This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories below.

We've all experienced that sinking feeling when you open the washing machine door and realise all is not as it should be, which is why Cushelle have created new Facial Tissues - designed to not fall apart in the wash. Beyond just a rogue tissue, Cushelle want to know - what's accidentally made it into your machine and ruined the whole load?

Here’s what Cushelle has to say: “Cushelle, the irresistibly cushiony soft toilet tissue brand, has launched facial tissues for colds, hay fever and messy kids! Cushelle Facial Tissues are soft, strong and also washing machine resistant, meaning they won’t break up in the wash if accidentally left in a pocket.”

Have you realised a phone or wallet was inside the machine when it was too late because of unemptied pockets? Or maybe you’ve followed cliche and accidentally washed a new red shirt along with the whites, leaving you embracing a new found love for pink? Whether it was some spare change, a felt tip pen, or your monthly train ticket that ended up in your wash, Cushelle want to hear your stories below.

All who share their stories on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Paper tissues in pockets, it was a nightmare!

Doneanddone · 26/02/2020 01:02

I had been after a pair of suede gloves for the longest time l. Finally bought them and probably wore them twice. I have no idea how the one glove got into the washing machine but safe to say I never wore my beautiful gloves again

The most disastrous washing disaster was my son's expensive new padded jacket. I washed it at 40 degrees, and when it came out of the machine it looked like a damp rag! All the padding had clogged round the seams making it unwearable. Even when dry the padding didn't even out. It was a case of 'wash and replace'!

Walkthedinosauuuuur · 26/02/2020 06:39

The tv remote... It was wrapped in a blanket!

Asuwere · 26/02/2020 07:43

As others have said, I've had a disposable nappy go through the machine before - what a mess!

Nicole1709 · 26/02/2020 08:25

I think a phone will be the winner on this thread! Nothing worse than hearing something banging in your washing machine and then seeing your phone swirl around through the glass!

IrmaFayLear · 26/02/2020 08:47

A pocketful of dog biscuits. They were smeared over everything, didn't dissolve at all and as it was a hot wash then baked onto the clothes into the bargain.

Peony99 · 26/02/2020 09:14

My phone.... left it in a hoodie pocket.

Caztoo2 · 26/02/2020 09:20

A 100 pounds of luncheon vouchers that i had carefully saved up to do a big shop with - they turned into paper mache - i have to NOT think about it even now - 15 years later!

RACHELSMITH45 · 26/02/2020 09:55

Has to be my childs wet nappy! ( luckily not soiled) . My oldest child was bringing some washing down and the nappy must have been underneath it all somehow she's picked that up too..well the result was the gel absolutely all over my washing. Took another two washes!!

I washed my brand new work phone. That did not go down well

katieskatie82 · 26/02/2020 14:14

i'd put a wash on that my son had recently loaded. He was 4 at the time and loved helping me with household chores. Little did i know he'd also added a whole chocolate eclair to the wash! I have no idea why?! When i noticed something strange in there and realized what it was i quizzed him over it. He just replied with i didn't want to eat it! haha

mollymoo818 · 26/02/2020 14:28

I love that Cushelle is washing machine resistant because I have lost count of the amount of times I have washed tissues and toilet paper through the washing machine and it makes such a mess.
I like to think that I am quite good at checking pockets etc to make sure there is nothing in there that there shouldn't be but inevitably I miss things and the absolute worst was glitter which was in my DD's pocket and I have no idea how I missed it but it made such a mess and I was finding pieces of glitter for weeks afterwards.

ONE singular Bobby pin managed to jam the filter so badly that it took me 4 attempts to fix it, including 2 floods that leaked between the flooring and down into the freshly plastered ceiling of the flat below. The lady from number 6 still makes a loud tutting noise at me in the lift 2 years later.

AngelwingsPetlamb · 26/02/2020 15:20

I have very recently washed my husband’s mobile phone and also tumble dried it !
He was very understanding about it but the phone didn’t work afterwards !

merlymerly · 26/02/2020 16:26

That would be my son's treasured Bayern Munich towel - with red and white stripes. Unfortunately it went in a hot wash and the white stripes became pink!

Mandatorymongoose · 26/02/2020 16:38

It's always tissues. Always. In every pocket. I should know to check by now but they hide.

I did once give the dog a hair cut and then wash the old towel he had been stood on which resulted in the next 2 washes covering everything in dog hair instead of washing it though so that was a blinding success.

nettymay · 26/02/2020 17:44

My husband put his trousers in the washing basket and I did not notice he had left his new phone in one of the pockets - we had a 'silent' meal that evening and the children said "Goodnight Bad Boy" when they went upstairs to bed.

lolly2010 · 26/02/2020 17:51

I cannot bare with tissues are left in pockets and spread over everything but I've also washed fluid ink pens ( no ink left after), my mobile ( that was annoying) and set of headphones. I also accidentally washed a new pair of Jeans in with white shirts which swiftly turned them splodgy white.

Yogawoogie · 26/02/2020 17:54

A red lipstick. Complete disaster! Worse was that I spotted it banging against the window bit mid wash and had to wait for the wash to finish to discover the full horror.
Exh thought he would surprise me and catch up on all of the washing while I was away on a work trip. He dyed one load pink and shrunk my favourite wool dress which was hand wash only. Good way of getting out of doing the washing.

Pinkcat231 · 26/02/2020 18:05

I splashed out on an expensive maternity tens machine just a couple of weeks ago, justified with the intention of passing it on to a pregnant friend who’s due soon after. Following a not-quite-to-plan delivery and a long week in hospital, an exhausted DH put everything in the wash. Luckily he spotted the dripping tens machine with batteries still inserted as it was heading for the dryer.

It’s nice that he tried though!

foxessocks · 26/02/2020 18:27

A cashmere jumper on the wrong setting completely ruined and I'd only worn it a few times Shock
