WTF is this on my foof?!

Woke up with this lump just below the crease where my belly starts. It's redder/ purple IRL. It's not sore when I leave it alone. I've prodded it and pulled out some hairs and now it's stinging a bit. When I squeezed it clear liquid beaded up where I'd just pulled the hair out. It looks like there's a black dot in there. What is this and what do I do? I'm a bit worried it's turning into a boil...

There'll be a hair curled up in there. Leave it for a bit, then have another try and a long hair will magically unfurl...

Whar · 30/12/2024 10:38

How long should I leave it and how do I "try"? Squeeze, needle, pincers?

Put a hot flannel on it or have a hot bath. I agree- its likely an ingrown hair.

Maddy70 · 30/12/2024 11:16

Ingrowing hair

JC03745 · 30/12/2024 13:15

I must admit, when I read the title, I thought it was a spelling error and expected to see something on your foot! 😬

Have you tried the hot flannel?
You could also try magnesium sulphate cream to help draw it out.

90yomakeuproom · 30/12/2024 13:16

It's definitely an ingrown hair

Hskatkat · 30/12/2024 22:22

I don't believe you can buy mag sulfate anymore, but salt (cheap table) or epsom salt baths can help calm things.
Looks like a ingrown hair.

I thought roof

SoulMole · 30/12/2024 22:28

I'd scratch the top off with a sterilised needle and release the hair. Works well.

Tried two pharmacies today and it was OOS in both, one said it hadn't been available for over a year. Do you know why this might be?

I managed to buy some a couple of months ago. Amazon?

Hskatkat · 30/12/2024 22:31

@Whar do you have anyone who would be willing to have a closer look for you?
They will be able to access it easier than you

Whar · 30/12/2024 22:32

Sorry folks, I thought foof and fanjo were interchangeable on here!

No luck getting hold of magnesium sulphate paste. It's still a bit sore. I am trying not to squeeze it every time I go to the loo... Unsuccessfully so far!

Hot flannel, a few times. Then Sudocreme.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 30/12/2024 22:32

I have magnesium sulphate. I’ll keep hold of it then if it’s banned. DH used it for an infection on his toe.

Hskatkat · 30/12/2024 22:34

I'm not sure why @Whar but it's not been available in any pharmacy I've tried in about 8 months, I used to use it on my dogs it the got a cut etc (a vet recommended it she's ago, when you have multiple dogs one is always doing something !!)
I've no idea if it's actually banned, or just difficult to find for a different reason

I mean, I have two young sons who would find it hilarious to look at MUMMY'S VAGINA... And a husband who a) is not a happy bunny currently for entirely unrelated reasons and b) not a sporner. In other words, no😅

oh god no, they can’t discontinue mag sulph! 😧

What will we all do about splinters?

Might be banned, might be Brexit...

Mag sulph paste is discontinued for some random reason I can’t fathom. However, if you mix epsom
salts and a few drops of water that IS magnesium sulphate paste. It’s one and the same thing.

OP it’s a hair. Hate to disappoint but despite a lot of needles and paste and flannels and whatever mine still rears up in much the same place every few months. Really annoying!

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 30/12/2024 22:36

It looks like there is a magnesium sulphate shortage, no banning involved. You can buy it online.

Whar · 30/12/2024 22:44

JFC, I've just had another look and I now have what seems like a huge purple bruise a bit below this original thing, which I imagine is from my earlier attempt to gently squeeze it😱 Sporner as I may be, I'm loath to put in needle in there as it is already so angry looking and I don't have enough hands to be able to do it carefully...

OP posts:
Hskatkat · 30/12/2024 22:45

No needles!!!! Stop

Hskatkat · 30/12/2024 22:49

Bruising will be from your earlier attempts. Leave it to calm down.
If I was your mate, I would offer to help, could you not ask anyone.... Maybe not that postman but a sister ,friend (or nextdoor?! )

MrsPeterHarris · 30/12/2024 22:51

Have a hot bath and let the warm water open your pores & then try tweezers on it.
