With lockdown rules still in place, we have turned our homes and gardens into a playground to help our children stay active by playing inside. With many of us juggling work and keeping children active, we know that finding fun ways to entertain your children and channel their energy in creative play can be a challenge.
That’s why Nike, in partnership with ukactive Kids, has launched the Move Crew - daily activity missions, designed to help kids unlock their 60 minutes of daily recommended activity.

Here’s what Nike says:
'Move Crew is a daily programme developed with the expertise of teachers and physical activity specialists, elite athletes, kids and coaches. Each day delivers a new mission, designed to get kids aged 7-12 on their feet. Across 8-weeks, each Monday, a Nike athlete announces a weekly theme at ukactive.com/movecrew, and every morning, the new Mission is released. One of our athletes Dina Asher-Smith, the fastest British woman in recorded history said: “As an athlete, mixing it up and giving myself daily challenges is the best way to stay motivated. I’m so excited to have got to work with ukactive and Nike to inspire young boys and girls to keep moving at home.'

With that in mind, we want to find out more about the ways you and your children are staying active. How are you and your children staying active at home? Do your children have favourite activities? Perhaps you and your family have invented games to keep active? What do you miss most about playing outside with more freedom? What are the biggest challenges you face when trying to find fun or educational activities for your children?

From indoor fort building to garden relay, share your stories of keeping your children and family active during the lockdown on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list), provided by Mumsnet.

Thanks and good luck,

We are so lucky! We have a forest at the back of house that our children play in, they have built dens, played hide and seek and we have even bought them a tight rope to walk across! Such happy memories!

Strava segments and crowns. Competition is a brilliant motivator.

We have identified all of the strava segments in out local area and my daughter is seeing how many leaderboards she can get a place on and how many crowns she can take. Running faster than adults/boys or even to beat her own PB is a brilliant motivator.

We walk in the local woods several times a week. The thing my toddler likes most at the moment is to dance so we just put on some music and do lots of dancing.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 19/06/2020 17:45

Getting out in the garden every day, they are enjoying setting up obstacle courses and some are more like circuit training with x amount of star jumps, hop to the and back, skip x amount of time, jump to there etc

flowersfromheaven · 20/06/2020 16:24

I am still working because I am a key worker but on my days off I always put the radio on and we dance around the house whilst tiding up, but my favourite is playing catch were I chase and try catching them in the garden and when I do it's there turn it's lots of fun especially when I tickle them when I have caught them.

ChaoticCatling · 20/06/2020 20:11

Walking to a local pub, now corner shop, for locally produced foods at the weekend, just a lot of walking in general as we have had mostly lovely weather. My child is in school under the keyworker provision so they are walking to and from school and doing an hour of PE every weekday.

Alo2019 · 22/06/2020 14:36

We have been doing joe wicks exercise every morning since the start of lockdown as it’s important to keep my kids routine of being fit x

LITTLEMUTLEY23 · 23/06/2020 20:47

We have made a giant obstacle course in the garden out of cardboard boxes and chairs etc.

indecisivewoman81 · 24/06/2020 21:26

Walking in the woods, cycling, we put a wooden swing up in the woods to play on. We even created a "sports day event" in our garden complete with egg and spoon race and the three legged race

Hopezibah · 25/06/2020 14:52

At the start of lockdown we had a little bit of a sort out of garden toys and made sure that things were accessible rather than out of reach or locked away in the garage. So now the kids have a crate of items by the back door that they can take into the garden and get active. These include ribbons for movement and dancing, a skipping rope, a couple of soft balls for throwing and catching and some bean bags. They love to make their own obstacle courses in the garden that we all join in with - with extra rules like hopping on one leg or going over and under various obstacles. We also bought a new hula hoop as having something new can help keep interest levels up.

Failing all else, blowing bubbles and catching them in the garden is always good fun and gets us moving!

Joe Wicks!!

And Ote's CBeebies dance show.

And cosmic yoga.

Don't know what we'd do without them!!

When I've not been at work during lockdown.. my inclination has been to try & sit down.. but does my 7 year old let me?! No he does not!
He is on me like a very strict, yet hilarious, personal trainer - pulling me up off my bottom & out into the garden where I am required to compete in a variety of races - hopping, jumping, backwards running.. I'm sure it gives the neighbours a good laugh & it is really fun!
He has also invented a game called 'winklepip' which is basically tag, but you shout winklepip! when you get someone. Variants of the game include hide & seek winklepip (self-explanatory) & blind winklepip - where the person who has winklepip has to be blindfolded & try to catch the others.. hilarity often ensues!
Whenever I feel myself start to inwardly groan because I really want a rest.. I remind myself that he won't be like this forever so I need to make the most of it!!

Mayflower400 · 27/06/2020 09:54

We try to get out for a walk every day. We also enjoy go noodle dance routines.

UnicornsForLife · 27/06/2020 13:54

We like to do an online yoga class. My dd also goes on the trampoline. I have started doing an on-line zumba class I'm hoping to get my dd to join in.

Angiemum24 · 28/06/2020 12:33

1.Local walks in national parks (become members it’s so much cheaper)
2.If you have a garden have some garden toys. Kids never tire of the garden. Make obstacle courses with hoops and toilet paper tubes.
3.Cosmic yoga on YouTube is fantastic. They also tell a story.
Also Joe wicks P.E on YouTube.
4.set up a zoom meeting with the kids from school or friends they are missing and have a virtual sports day. Great fun.

Also Family bike rides Are fantastic.

Smile13 · 28/06/2020 19:50

My youngest had learnt to ride a bike so we’ve been riding and jogging around our local area. We are lucky that we have a park close by so take a bag of games to play with; football, a basketball, a frisbee and a rounders bat. We have family races in the park. My daughter has a Fitbit so we can keep track of her activity.

Angelfaced · 28/06/2020 20:40

We are keeping active by doing lots of walking, yoga, cycling and playing in the garden - my eldest loves cycling so I've encouraged that as his daily exercise and he also has some small weights in his room too. We get out daily as I think our physical health has never been as important it is now.

Walking every afternoon with the dog. Sometimes we take a picnic and usually go along a river spotting wildlife.

Sleepybumble · 29/06/2020 23:58

We take a walk daily. Sometimes breaking it up with a picnic. Some days the 4year old needs a bit of a bribe so we will have a jelly baby at any stiles. She's also learning to ride a bike so hopefully we'll be going on bike rides soon

PhotoFinder · 30/06/2020 12:59

We always go out in the garden, rain or shine for a run around or a game of football (as best you can with a 2 year old).

We have a nice woodland area that we like to walk to every other day and we spent some time every morning doing some exercises.

CrocodileFondue · 01/07/2020 00:01

I take my DS out daily for a walk/run/scoot. Little kids are like dogs, they need exercise whatever the weather.

Possiblywickedandlazy · 01/07/2020 15:29

So many long walks. We’ve discovered places we never knew existed despite living in the area for over 10 years.

Stej7 · 01/07/2020 22:15

We have loved making adventures, exploring the outdoors near where we live. This has included countryside rambles, stream walking, scooter trails, cycling and tree climbing.

Carriecakes80 · 01/07/2020 23:35

We go in fits and starts lol, just like always really!
We are lucky to have some beautiful canal walks and woods and fields behind our house, and on a good day, its easy to grab the dog and walk for a long old while without bumping into a single person.
On a rainy day though, its like a quagmire round us, and its hard to get anywhere without being in the car, so we then try to get the kids active by putting on some loud music and cleaning!
Oooh and the trampoline has been a godsend, although it does send our poor dog barmy when the kids are all playing together on it and he can't get up and join in! lol

We alternate PE with Joe and Our Kids CrossFit WOD’s during the week. We had daily walks in the woods or by the river and used our heads for exercise (throwing balls at sticky hats & knocking over bottles with a ball in tights on our heads)
