If you ignored an ingrown hair for years, would it look like this?

If you can zoom in, nestled discretely amongst the freckles, you'll see what I think is an ingrown hair. There's a hole, but the bump within the hole is completely healed over by skin. It's kinda greyish, and looks beyond the sterilised needle and poke it treatment. Been there for years, having previously been poked, squeezed, hot flanneled and mag sulphed. It doesn't hurt and is kind of camouflaged but I'm curious to know what's lurking beneath. Any suggestions?

BigBadBarri · 29/04/2024 08:06

Amazing. And I’m so glad you came back to update the thread.

Thank you, OP, on behalf of us all

You're very pale, lots of sun damage evidence on your skin and not very hairy, an ingrown hair is so not what I would have guessed it. I would have worried it's skin cancer and had it checked.
I thought it looked like an embryo....

MaryBay · 29/04/2024 08:13

Isn't it worse having a sunken crater in your skin now? The scab will be fun!

PhuckyNell · 29/04/2024 08:22

Ah how lovely! How much does he weigh? 😂

And do we have a name yet?

3luckystars · 29/04/2024 09:12

I vote for Declan

It's most likely a keratin plug.

Absolutely not cancerous.

Wipe the wound with hand sanitiser and it will momentarily sting and then it will soon heal.

I think it would be worth contacting your GP.
With mine we can ask a question/request an appointment online. You could attach a picture and ask if it needs to be tested. Tell them the measurements.

Obvs if op is at all worried she should contact the gp.

I get bits like that out of my skin all the time. It's just bits of skin and sebum that's hardened over time. I wouldnt dream of seeing my gp over mine.

Marvellous. Thank you for sharing.

I had something like this years ago at the top of my thigh. No idea what it was but identical to yours, it never came back and left a little scar.

eggandonion · 29/04/2024 10:13

I have one of these but it never had a name beyond the pluke. It got infected and needed antibiotics and sort of crackled. The pharmacist said they have very tough cell walls.
Im glad it has a name now! Pluke of winer!

Agreed. I love my DH dearly but he would not follow me down this path.

minipie · 29/04/2024 12:16

Oooh

How satisfying.

I’m a bit jealous.

It’s an Alien implant, probably inserted while you were abducted in your sleep.

warning have lemon juice,, tomato or other digestable acidic FOOD item at hand in case of heart hiccups

eat something that is both fatty and salty and then run constantly for 30mins to send it around your body (wear many layers if you wish to generate more sweat). then eat sugary item with some more of the same fat used before, have hot shower and start squeezing and compression towards centre of pimple from all angles from 1.25" away from centre

the fat will shoot out ingrown hairs from subderrmal level at which point you can gently scrape without exceeding elastic exhaustion of red muscle/sinewy member attached to base of pimple head

cheers and happy panting

That was perfection. A beginning, middle and end.

Yogachick · 29/04/2024 15:14

What a wonderful thread! Thankyou x

JustJoinedRightNow · 29/04/2024 16:00

I pulled one of these out myself out of the back of my thigh about five years ago. I still remember it exactly and fondly go into memory recall of every exact moment, including the pop when it popped out like a plug. Bliss.

Thanks for sharing OP! I squashed mine with my thumbnails after looking at it for a long time.
