the only one! How is yours now?

I still have no idea about mine but I've rationailised that if it's autoimmune/somethings up I'll get another one (cheerful thought) so I'm not worrying about it as such.

I did wonder about friction or spider bite still.

Part of my issue was that I then reacted to the dressing, and then it paused healing due to the sloughy scab thing.

I've looked today and I think mines healing now the sloughy lump is off so I think keeping it covered might be the way forwards for me now. I'm just frustrated it's now taken so long!!

Have you shown yours to anyone? The beet person I saw was nurse practicioner at the surgery who had experience with wounds.

OP posts:
Stephidimples · 21/04/2025 05:13

No I haven't shown anyone yet but I am going to make an appt with a dermatologist tomorrow. I have had this before but it was 1 or 2 years ago. I cant find any patterns other than maybe bra friction but i also had a reaction to the sticky adhesive on a large bandage i put over it at first. After the blister had emptied the thin top layer of skin was completely loose and detached from the bottom layer and then rubbed off in my sleep. After a day or two the scab looks like yours.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 21/04/2025 09:32

Gosh that is literally just like me isn't it - right down to the reaction.

Id love to know what it is - can you let me know what they tell you?

They were originally happy with my scab but when it hadn't healed after a month and started lifting (ahem I helped) I covered it and it was clear it was "sloughy" and preventing it from healing. When I cleaned it yesterday it looks like I've got granulation tissue poking through and at the edge so I think mine is happier healing with a cover.

Do please keep me updated as the whole thing has been a mystery for me.

Recent photo - still sloughy in the middle but the dressing is encouraging it to lift - I think it's healing around the edge a bit and the red bumps new flesh?

I think that definitely looks better! The colour in the middle looks much healthier and it seems to finally be healing. You must be so relieved!

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 22/04/2025 18:34

Oh I really am. It seems that slough and not-a-scab we're preventing healing and now it's lifting it is getting better!

OhI missed off the part way icky photos between this and the last one!! Going to put it here for those who like that kind of thing!

Its going to be awhile before I can get into my dermatologist but I debrided the blackish scab myself and then have been using a steroid cream (triamsonolone) and its healing. The last time I had this the scab did hinder healing it took forever. This time I took that dead tissue off.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 22/04/2025 18:49

Ooh well done. Yes it seemed mine needed that off to heal. It's helping keeping it covered/moist this time.
Hope yours is okay. Are you taking photos to show the dermatologist?
I've kept mine so if I do get anything weird again they can see what happened!

Stephidimples · 22/04/2025 18:58

Yes I have photos from the very beginning when it was a huge blister and all along the way. I felt like it was really necessary this time because like you I need answers
