Mumsnet users share how they relax when they have 10 minutes spare with Nintendo

For parents, little moments of relaxation can be few and far between, if they happen at all! Reaching the bottom of your never-ending to-do list is a good enough excuse for a little celebration to cherish the spare moment of having some me-time. With this in mind, Nintendo would like to hear how you relax when you have a few minutes to spare.

Here’s what Nintendo has to say: “It’s not easy to switch off when you’ve had a hectic day but it is important to spend some precious moments on yourself even if that means ten minutes with a cup of tea on the sofa. But what if you could spend those ten minutes escaping to a deserted island? Sit back and relax in a calming world that enjoys the slower pace of life whilst you build up your island however you want in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”

What do you do to relax when you have as little as 10 minutes to spare? Do you take the opportunity to have a quick power nap before you’re inevitably interrupted by your babbling toddler or disgruntled teenager? Perhaps you call your friend for a well needed gossip catch-up? Or maybe you pick up and dust off that book you bought months ago which you have never got around to reading?

Whether you go for a head-clearing walk, scroll through social media or play a quick video game, share on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I find a mindfulness body scan really beneficial at these times, I'm not really into the rest of mindfulness but the body scan helps me and when you've done it a few times you can start to do it in less time or in a waiting room etc if you are getting anxious

Motheratlast123 · 06/11/2020 15:08

For me, it's got to be Yoga. Just 10 minutes makes a huge impact.

Trinidading3 · 06/11/2020 17:59

Plate of Cream Crackers and Brie and Cup of Tea whilst watching the afternoon old movie on London Live, the ultimate 10 minute relaxation!!!Brew

fish88 · 06/11/2020 18:58

Read a bit of my current book. I like non-fiction in the day the fiction in the evening.

starlight36 · 06/11/2020 19:33

Cup of tea and browsing on my phone or flicking through a magazine

cobhamhall · 07/11/2020 09:52

10 minutes.....hmmmmm....usually that would be 1st thing in the morning...a quick stretch to get the blood flowing 😅

Rigbyroo · 07/11/2020 10:07

A coffee, nice smelling candle and an attempt to read my book or listen to a podcast.

RunningKatie · 07/11/2020 12:10

10 mins peace means a coffee, and if it's a sunny day then I'll sit on the garden bench with my book.
If it's a grey and miserable day then I'll probably hide upstairs reading my book or quietly pootling on the internet for a bit!

InFlagranteDerelicto · 07/11/2020 14:31

Cup of tea, I turn on an audiobook, & sit down with my eyes closed. If I'm tired I usually set an alarm so I don't accidentally fall asleep for too long...

jellybeanpopper · 07/11/2020 15:22

Browsing Mumsnet or reading the news on my phone.

Enough4me · 07/11/2020 16:37

Read the news, check emails, and see Mumsnet posts asking how I relax.

Elliebobtail · 08/11/2020 07:41

Hot chocolate and the internet or message friends.
If I am lucky to bet 20 mins during a nap time I tent to do some yoga Smile

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 08/11/2020 08:02

The problem with a lot of these replies, is usually you have a limited time like 10 minutes because you are out, waiting for someone/something. Thats when having a book on you at all times or a smart phone and websites to scroll works well.

Bez33 · 08/11/2020 15:52

Having a sit down and a biscuit (or 5!) is 10 minutes well spent for me!

mangothoughts · 08/11/2020 16:27

Sit down, close my eyes and imagine myself on that desert island beach with the waves lapping at my feet, a gentle breeze blowing and no cares in the world....

shrill · 08/11/2020 16:53

10 mins, relax watching the world go by.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 08/11/2020 18:01

Zelda Breath of the Wild - I'm obsessed but also not very good at fighting! I like wandering around doing side quests and solving shrine puzzles. I have managed to free one mechanical but have been sidetracked from the rest.

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 08/11/2020 18:08

Have a wander to the end of the garden to check everything is still where I left it. Any spare time I spend outside if I can. I do love a bit of Zelda too though, but I’m incapable of keeping that to ten minutes Grin

AllAboutHallowsEve · 08/11/2020 18:31

If it's just 10 mins, then nothing beats having a cup of tea and relaxing on the sofa...

A 10 min break to decompress during the working day makes a huge difference to my wellbeing.

Pulchra76 · 08/11/2020 18:54

I would whistle really, really loudly to a song, preferably a really fast song so I could challenge myself to keep up with it and aim to hit all the notes. Trouble is my whistling is terrible, in fact it’s dreadful, it would make dogs howl but I absolutely love doing it and this is what I would do to relax for ten minutes if I was alone!

HobNobAddict · 09/11/2020 09:15

when/if I get 10 minutes - I would make myself an indulgent hot chocolate with squirty cream and marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles - and pretend I am in a Costa x

TheQueenOfTheNight · 09/11/2020 11:16

With ten minutes I'd do something on my phone like browser the Internet.

If I had longer I'd read a book.

StickChildNumberTwo · 09/11/2020 13:14

In theory curl up with a book. In reality get distracted by stuff on my phone....

Tissima · 09/11/2020 13:42

Ten minutes? Candy Crush. Every time. Oh dear

sqirrelfriends · 09/11/2020 14:36

Make and drink a cup of tea while playing a game on my phone. Bliss
