With lockdown rules still in place, we have turned our homes and gardens into a playground to help our children stay active by playing inside. With many of us juggling work and keeping children active, we know that finding fun ways to entertain your children and channel their energy in creative play can be a challenge.
That’s why Nike, in partnership with ukactive Kids, has launched the Move Crew - daily activity missions, designed to help kids unlock their 60 minutes of daily recommended activity.

Here’s what Nike says:
'Move Crew is a daily programme developed with the expertise of teachers and physical activity specialists, elite athletes, kids and coaches. Each day delivers a new mission, designed to get kids aged 7-12 on their feet. Across 8-weeks, each Monday, a Nike athlete announces a weekly theme at ukactive.com/movecrew, and every morning, the new Mission is released. One of our athletes Dina Asher-Smith, the fastest British woman in recorded history said: “As an athlete, mixing it up and giving myself daily challenges is the best way to stay motivated. I’m so excited to have got to work with ukactive and Nike to inspire young boys and girls to keep moving at home.'

With that in mind, we want to find out more about the ways you and your children are staying active. How are you and your children staying active at home? Do your children have favourite activities? Perhaps you and your family have invented games to keep active? What do you miss most about playing outside with more freedom? What are the biggest challenges you face when trying to find fun or educational activities for your children?

From indoor fort building to garden relay, share your stories of keeping your children and family active during the lockdown on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list), provided by Mumsnet.

Thanks and good luck,

We walk around the neighborhood until we have reached 5000 steps. Then we head home usually for a treat afterwards. Also I have bought them scooters which they love of we go on a long walk they dont complain as much because of the scooters.

pushchairprincess · 13/06/2020 13:05

I got the 13 foot trampoline and enclosure out of the shed - and threw in some balls - the children have spend hours singing songs to jumps, jumped and tried to catch - just 'zip em in' and watch them play - it's been a lifesaver in lockdown.

Rubbleonthedouble1 · 13/06/2020 14:44

Trampolining, going on bikes and scooters, running races and cosmic kids yoga

Ironmanrocks · 13/06/2020 14:52

We walk the dog everyday. Luckily we live near woodland/tracks and are able to get out a lot. We hardly see anyone. We now let the dog choose the way, so we wait at every junction until she has chosen....the walk is long or short depending on her! We drew an activity trail on a concrete track and made our neighbours do it. We did it every day until it washed off. My child then competes against me doing joe wicks style workout - though that kills me. He chooses each exercise based on things he learned from school. He's then on the trampoline, does mountain biking and road biking with daddy and we play swing ball. We even practised hockey down the track. We both really miss swimming though...I practise whilst walking and he practises in the bath!!! He is 10!!😂

Stargirl84 · 13/06/2020 16:20

Andy’s Workout on CBeebies, walking in the woods, trampoline in the garden, cycling, obstacle courses indoors, if all else fails put on the Hey Duggee stick song and dance about to that.

Butterfly44 · 13/06/2020 16:45

Daily walks, cycling and trampolining!!

RunningKatie · 13/06/2020 21:01

Our dc will only do PE with Joe if I do it too. They manage the SuperMovers 2mins on BBC Bitesize.
They both got activity trackers for Christmas so that's helped to keep them moving. Youngest dc definitely moves most. Today he's planned a sports day for us which was fun!
We do Cosmic Yoga too and daily walks.
Youngest has also broken his leg and given himself concussion over lockdown thanks to a bike accident so I'm a bit more cautious about that currently!
I wish we had a trampoline and/or a basketball net. However we don't necessarily have the space!

blackleggingsandatshirt · 14/06/2020 09:17

All of the ride on toys in the gated driveway, and I've made a coned 'motorway' for them to ride around, with pit-stops, refilling areas (good old amazon for the.boxes) - this was another days activity decorating our boxes - the trampoline with net is out also - I am just so thankful that the weather has been with us for the majority of the lockdown

ButterflyOfFreedom · 14/06/2020 12:52

We make sure we go out every day whatever the weather.
Usually a long walk but also on bikes & scooters.
We've done some online exercises too like Joe Wicks & Cosmic Yoga.
We are lucky we have a garden too which is big enough to play football, swingball etc.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 15/06/2020 00:11

Modelling by exercising myself and normalising this as something we just do. Lots of silly dancing and races and assault courses inside, daily walks and attempts at “runs” - at least in bursts!

Nquartz · 15/06/2020 10:28

A walk or bike ride every week day, usually about 30 mins then a longer walk/ride at weekends, usually up to 2 hours.

On rainy days we do kid's work out or yoga videos on YouTube

mamamemmmer · 15/06/2020 14:39

Myself and my family are all shielded - so we have been home since 17th March (yikes) - we have a crazy 1 year old who is two in July and we're expecting baby number 2 in October.

To keep ourselves busy and active we have given the garden life, creating a play space area for our toddler to play in the sand, her paddling pool, slide other toys and most recently a trampoline.

Luckily we are now able to go on walks - as we live in the countryside, so we go on nature walks and take the dogs for runs on the fields.

We have also been active indoors helping change some things around at home and get ready for our newest family member.

lolly2010 · 15/06/2020 15:13

Walks in the park, flying kites, riding bikes, building dens in the garden, movie under the stars, star gazing, gardening.

theAntsareMyFriends · 15/06/2020 21:19

Weve done long walks exploring our local nature areas and the kids have loved it. They are never still, running back and forth, making up stories and spotting things as we go. Even the baby gets a lot out of it as he loves looking around from his carrier.

Outdoor active learning has worked well for us and we've covered a lot of the curriculum out in our garden.

My oldest DS and DP go for bike rides which has been a great way to give us a break from each other for a bit.

Montydoo · 16/06/2020 10:35

the bottom of the garden had been turned into a mini allotment - we have peas, mange tout (who knew how tasty they are raw !!) we have planted potatoes - it's so lovely that the children love to watch things grow, eat raw vegetable, measure how quick they are growing, watching the bees popping in and out of the flowers. - then the usual walks, bikes and outdoor toys out (sunscreen applied)

starlight36 · 16/06/2020 11:57

As lockdown has continued we have had to vary the exercise to keep it interesting. Initially we were doing lots of Joe Wicks but the kids were doing it daily and got a little bored of it. We then started doing some of the Oti kids dances on alternate days to mix it up a bit. On sunnier days these have been swamped for races around the garden or impromptu swing ball championships or hula hoop challenges. I think the home schooling is all quite similar exercises each week that trying to make the exercise structured as well was getting too much.

minceandpotatoes · 16/06/2020 21:21

PE with Joe Wicks, walks to a local pond, and putting on upbeat music for fun dance sessions.

sparklesandglitter · 16/06/2020 22:51

Dance lessons, playing in the garden, gymnastics and cheerleading, playing in the garden, horse riding, football, we are very lucky to have the facilities that we do

jan9876 · 17/06/2020 07:16

Not doing Joe Wicks. Mostly we hop on the trampoline (myself included) and thats about it apart from cycling/ walking 2-3 times a week.

CakeCakeCake21 · 17/06/2020 12:28

It is really hard to get my kids outside and exercising; they like team sports, swimming, cycling, Park Run, but are hugely lacking motivation right now. They make faces and moan at the thought of a walk for the sake of walking. They like cycling but I have a dodgy knee and can't take them out on really long bike rides or up hills. Our garden is not big enough for them to get up to much - they were skipping a lot at the beginning of lockdown but have stopped now. I like some of the ideas here, and will be trying them, but it is finding the headspace to think up ideas that is hard. DS1's school is having a virtual "sports week" to replace sports day and I am hoping the competitive element will inspire him.

malaguena · 17/06/2020 19:13

I have to admit PE with Joe has been q godsent. My kids love having that routine in the morning, although we don't do it every single day. We also do yoga videos altogether and things like Sticky kids are fun for younger children. Apart from that, we go for a long walk a few times a week and they go cycling with their dad. I would love to play tennis with them, if I manage to rent a court.

flowerpower32 · 18/06/2020 06:42

Trampoline! That and bike rides although we are getting a little tired onthe local quiet route! Oh and skipping.

feejee · 18/06/2020 09:30

We go on regular walks along the cycle track nearby, or walk round the lakes in our village. It is beautiful. Weve helped our son learn to ride his bigger bike and he loves to go round the lakes on it. School also include a movement activity in their home learning timetable everyday, super movers, PE with Joe, cosmic yoga etc.

Bloatstoat · 18/06/2020 15:16

My children are younger, 4 and 1 and the little one started walking during lockdown. We really miss playgrounds! We have a garden but it's quite small and we moved in not long before lockdown so we don't have anything like a climbing frame or trampoline yet. We walk to the park with DC1 on his scooter most days and they also both enjoy dancing videos on YouTube, as well as Oti's Cebeebies dance programme.

10milewalk · 18/06/2020 18:48

We have been busy growing fruit and veggies on our allotment most days, it's been good workout and great for out mental health too.
