With lockdown rules still in place, we have turned our homes and gardens into a playground to help our children stay active by playing inside. With many of us juggling work and keeping children active, we know that finding fun ways to entertain your children and channel their energy in creative play can be a challenge.
That’s why Nike, in partnership with ukactive Kids, has launched the Move Crew - daily activity missions, designed to help kids unlock their 60 minutes of daily recommended activity.

Here’s what Nike says:
'Move Crew is a daily programme developed with the expertise of teachers and physical activity specialists, elite athletes, kids and coaches. Each day delivers a new mission, designed to get kids aged 7-12 on their feet. Across 8-weeks, each Monday, a Nike athlete announces a weekly theme at ukactive.com/movecrew, and every morning, the new Mission is released. One of our athletes Dina Asher-Smith, the fastest British woman in recorded history said: “As an athlete, mixing it up and giving myself daily challenges is the best way to stay motivated. I’m so excited to have got to work with ukactive and Nike to inspire young boys and girls to keep moving at home.'

With that in mind, we want to find out more about the ways you and your children are staying active. How are you and your children staying active at home? Do your children have favourite activities? Perhaps you and your family have invented games to keep active? What do you miss most about playing outside with more freedom? What are the biggest challenges you face when trying to find fun or educational activities for your children?

From indoor fort building to garden relay, share your stories of keeping your children and family active during the lockdown on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list), provided by Mumsnet.

Thanks and good luck,

My 2 are on their scooters every day - my son's hadn't seen the light of day for over a year before lockdown and we've bought my daughter a new stunt scooter, as a wheel came off her old one. We've also been doing a couple of family bike rides a week - the kids (7 & 12) are quite happy to do 8 miles now. We live opposite a small park, so when I go for a walk, they usually join me on foot or on the scooters again!

We have been for a walk every day usually including up a hill, a bit of cycling, the trampoline in the garden has seen a lot of use and also lots of jumping around on space hoppers - which is harder than it looks, I have found. The kids are also thrilled to find that Go Ape is opening from 4 July, they can't wait to get amongst the treetops - neither can I!

We have discovered some interesting walks, unbelievably beautiful with the spring flowers especially Rhododendrons, ponds, ducks and gees. It is not far from home too. My teenagers were initially not much into it, as we were not used to usual walks in our usual busy lifestyle, although it is something we always loved to do. Now the children are also used to it and has become part of our weekly activity.

God bless Joe Wicks! We do the work out and try to get out for a daily walk. Littlest joins in with my online dance class and my eldest has enjoyed doing zombies run on the treadmill

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 04/06/2020 19:39

We have tried to do an hours exercise as part of our routine everyday and we have made it fun. We have been for walks and scooter rides, bike rides and runs. We walked around looking for pebble art.
It’s been good for me as well as my children and it’s good for our mental and physical health. It’s also nice to wave over at other families doing the same thing.

Our trampoline is being used throughout the day, I feel sorry for the neighbours as it squeaks really loudly! The garden is being used a lot in general, with the swing, slide, scooters and bikes.
We tried online videos like Joe Wicks and Cosmic Kids yoga, various dances, but it didn't hold their interest like playing outside does.

susanB86 · 04/06/2020 22:49

We bought some games on Nintendo to get them to do exercise. It was actually quite fun. I even did more exercise than ever!

Goldenrain · 05/06/2020 09:08

We go for walks and have discovered some intersting places very close to home. My teenage children were not much into wilderness at the beginning, but now they enjoy. It's amazing with spring flowers specially the beautiful Rhododendron full in bloom and also the ponds, ducks and the gees.

Please come and tell me how I keep a badly depressed 8 year old motivated when he's gone from playing football 6 days a week to nothing whilst still holding down a full time job at home? Love to hear it.

Or we could just, ya know, open the playgrounds rather than just golf and fishing.

Coronapip · 05/06/2020 17:29

Cycling!! ( Wearing our Nikes, of course) :)

Scottieboi32 · 05/06/2020 18:03

We have all got involved in painting and decorating around the house, doing bits high and low, whatever we can reach Smile
On rest time we have enjoyed the sunshine and had several bbq’s, so that has helped us relax and recover! Wine Take care all and stay safe all!

I have teenage DDs so the need for exercise/time away from screens/fresh air is key. We go for a walk after tea every evening - the warm weather has made it feel a bit holiday-like to be going out for a walk at 8pm, but its lovely. Chance to chat, stretch out, breathe deeply. Work is overwhelming right now for my husband and I, so its a good part of keeping ourselves well too. The children play badminton in the garden, and bounce the netball into the hoop, and one does online zumba, but that's about it. I do very little but (in defence) am working on average 14 hour days so there feels very little time or energy for it. I am trying not to feel guilty about it.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 06/06/2020 09:50

When the weather was warm & dry is was much easier to be active. We went for a long walk every day as well as playing in the garden (football, trampoline etc). We also went out on bikes & scooters.
It's rained the last few days so all that has gone out of the window! So it's harder now. I guess we will still go for some walks but theyll be shorter.
Maybe looking at online exercises & activities is the way to go...

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 06/06/2020 11:26

They have PE every day including weekends, set by school.

al1979 · 06/06/2020 11:51

We don't have a garden or a balcony so we do a 5km run at least once a week and we do yoga in the park most days.

PashleyB · 06/06/2020 12:41

We have spent time cycling together and found places that we can go for walks as a family that are not too crowded. We have also done more to play games like cricket together as a family.

NeverTwerkNaked · 06/06/2020 17:06

When it is sunny it feels easy - bike rides, scoots, football and trampolining and the paddling pool
But the rain has made it harder. Sometimes we resort to a walk in the rain but other ideas we have done include playing hide and seek/sardines which at least gets everyone up and moving.
Two of the children are also still doing their dance classes over zoom which helps.

sjonlegs · 06/06/2020 19:14

Tennis, yoga, gymnastics, running, pull ups, weight training, wood walks .... most of which with the dog in tow! Grin

Trampoline in the garden, 7 or 10 minute you tube workouts, cosmic yoga, joe wicks, daily walks. Mixing it up has been key to ensure they enjoy being active. Scooters and bikes have helped and nice weather meant long walks along our local beach.

OhioOhioOhio · 07/06/2020 10:23

Walking around the woods.

Ashhead24 · 08/06/2020 08:05

DC love being in the garden so that's been good. We've also done a few Andy's wild work outs and some online gymnastics classes. But at 4 and 2 it's hard to get them motivated. And going out for walks with them is difficult as 2 year old hates the pram and walks so slowly which annoys the 4 year old. They both really miss being able to go swimming and doing classes with kids their own ages.

heymammy · 08/06/2020 22:52

We have a trampoline and climbing frame in the garden so these have been getting used a lot, we do Pokémon Go to get out for a walk most days and ds leaps around the furniture practising parkour whenever he gets restless!

PickledChicory · 09/06/2020 00:40

We go out a few times a day as have dogs. We live in a rural area so there are woods and riverside walks on our door step. DC1 has been doing gymnastics climbing from trees and hanging off them. DC2 needs fresh air and exercise to channel endless energy. DC3 still v little but loves being outdoors. DC1 has learned to ride a bike. There has been a major role reversal with dogs and kids. The kids are now running around and doubling back at top speed and the dogs are shattered.

MumMumMummyMumMum · 09/06/2020 04:08

I just chase my DC around the house with their home-schoolwork for an hour a day, then make them chase me for the broadband router for an hour. We're fitter than ever 💪

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 09/06/2020 14:05

Lots of walks. We're very lucky to have lots of countryside and the coast path around us.
I've been doing the Joe Wicks workout with DD1 most days, but the younger two aren't interested at all.
If we had a garden, I'm sure they'd run around in and out of the house all day at home. When we only had the chance to exercise outside once a day they had to make the most of it so we managed some really good walks.
