This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories below.

We've all experienced that sinking feeling when you open the washing machine door and realise all is not as it should be, which is why Cushelle have created new Facial Tissues - designed to not fall apart in the wash. Beyond just a rogue tissue, Cushelle want to know - what's accidentally made it into your machine and ruined the whole load?

Here’s what Cushelle has to say: “Cushelle, the irresistibly cushiony soft toilet tissue brand, has launched facial tissues for colds, hay fever and messy kids! Cushelle Facial Tissues are soft, strong and also washing machine resistant, meaning they won’t break up in the wash if accidentally left in a pocket.”

Have you realised a phone or wallet was inside the machine when it was too late because of unemptied pockets? Or maybe you’ve followed cliche and accidentally washed a new red shirt along with the whites, leaving you embracing a new found love for pink? Whether it was some spare change, a felt tip pen, or your monthly train ticket that ended up in your wash, Cushelle want to hear your stories below.

All who share their stories on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

xQueenMabx · 26/02/2020 19:05

Watches. Seriously, Ive done it 3 times and I have no idea how.

Fluffybunnywunny · 26/02/2020 19:35

I used to think it was a good idea to carry my phone down on top of the washing in the wash basket. Needless to say, I don't do that anymore after I accidentally put my phone through the wash as well! I realised about 2 mins after the door locked and the barrel started to go round!

My husband once dumped a pile of towels he used during lambing (think blood, birthing fluid etc) into a white wash that I had ready to go on. I unknowingly put the wash on and found out once the wash was over. Everything ruined. Nearly ended in divorce 😂

A black permanent marker with my best 3 work blouses!

Annak789 · 26/02/2020 19:45

It’s got to be a pen that leaked all over the clothes Shock

Just the usual of toys, tissues oh and my son tried to put our puppy in with the wash but luckily I'm always there to supervise lol

tobypercy · 26/02/2020 20:04

red & white striped pyjamas when I was a student , couldn't work out whether to put them in with the colours or whites. Whites was the wrong answer, my work shirt ended up streaky pink. I bleached the work shirt and the logo faded from navy to grey-green, so I told everyone I was in a top secret branch of the company!

My oh watch...

clippityclop · 26/02/2020 20:31

My very first thread on Mumsnet was to ask how to clean my tumble dryer after a red candle went through the wash! Lots of lovely help poured in and I was able to sort out the mess and make it look like new again

I occasionally put my watch under my pillow at night. Couldn't find it one time - it had found its way inside the pillowcase and from there to the washing machine. Then there was the time I very carefully washed a cashmere jumper on handwash / wool setting, low temperature etc and it came out lovely and fresh. However, the fibres it shed blocked the out pipe (eventually) and I needed a new washing machine soon after :'(

While I was living with my sister she got a new machine, was very excited to try it out, and started with a blanket. It was a chenille type thing and it sort of turned to wallpaper paste and blocked all the pipes.

We thought OH had lost the remote control for the garage door for the umpteenth time.
I later found out that he had left it the pocket of his track suit bottoms and washed it for an hour on a 40 degree cycle. Boy was I cross! At that time, a replacement cost £90, and he has no job!

My gorgeous mohair sweater slipped in the wash by mistake and when it came out it was sooo small. Lesson learnt, I check through each wash carefully now (so far,so good)!

emmav6 · 26/02/2020 22:00

i managed to ash all my notes i made for my new job so it felt like i had to learn all my 1st week of jobs all over again!

Cailin7 · 26/02/2020 22:56

my favourite cardigan which I handwash only got put in a 40 wash by DH and ruined. says it was an accident but me thinks it was deliberate to get out of doing wash ever again.

our DS left a bank card in his trouser pocket. do not know how I missed it as I always check the pockets. after a wash and tumble it did not work.

if the tissues stay intact in the wash are they therefore bad for environment and not flushable?

Tortiepops · 26/02/2020 23:07

Too many lovely vintage brooches have been through the wash, pinned to cardigans. It's always so upsetting, but somehow I keep making the same mistake.

angela25rose · 26/02/2020 23:21

One of my twin boys left a coin in there trousers it created a hole in the drum of the washing machine which then flooded the neighbour downstairs the water was coming towards the kitchen door the boys ran and got there wellies and started jumping up and down in the puddle I had to calm my boys down and face a very upset neighbour!

JohnHoolan · 26/02/2020 23:23

Our entire spending money for our honeymoon in £20 notes. The utter horror of realising and trying to peel them apart without tearing them! It gives me palpitations just remembering!

PickAChew · 27/02/2020 00:09

Dh's watch. The screen splintered and the shards shredded loads of stuff.

Sissymate2 · 27/02/2020 03:14

Lots and lots of tissues as my mother loves to stuff them in the cuff of her sleeve so they'll be handy.

A tube of lip balm that melted all over the dark clothes so they looked like they had wet spots all over them.
Several red lipsticks
And I love for my family to leave money in their pockets then put the clothes in the wash because I've warned them that I get to keep any money I find....I'm getting quite rich!Grin

Lisapaige24 · 27/02/2020 06:08

Most Disastrous thing to end up in the wash was one of the kids passports the day before we was going on holiday I had gotten all of them out ready and checked them all and had left them on the top to be put in my bag then went about finishing off the cleaning and washing so everywhere was tidy for when we got back off holiday only I hadn’t realised I knocked one of them into the washing pile and put it in the wash with the laundry only when I got the washing out to go in the tumble dryer was I horrified that it was my babies passport then can the mad dash of trying to get a new one and frantic phone calls had to send hubby and other children off on holiday without us then join them two days later at a great expense but my little bubba was so excited about going on his first holiday he was only two and it was Florida so couldn’t exactly not take him
