OMG I have a ganglion cyst!

The cyst I have longed for all my life has finally appeared! It's on my inside wrist and getting bigger. I'm desperate to puncture it and squeeze the jelly stuff out but I looked up ganglions on inner wrists and they are usually right next to an artery.

So now it's just mocking me.

Husband has offered to whack it with a complete works of Charles Dickens but I'm still holding out for that jelly!

I had one on the back on my hand and bashing it with a big book did in fact make it go away!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/09/2021 10:08

You need to hit it with a big bible Grin

My sister had one and was all set to do the bible trick but fell at work and whacked her inner wrist on the floor and it got rid of it. So it does work!

Muchmorethan · 05/09/2021 20:01

Funnily enough I'm going to suggest that you don't whack it with a book!

I had one and showed a colleague (Surgical Consultant)... and he said he has seen far to many fractures caused by patients hitting them with a book!

ShellfishLove · 05/09/2021 20:08

This is hilarious…I have a ganglion cyst on my hand and when I googled it, the search kept predicting “hit with a book” and I was thinking WTF?! I had no idea this was a thing

TheCanyon · 05/09/2021 20:16

I've had one on my hand for 20 years. Saw a consultant about getting it removed but it's far too close to nerves and artery.

CaMePlaitPas · 05/09/2021 20:20

Ooh I have one of these! It appeared recently and I didn't know it could be squeezed...

Hellocatshome · 05/09/2021 20:24

You can't squeeze them really. You need to hit them with a big book or just leave it to eventually go away by itself. I had one on my wrist as a teenager which had to be removed as it was stopping me using my hand properly it was that big. I fainted when they put the local anaesthetic in and by the time I came round it was done so I didnt get to see anything.

My best friend at school had one. I used to squish it in chemistry lessons when we sat next to each other Grin

Longdistance · 05/09/2021 20:26

I’ve got one on top of my foot. It’s been there about 7 years. It’s got whacked, but isn’t going anywhere —the twat—

Belfastbird · 05/09/2021 20:30

I had one of these on my inner wrist - it was removed in hospital requiring an overnight stay about 40yrs ago - I still have the scar from the stitches!

sanityisamyth · 05/09/2021 20:51

I've got one on my ankle. Makes me feel sick if anything touches it 🤢

fedup078 · 05/09/2021 20:56

I smacked mine off the door frame and that got rid . I'd just had a friend go through surgery for one and i panicked

Pinkywoo · 05/09/2021 21:02

My boss had one on the side of her thumb, she accidentally whacked it with a rubber mallet while tapping a barrel (pub landlady) and it went away!

MyMabel · 05/09/2021 21:22

I had a huge one on the back of my wrist for years, it just got bigger and bigger and eventually people started asking what it was with the occasional ‘ugh, ew!’ - I went to the GP first to check it was a ganglion.. sure enough it was. Mine was sitting on a nerve that made it really painful to put any form of pressure on my hand. The GP said not to bash it with a book as it could just separate and turn into more than one 😂 she said the best thing to do if we want to pop it is to get someone to use two fingers and press very firmly to burst it. But that hurt and made me squeamish so I got my sister to whack it with a cook book. It was gone instantly, didn’t even see it drain she just hit it and it was gone 😂

MyMabel · 05/09/2021 21:25

It’s not called a bible bump for nothing, back in the day people used to use the bible to get rid because it was a good sized book to whack it with.

Mine ended up growing back a few years later and I just gave it a firm whack against and wall and popped it, hasn’t been back since.. touch wood it’s gone forever but I did have that nervy pain exactly where it grows the other day so I might not be so lucky.

grafittiartist · 05/09/2021 21:28

I have one that used to appear on my wrist. The book thing works.
But one day I landed on my hand sharply, with my hand at an angle, and felt it almost pop! Fingers crossed- it's not been back.

TatoAndBeans · 05/09/2021 21:42

Don’t do this (she uses a screwdriver Shock and especially given yours is near arteries etc) but this is glorious m.youtube.com/watch?v=rXclm661-RI

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 05/09/2021 22:58

Have none of you book bashers seen the episode of Doc Martin with just this scenario? You might want to think twice about it!

My mother had a ganglion and it required quite major surgery.

PatchworkElmer · 05/09/2021 23:02

I’ve got one on my wrist and am really self conscious about it 😔

I really want one of these now, I've got a lovely HP Lovecraft collection in hardback.

Cam001 · 05/09/2021 23:13

As a teenager I had one on the back of my wrist that grew quite large and caused pain if I put pressure on my hand, like getting out of the bath, so I had it removed under general anaesthetic. Then the bugger grew back as two bumps instead of one! I was conscious of it all the time. One evening I purposely got a bit drunk and smacked it against the tiles on the bathroom wall - it burst and was never seen again.
