I'm trying to get rid of a 10 year old verucca. I can't tell if it's going well or not. Wtf is going on! It hurts! I have a hole in my foot!!

What did you use on it to get it to start to pop out like that? I have one on the ball of my foot that’s so painful. Two goes of cryotherapy on it and been treating it in between with glutarol and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

I had a huge one for 5 years. Regular (and expensive) visits to chiropodist to burn it off/cut it down only gave temporary relief before it grew back again.

Tried banana skin, duct tape, needling, over the counter remedies, filing etc etc all of which made no difference at all. Doctor didn't take the pain seriously, so I insisted on a referral to podiatric surgeon. He said he could cut it out deeply but would mean 6 weeks on crutches no weight bearing. Plus, he said if the verruca can back along the scar, it would be worse than before, so I didn't want to risk it.

Amazingly, I mentioned it in passing to a consultant dermatologist at an unrelated appointment and he said he could laser it of. By this point I was in so much pain and unable to walk any distance, so I thought I had nothing to lose. The procedure was pain free, took less than 2 minutes and didn't even require a dressing. That day changed my life and was the best £100 I ever spent! Not cheap but I must have spent four times that visiting the chiropodist to no avail. No hole left, in fact not even a scar where it was.

People were really dismissive of the pain, saying you're immune system will sort it out, which it never did. Probably not helped by the fact I'd just had a baby. But lasers - who knew?!

Interesting will keep this in mind if this one isn't gone!

Aren't the little black spots verucca 'seeds'?
What are you treating it with?
I had 2 verucca patches for a decade, tried the tea tree, banana peel, duct tape etc. Nothing worked until I used the green bazooka RELIGIOUSLY, according to the instructions, like a ritual every night! It took 2 months but they are gone and haven't returned!

Ugh ffs seeds 😩. Will let it fully heel and see what happens with it

@drbrowns so those plasters made the skin die basically then I used a needle to pick out the dead skin around it! A few nights of picking and it got to the first picture!

So I just leave it alone?

OP posts:
almondfinger · 07/06/2022 07:32

That was a thing of beauty. Walking must be a bit difficult.

leave it alone for a few days and see how it heals. Obv come straight back to this thread if there is any change! 😉

jevoudrais · 07/06/2022 13:09

This was beautiful @MsChatterbox thank you 🙏🏻

Hope your foot heals quickly

same 🤣👌🏼

MsChatterbox · 14/08/2022 21:42

Update! It's taking bloody ages to fully "heal"! I've been to a podiatrist to check and she confirms its just callus now that needs to be routinely filed down until smooth... I'm hoping one day I can come back with a completely normal heel pic but I have no idea when that will be 😂

Looks to me as though you still have verrucas in your heal.

Antarcticant · 14/08/2022 23:00

Does it hurt if you press on it?

prettybird · 14/08/2022 23:33

I would definitely say you still have verrucas (verrucae? Wink) there. But they look quite shallow now and filing them every day will help wear them down and help trigger your body's own immune system to reject them, which is the most effective way to be rid of them long term. Smile

prettybird · 14/08/2022 23:39

....and my verrucas never hurt Confused Had whole crops of them on the ball of my foot for years - managed to get rid of them with salicylic acid (80% red of them and then had to leave it as the process hurt and I was going skiing and then they went of their own accord) but then they came back about 15 years later and I eventually got rid of them again, combination of freezing and Bazooka plus daily filing. Been clear again for about 5 years.

MsChatterbox · 15/08/2022 06:04

Are you guys referring to the black spots?they are just broken blood vessels!

OP posts:
Goatsanddogs · 15/08/2022 06:20

The tell tale sign is the demarcation between healthy skin and the verruca, slightly paler, often minimally raised circular like tissue. You have several verruca there now, they are shallow and won’t cause pain. They could spread further so don’t pick the skin, wash hands after touching or you might get warts. You could try a salicylic acid treatment and keep the area covered at all times, once the skin becomes all white and rubbery your bodies immune system will try to heal it. Verruca are so difficult to get rid of. Often the black dots are a sign you still have verruca and yes they are blood vessels that are in live tissue ie the verruca. Once the verruca is gone the skin will be all the same colour texture and void of any black dots.

Oh op bravo Flowers that is a thing of BEAUTY!Grin To all the sporners, may your days be as pus-filled as possibleGrin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/08/2022 08:11

You still have them like the PP say, in my experience podiatrists are rubbish with verrucas, I had to point one out when I visited one.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/08/2022 10:06

We don’t have a treatment that consistently works @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and as a lot are asymptomatic we wouldn’t point them out.

Aggressive treatment can cause scar tissue which will form a corn every 4 weeks from when we remove it and corns are very painful. It’s a bad swap.

Benjispruce4 · 15/08/2022 10:09

In the 70s I remember we had a verrucca clinic at our GP surgeon. My DB and DSis were always in the chairs . There were several lined up.Mum would take them after school to get files and scraped etc. I was too young but I have vivid menudo the clinic and the wooden spatula/sticks in glass canisters.

Sorry, I feel as though I've insulted you, that wasn't my intention.

We were told there were no verrucas, then I pointed them out, they weren't hard to see.

Benjispruce4 · 15/08/2022 10:10

Funnily enough, said DSis is now a podiatrist! 😁
