If you ignored an ingrown hair for years, would it look like this?

If you can zoom in, nestled discretely amongst the freckles, you'll see what I think is an ingrown hair. There's a hole, but the bump within the hole is completely healed over by skin. It's kinda greyish, and looks beyond the sterilised needle and poke it treatment. Been there for years, having previously been poked, squeezed, hot flanneled and mag sulphed. It doesn't hurt and is kind of camouflaged but I'm curious to know what's lurking beneath. Any suggestions?

Ahh that was very satisfying sporning!!

Might you ever have been abducted by aliens, OP? They do say that aliens implant something small where most people wouldn't spot it... 😱

I have one of these but it never had a name beyond the pluke. It got infected and needed antibiotics and sort of crackled. The pharmacist said they have very tough cell walls.
Im glad it has a name now! Pluke of winer!

I have a pluke too! Although I spell it looks. Its on my back, and I've been saving it for a year so my friends can dig it out while we are on holiday.

It causes much excitement when I let them have a go at it, and when one of them gets it out, the others all moan because their squeeze wasn't successful.

BellaBobbins · 29/04/2024 17:04

I mean plook not looks!

AmyDudley · 29/04/2024 17:19

My exH used to produce pearls out of his head. A lump would swell up, and he'd let me dig about, and a hard solid pearl would pop out, he was like an oyster but cheaper and slightly less snotlike.

Its the only thing I miss about him.

Just been brave enough to poke it. It's solid.
DP said we're all weird fuckers.
I can live with that.

We've got a magnifying 9x eye thing (meant for looking at intricate mechanisms) that my DH used in a previous job. We use it to examine anything like this. That mini kidney would be straight under that for closer inspection.

warning have lemon juice,, tomato or other digestable acidic FOOD item at hand in case of heart hiccups

eat something that is both fatty and salty and then run constantly for 30mins to send it around your body (wear many layers if you wish to generate more sweat). then eat sugary item with some more of the same fat used before, have hot shower and start squeezing and compression towards centre of pimple from all angles from 1.25" away from centre

the fat will shoot out ingrown hairs from subderrmal level at which point you can gently scrape without exceeding elastic exhaustion of red muscle/sinewy member attached to base of pimple head

cheers and happy panting

Or just let your husband dig it out with a needle and tweezers.

Work is rubbish but I've just read this thread & now I feel better!

eggandonion · 29/04/2024 19:52

@BellaBobbins are you Scottish? Im from NI but had a couple of Scottish colleagues when I worked in a posh part of England. I don't think I ever wrote pluke or plook before.
I leave mine alone since the infection. I had to have Epsom salt baths and magnesium sulphate poultices as well as antibiotics.
Im delighted I can use its official title.

I've never seen anything like that come out of a blemish

You should send these pics to your GP just to be sure it’s nothing else.

Fryleela · 29/04/2024 21:20

Ooo I think I may have something like this on my leg. Had it about 15 years and thought it was probably an ingrown hair but previous attempts to get it out have failed. Haven’t attacked it in a few years. Going for a spa day with steam rooms this week so might have to attempt it afterwards.

CBClub · 29/04/2024 21:32

This did not disappoint! Thank you. 😅

You're very pale, lots of sun damage evidence on your skin and not very hairy, an ingrown hair is so not what I would have guessed it. I would have worried it's skin cancer and had it checked.
I thought it looked like an embryo....

Freckles is sun damage?

Freckles is sun damage?

They can be.
People have them anyway of course, but freckles can appear with sun exposure. I used to get tiny ones on my nose & cheeks if I neglected sun cream.
