Mumsnet users share how they relax when they have 10 minutes spare with Nintendo

For parents, little moments of relaxation can be few and far between, if they happen at all! Reaching the bottom of your never-ending to-do list is a good enough excuse for a little celebration to cherish the spare moment of having some me-time. With this in mind, Nintendo would like to hear how you relax when you have a few minutes to spare.

Here’s what Nintendo has to say: “It’s not easy to switch off when you’ve had a hectic day but it is important to spend some precious moments on yourself even if that means ten minutes with a cup of tea on the sofa. But what if you could spend those ten minutes escaping to a deserted island? Sit back and relax in a calming world that enjoys the slower pace of life whilst you build up your island however you want in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”

What do you do to relax when you have as little as 10 minutes to spare? Do you take the opportunity to have a quick power nap before you’re inevitably interrupted by your babbling toddler or disgruntled teenager? Perhaps you call your friend for a well needed gossip catch-up? Or maybe you pick up and dust off that book you bought months ago which you have never got around to reading?

Whether you go for a head-clearing walk, scroll through social media or play a quick video game, share on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Real coffee, homemade cake and ipad time.

TheAbominableSnowplop · 01/11/2020 17:49

Cuppa and a crossword. Heaven.

Mybabysmylife1 · 01/11/2020 17:53

I die for 10 minutes to myself a day. My children are a lot with being very close in age. (2&3) my 10 minutes are a cuppa tea and sit down close my eyes and breathe!! In a very quiet place I tell myself , you only have a couple more hours till bed Tim and then you'll have longer to relax! 😂

Summergarden · 01/11/2020 20:04

Either surf the net or read a book would be my choice.

FromTheAllotment · 01/11/2020 20:21

I breathe deeply using my stomach muscles and feel my blood pressure dropping. Doesn't even take 10 minutes, more like 20 seconds.

When my DD was a baby I remember someone once told me that something I'd previously taken for granted would be a luxury now. After no time at all I completely understood. Having a bath and shaving my legs were the top things I did for myself which felt like a relaxing 10 mins or so.

Now that DD is 12, I like to fit in internet browsing, Mumsnet or catching up on tv series I'm into.

NewtoHolland · 02/11/2020 03:30

A hot cup of tea!!
And a book or mumsnet!

Giraffey1 · 02/11/2020 11:15

A cup of tea and a chapter or two of a good book for me!

BabyDereksToes · 02/11/2020 11:46

I sit down with a warm drink and read my book or text a friend. It just sit and close my eyes while listening to a podcast.

iklboogeymum · 02/11/2020 12:41

I have an interior designer game on my tablet where I can fantasise my other life as a top designer to the stars.

MillieVanilla · 02/11/2020 15:20

I go for a walk.
Nowhere in particular, but there's nothing like a walk to clear the head and I find it relaxing. I try to do this at least a couple of times a week, not with a purpose like getting bits from the shop, just a walk.

catwithflowers · 03/11/2020 08:12

Usually a quick game on the iPad. I'm really into a game called Splendor at the moment. It's very addictive and does make my brain work a little as I try to outwit my virtual opponent to win the most precious jewels 💎 😂

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/11/2020 10:22

I do love Animal Crossing but have to say I wouldn't play it if I only had 10 mins! I wouldn't be able to put it down after 10 mins, it's a bit addictive!

More likely to have a couple of games of solitaire on my ipad.

EternalOptimist7 · 03/11/2020 11:26

I sit at the piano & improvise - would do it all day if I could

lovemyflipflops · 03/11/2020 11:56

I add more to my cross stitch. It really gives me some much needed down time.

I would like to say calming yoga or mindfulness meditation but reality is usually sitting down with a book and a cup of tea (and sometimes some really good chocolate!)

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 03/11/2020 15:38

Glad I’m not the only mindless internet scroller.
I like reading a book too but sometimes it’s hard to decide what to read.

Salamander91 · 03/11/2020 15:39

I have a coffee and go on facebook. Or I'll go on animal crossing and do my daily tasks Grin

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 03/11/2020 18:52

If I have 10 minutes to spare I read a bit of my book if I'm reading a good one. If I don't have my book or it's not that gripping, I'll probably check my emails on my phone, which always feels like a bit of a waste of time.

CompleteBarstool · 03/11/2020 19:50

If I'm out and about and maybe have time to spare before an appointment or pick-up I love nothing more than going for a coffee and people watching or scrolling through mumsnet or playing scrabble on my phone.

If I'm at home then a cuppa and my laptop or staring out of the window (we're blessed with an amazing far reaching view that I could spend hours enjoying)

Gemz82 · 03/11/2020 20:10

The only me time I got in those early newborn days was Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. I'm an avid console gamer but just didn't have the time until my daughter started sleeping through the night a few months ago! Now I have my evenings back, I'm either playing Paper Mario on the Switch, or working through my backlog of games on the PS4 with my husband. I also lost my job recently so Mario's helping me take my mind off that in between housework and job hunting!

Raindancer411 · 04/11/2020 04:58

My relaxation is spent doing a few minutes in the garden. It gives me some time to myself to think, get some fresh air and exercise and more importantly, spend time in nature.

SilkieRabbits · 04/11/2020 06:25

I'll have a cup of tea and often watch programmes about wildlife or holidays.

Pimmsypimms · 04/11/2020 07:15

A cup of tea and a scroll through Mumsnet
