Mumsnet users share how they relax when they have 10 minutes spare with Nintendo

For parents, little moments of relaxation can be few and far between, if they happen at all! Reaching the bottom of your never-ending to-do list is a good enough excuse for a little celebration to cherish the spare moment of having some me-time. With this in mind, Nintendo would like to hear how you relax when you have a few minutes to spare.

Here’s what Nintendo has to say: “It’s not easy to switch off when you’ve had a hectic day but it is important to spend some precious moments on yourself even if that means ten minutes with a cup of tea on the sofa. But what if you could spend those ten minutes escaping to a deserted island? Sit back and relax in a calming world that enjoys the slower pace of life whilst you build up your island however you want in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”

What do you do to relax when you have as little as 10 minutes to spare? Do you take the opportunity to have a quick power nap before you’re inevitably interrupted by your babbling toddler or disgruntled teenager? Perhaps you call your friend for a well needed gossip catch-up? Or maybe you pick up and dust off that book you bought months ago which you have never got around to reading?

Whether you go for a head-clearing walk, scroll through social media or play a quick video game, share on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I sit and have a cup of tea. With two toddlers in toe it's a treat to have a hot cup of tea!

buckley1983 · 15/11/2020 23:58

Love this thread.. so many cups of tea mentioned!!
When I have a spare 10 mins, I also love nothing more than a cup of tea, specifically Yorkshire Tea Biscuit Brew (soooooo good!), sit down on sofa with feet up (or in garden if weather nice) & take a few deep breaths enjoying the peace. The chaos soon resumes so you have to really make the most of these moments, restores us all to calm!

Sometimes i just sit on the toilet with the door shut where i know i wont be disturbed!!

Cosmos123 · 16/11/2020 20:55

Sometimee I blast my 80s music and dance like crazy.
Other times listen to an audio book
Or ring an old friend and have a good catch up.

Peruse my Amazon Wishlist and dream of owning nice things.

It depends how I am feeling - sometimes playing a game on my phone or a colouring app, browsing the internet, power nap, cup of tea, phone my Mum ❤️ Sometimes a 10 min power burst of cleaning which can be surprisingly relaxing!

I'm not just saying this because it's Nintendo asking, but literally every spare minute I have to myself is spent on Zelda BOTW, I'm absolutely addicted. That's the only thing that fully lets me escape my thoughts and get lost in a different world literally and metaphorically. I actually have noticed I have to take less morphine for my crumbling spine when I get a chance to play a lot of that because it relaxes me so much. So if you are reading this Nintendo, you are my heroes!

Hmumto3 · 17/11/2020 16:43

Netflix and chill Grin

wolfmom · 17/11/2020 17:47

Cup of tea and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp or New Leaf depending on whether my DS has vanished.

Serin · 17/11/2020 19:00

I teach the Laura Mitchell progressive relaxation technique (in the NHS) it's old but brilliant and very quick. I've got it down to 5 mins, with a whole 10 mins to play with I would be in a trance.Grin
You should make it into an app Nintendo. The world needs more relaxation right now.

Cup of coffee and Animal crossing New horizons .
Nothing better than collecting sea shells or maple leaves when you just want to chill out instead of what I used to do ,which was read the depressing news or the inane social media babble .

jcyclops · 17/11/2020 22:18

I pick up a puzzle mag and do a crossword or some other puzzle.

spottyrainbow · 17/11/2020 22:21

A cup of tea and, if the weather is agreeable, watching the antics of the birds on the feeders in the garden.

Donttouchmycoat · 18/11/2020 11:20

I love watching tutorials on cake decorating, embroidery, crocheting. Never seem to get the time to put what I've watched into practice though Hmm

Theshortone · 18/11/2020 12:15

I play puzzles and escape games on my phone 😊

Leeds2 · 18/11/2020 19:44

Cup of coffee, and Mumsnet.

Treaclepie19 · 19/11/2020 00:17

10 minutes reading my kindle with a cup of tea is bliss. Just enough to leave me feeling refreshed.

Laufeythejust · 19/11/2020 00:30

Mumsnet on my phone or Mario on my switch, I didn’t think I’d get into the switch but I’ve found it to be really good for picking up and playing when you haven’t got that much time as it picks back up from where you left it.

DitaFajitaJones · 23/11/2020 21:08

It is very rare that I have time to myself but when I do, I learn a bit of a song. I love to sing and used to have lessons. I haven't performed for a few years, but always sing when a song from my grandparents when I see them.
