Oh including swelling under skin it’s about golf ball size

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/10/2022 16:16

A cyst? But tbh I would see the nurse practitioner at the GP's surgery for advice on what to do.

Cornettoninja · 16/10/2022 16:18

That looks nasty, I’m not surprised it’s painful.

definitely a Nurse Practitioner/minor injuries job.

Wtafis · 16/10/2022 16:26

Can’t see nurse until tomorrow as a minimum. Any ideas what I can do in the meantime!

Do you have a local urgent care? Might be worth a visit if you do.

I'd take painkillers for now, and maybe draw a line around it just in the redness spreads. Don't stab it or anything like that!

WhoWants2Know · 16/10/2022 16:31

Hot wet flannel on it might help

Wtafis · 16/10/2022 16:34

There’s minor injuries but I’m home alone with two under 6, so not doing that unless it’s life threatening

DH literally couldn’t get home until 8 at the earliest and no one local to watch them for something minor

RampantIvy · 16/10/2022 16:40

Could be an abscess. I had one and was really ill until the antibiotics kicked in.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/10/2022 16:43

Start using hot compresses with salt water, minimum 3 x a day. Cover it with Savlon or Germoline in between bathings.

Wtafis · 16/10/2022 17:40

When you say hot compresses you mean put a flannel on it that’s been in hot salt water?

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/10/2022 18:03

Yes, not boiling water but hot as you can stand without scalding yourself. Good teaspoon of salt.

Wtafis · 16/10/2022 19:38

Tried compress.

I think it’s brought it to the surface as it’s now catching as I walk. Super painful

Ouch. Please keep up updated with photos OP. It's the law on here. Do you have any magnesium sulphate? If it pops please show us the evidence 😁

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/10/2022 19:42

I was going to suggest magnesium sulphate too.
definitely draw around it
keep an eye in your temperature
do you have an out of hours GP service that you can ring for advice?

Tippexy · 16/10/2022 19:43

I mean I would pop it with a needle if that were mine!

Wtafis · 16/10/2022 19:52

I can’t contemplate the pain of putting a pen to even the edge.

no mgso4 here that’s a good suggestion

i do have some neosporin cream from USA, might try putting some of that on

OP posts:
StillNotWarm · 16/10/2022 19:57

If the flannel brought it to the surface, keep going with it.
I had a much smaller one that receded with tea tree oil. Have you got anything like that around?

Wtafis · 16/10/2022 20:06

Have done an inventory of medicine cupboard

  • athletes foot cream
  • neosporin
  • haemmoroid cream
  • falpol
  • paracetamol
  • piriton
OP posts:
PeloFondo · 16/10/2022 20:07

It looks like the abscesses I get, the purple/black/dark is because it's full of blood usually
They're painful (I currently have 4!) hot baths, hot compresses and paracetamol

Wtafis · 16/10/2022 20:21

Bloody hell @PeloFondo yoite made of stronger stuff than me dealing with 4

OP posts:
Boobreduction · 16/10/2022 20:37

Looks like an ingrown hair that may have infected. I had one similar, very painful and very dark in places right at the top of the thigh where I used to shave.

Went to GP who wasn't concerned and it just went away after a few days

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/10/2022 20:44

Just use a sharpie lightly around the edge. Definitely not biro

longcovidquestions · 16/10/2022 20:49

4 abscesses!!

PeloFondo · 16/10/2022 21:12

longcovidquestions · 16/10/2022 20:49

4 abscesses!!

I have hidradenitis supprativa, so it's not unusual for me! They're quite small (£1 size) but just annoying as they're at various stages of sore/healing/bleeding
I don't get medical treatment unless they're big (golf ball size) or not going or obviously infected

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/10/2022 22:05

Keep going with the hot compresses.
