I'm trying to get rid of a 10 year old verucca. I can't tell if it's going well or not. Wtf is going on! It hurts! I have a hole in my foot!!

It's all very well saying see a podiatrist but at 50 quid a time it's prohibitive to a lot of people.

Didn't want to say but yes just not feasible for us... Going to head to pharmacy this morning and get supplies!

If this surgery doesn't kill it for good, put duct tape over it! My decade old veruca was killed this way after numerous treatments/self surgery failed Grin

So glad I'm not the only person with a decade old one 🤣

It's black this morning not sure it that's good or bad!

Loved this thank you. I had one frozen when the GP did them. It was a mosaic one and suddenly I pulled it in the bath and the whole thing lifted out like coral. Do get a dressing and it might throb a bit to walk on.

I am both delighted and horrified by this thread. But more delighted. Well done OP, excellent persistence!

WooNoodle · 02/06/2022 07:53

Does it hurt to walk on?

Please tell your husband I think he's a legend and by the sounds of this thread I am not the only member of his fan club.

When my DS had a fairly meaty one on his foot, I filed it every night with a fresh nail file each night and then blasted it with the scholl pen. Took a few weeks to go but it did and never returned.

EducatingArti · 04/06/2022 16:53

Try bonjela to ease the pain a bit. It has lidocaine in it. It has worked on my sore toe where my nail split.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/06/2022 17:34

You can just buy lidocaine cream OTC.

VerifiedBot2351 · 04/06/2022 17:39

Wow that was something!

I used to do dry needling under local anaesthetic (ankle block) when I did private podiatry. I only do nhs now. It worked everytime even on a verruca 20 years old. It does cost 2-300 would it be possible to get a loan? It would be worth it. If not you have to be religious with treatment every single day for up to a year. File flat every three days and put the hardest sticiest tape you can find over it and keep going. It's works better long term than chemicals which can accumulate in your body.

Snorklette · 04/06/2022 17:58

My daughter had a vertical for about 3 years, getting bigger and spreading. Saw chirpodists, GP who all advised to cover it up. After months of covering, every over the counter and internet solution and ever increasing pain, I googled and found a treatment called Swift. Not convinced, we had a consultation with a Verucca Specialist (privately, but not covered by BUPA ). I was still leaning towards cutting it out. However, on examination he said a) her skin was incredibly fragile after covering it for so long and b) it would require a major surgery to remove it. In the end I opted for the Swift treatment. It was eye-wateringly expensive but three sessions did the trick and it went, never to return. So, overall, I would recommend as it was having such a massive impact on her life. I hope you will soon be free of the dreaded verucca, by whatever means you choose! 😊

Flipping heck that's expensive! Why so much? I used to have dry needling and it was £45 a session.

MsChatterbox · 05/06/2022 09:18

Nearly healed 🥳. Sooo ready to work on the one on the right but think will give it a few more days as those plasters are brutal!!

TeddyBeans · 05/06/2022 11:22

That's looking much better OP!

Gooseysgirl · 06/06/2022 14:19

Wow I can't believe the difference after just a few days, that's healing fast!!! Verruccas are utter bastards

smileyworld · 06/06/2022 19:15

You are (both) amazing!!!

MsChatterbox · 06/06/2022 21:30

Sorry guys no exciting core with the second one! Starting needling out the dead skin and it just came away. Not sure what's going on with the left hmm hopefully don't have to retreat it..

barneymcgroo · 06/06/2022 23:19

This is a top level follow up. Far too heavily invested.
Hope this one doesn't hurt too much, OP. Looks a lot less scary than the last. Hope it stays away for you.

TokenGinger · 06/06/2022 23:28

You are wonderful, OP. I love you for keeping us going with this. You are Sporner Corner Royalty.

Drbrowns · 06/06/2022 23:33

What did you use on it to get it to start to pop out like that? I have one on the ball of my foot that’s so painful. Two goes of cryotherapy on it and been treating it in between with glutarol and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

Obimumkinobi · 07/06/2022 00:19

I had a huge one for 5 years. Regular (and expensive) visits to chiropodist to burn it off/cut it down only gave temporary relief before it grew back again.

Tried banana skin, duct tape, needling, over the counter remedies, filing etc etc all of which made no difference at all. Doctor didn't take the pain seriously, so I insisted on a referral to podiatric surgeon. He said he could cut it out deeply but would mean 6 weeks on crutches no weight bearing. Plus, he said if the verruca can back along the scar, it would be worse than before, so I didn't want to risk it.

Amazingly, I mentioned it in passing to a consultant dermatologist at an unrelated appointment and he said he could laser it of. By this point I was in so much pain and unable to walk any distance, so I thought I had nothing to lose. The procedure was pain free, took less than 2 minutes and didn't even require a dressing. That day changed my life and was the best £100 I ever spent! Not cheap but I must have spent four times that visiting the chiropodist to no avail. No hole left, in fact not even a scar where it was.

People were really dismissive of the pain, saying you're immune system will sort it out, which it never did. Probably not helped by the fact I'd just had a baby. But lasers - who knew?!

Twillow · 07/06/2022 00:34

Aren't the little black spots verucca 'seeds'?
What are you treating it with?
I had 2 verucca patches for a decade, tried the tea tree, banana peel, duct tape etc. Nothing worked until I used the green bazooka RELIGIOUSLY, according to the instructions, like a ritual every night! It took 2 months but they are gone and haven't returned!
