Mumsnet users share how they relax when they have 10 minutes spare with Nintendo

For parents, little moments of relaxation can be few and far between, if they happen at all! Reaching the bottom of your never-ending to-do list is a good enough excuse for a little celebration to cherish the spare moment of having some me-time. With this in mind, Nintendo would like to hear how you relax when you have a few minutes to spare.

Here’s what Nintendo has to say: “It’s not easy to switch off when you’ve had a hectic day but it is important to spend some precious moments on yourself even if that means ten minutes with a cup of tea on the sofa. But what if you could spend those ten minutes escaping to a deserted island? Sit back and relax in a calming world that enjoys the slower pace of life whilst you build up your island however you want in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”

What do you do to relax when you have as little as 10 minutes to spare? Do you take the opportunity to have a quick power nap before you’re inevitably interrupted by your babbling toddler or disgruntled teenager? Perhaps you call your friend for a well needed gossip catch-up? Or maybe you pick up and dust off that book you bought months ago which you have never got around to reading?

Whether you go for a head-clearing walk, scroll through social media or play a quick video game, share on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Coffee, sit down, Mumsnet.

cravingmilkshake · 29/10/2020 20:41

I like to sit and try to read or just test my eyes and think of a time when this world wasn't so crazy!

Quincy69 · 29/10/2020 21:36

Studying Spanish at the moment, so any spare moment is spent on an app to try remember how to ask for directions to a tapas place in Barcelona Smile

DAC21 · 29/10/2020 21:59

Message a friend with nothing in particular, just to check in

RomaineCalm · 29/10/2020 22:19

I use the 5 minute 'Relax' setting on my Fitbit. Just doing that with some breathing exercises is enough to feel as if I've had a break.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 29/10/2020 22:45

Retreat to a blanketed sofa or bed, breathe in the silence, and normally treat myself to some form of sweet thing!

MrsMomoa · 29/10/2020 23:02

Start yet another new survival world in Minecraft Smile

I play Animal Crossing. Love it, I feel really chilled out catching up on my chores (unlike real life lol).

WildImaginings · 30/10/2020 00:25

Another vote for Animal Crossing! I find it so relaxing, the problem is 10 minutes goes by very quickly!

Pegase · 30/10/2020 07:06

Normally scrolling social media sadly. Or stroking the cats. Should pick up a book or magazine. My daughter is obsessed with Animal Crossing. I originally bought for me but never have both hands free to play it! The design allowing only one lead player in the game unless you have multiple, very expensive, Switch consoles is a very poor one though.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 30/10/2020 07:17

Coffee and internet. I’ll read the news, watch something on YouTube or go on mumsnet (then I realise my 10 mins turned into 30...)

mshell1231 · 30/10/2020 07:30

10 minutes relaxing to me is a cup of tea and a look through Facebook or Mumsnet. Grin

Gin4thewin · 30/10/2020 07:46

10 minutes, gets me a coffee and screen time OR im running around trying to squeeze those jobs in i need to do

ButterflyOfFreedom · 30/10/2020 08:05

Usually grab a cuppa and mess around on my phone for a bit (mumsnet, Facebook, emails etc). Or I read my book - I prefer this so definitely should do this more!

If I had a spare 30 mins then I'd probably go on Animal Crossing. Our family has an island we share and I'm in charge of flower breeding! If only 10 mins then I'd probably get cross over on Twitter.

TerrifyingTart · 30/10/2020 09:19

Have a wank and a cup of tea

kateandme · 30/10/2020 11:11

ooptions are mindfullness
tea and a book
just sit and stare if its been one of those days

CaterwaulingPeasant · 30/10/2020 12:40

If 10mins is all I have I usually do something (tidy/clean/dishes/sort laundry) because 10mins isn’t (to me) worth sitting down for.

Doing a few smaller tasks in that 10mins might free up a whole half hour later in the day when I could properly sit down with a cup of tea & read the news/MN or pet the cats or like kate just sit & be for a bit.

I’m quite precious about time reading books - has to be at least an hour free whole afternoon preferably

I do have tetris type games on my phone which, if I’m waiting somewhere that I can’t do some tasks, I’ll pull up but equally I might just daydream to give myself a break from the whole world by retreating into myself for a bit.

Theimpossiblegirl · 30/10/2020 13:11

10 minutes isn't long so a cup of coffee and a bit of phone surfing would be my go-to. A bit longer and I'd do a dog walk or go for a run.

LassoOfTruth · 30/10/2020 13:17

I don’t think I can relax anymore! If I have 20 minutes or more I’ll pick up my book or my knitting but if it’s only 10 minutes I’m currently obsessed with a colouring game on my phone. I’m Irish so there’s always a cup of tea involved 😀

Asuwere · 30/10/2020 14:24

Less than 10mins, then I usually browse mumsnet, any longer and I'll read or crochet.

D00MGL00M · 30/10/2020 16:57

Animal crossing. If I have ten mins I'll hit my rocks, and find the daily visitor. if I have a bit longer I'll shake my fruit and stuff.

Every day since launch. Sometimes in small ten chunks by myself, sometimes a an hour or two (or more) whith teen or other adult friends.

Takeitonthechin · 30/10/2020 18:28

With a cuppa and probably making a list of either shopping or things to do x

MiddleEasternMummy · 30/10/2020 19:30

Get my mat out and do a yoga warm up or if I'm feeling a little tired have a latte and listen to my favourite music whilst reading Mumsnet of course !
