This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories below.

We've all experienced that sinking feeling when you open the washing machine door and realise all is not as it should be, which is why Cushelle have created new Facial Tissues - designed to not fall apart in the wash. Beyond just a rogue tissue, Cushelle want to know - what's accidentally made it into your machine and ruined the whole load?

Here’s what Cushelle has to say: “Cushelle, the irresistibly cushiony soft toilet tissue brand, has launched facial tissues for colds, hay fever and messy kids! Cushelle Facial Tissues are soft, strong and also washing machine resistant, meaning they won’t break up in the wash if accidentally left in a pocket.”

Have you realised a phone or wallet was inside the machine when it was too late because of unemptied pockets? Or maybe you’ve followed cliche and accidentally washed a new red shirt along with the whites, leaving you embracing a new found love for pink? Whether it was some spare change, a felt tip pen, or your monthly train ticket that ended up in your wash, Cushelle want to hear your stories below.

All who share their stories on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

ive washed several things , an ipod , bank cards , tissues which are annoying although not expensive and biros in shirt pockets are sometimes a disaster

My partner's wallet after he left them in his jeans following a night out! He wasn't best pleased to say the least!

Marg2k8 · 25/02/2020 20:27

underwired bras, when the underwire has come out an broken the machine, plus toilet paper that has been used as a tissue and the odd black sock in a white wash, making it a lovely shade of grey.

My then 2 yr old put my mobile phone in the washing machine just after I had loaded it, whilst I was getting the washing powder out of the cupboard. I had to watch it go for a swim for over an hour 😥

flowersfromheaven · 25/02/2020 20:32

My daughter left a Biro pen in her uniform pocket which was very light blue and it leaked, it went everywhere and it was very sticky when I pulled it out of the washer , I had to put toothpaste ons and keep rubbing It took over a hour but I did manage to get most of it off just leaving a little bit left on.

I put my husband's beloved jumper in a hot wash by mistake and it shrank beyond recognition! He was bereft!

Weird things always seem to come out the wash, coins, plastic people, various small toys etc

cozza777 · 25/02/2020 20:44

My husband’s phone was probably the worst thing I have washed but there has been various mishaps unfortunately

SSCRASE123 · 25/02/2020 20:46

My father-in-law managed to pour a good portion of bleach into the wash thinking it was softener !

IWouldBeSuperb · 25/02/2020 20:47

A work mobile Shock

I had to confess to my boss and the IT manager - so embarrassing!

Never done it with my own phone though, so I guess that's a plus!

Rachdayan · 25/02/2020 20:50

I washed my husbands wallet once, complete with bank notes and cards! Was worried it might damage the contactless chip, but it was fine. Put a new spin on rinsing cash though!!!

emphasisofmatter · 25/02/2020 20:56

Tissues are a regular occurrence. I think the worst has to be a few years back when I washed through a £20 note- I was gutted!

Minnibix · 25/02/2020 20:59

When we first got married my hubby decided to help me with the washing whilst I was at work. He put everything into one wash baby clothes, jeans, socks everything. As you can guess nothing came out its original colour. When I got home from work his explanation was, "Well they might not look clean, but they are as I put them on a hot wash"!!! Nothing could be saved but I could not be angry with him, he was trying so hard : D

A disposable nappy! It made a huge mess. There was a gloopy goo over everything

LeeR1985 · 25/02/2020 21:31

The only thing i've ever accidentally washed was loose change when I forgot to check pockets. My brother washed his phone though, obviously didn't survive! He had it in his hands when he was loading the wash and didn't realise he put it in with the clothes. It wasn't until the washing machine had started the cycle when he realised but by the point the damage was done

Dencop · 25/02/2020 21:39

I've turned all the whites red when my daughter being 'helpful' put her new drama top in the machine just as I was ready to put on a white wash ! But worse than this is a disposable nappy... oh my goodness.... when one of those burst in a washing machine what a real mess they make with little jelly beads everywhere! Had to rinse and rewash about 3 times to get rid of them lol.

MumC2141 · 25/02/2020 22:04

Tissues is about it so far.

MrRichTea · 25/02/2020 22:24

Dressing gown on a complete wrong wash!

Ganne1 · 25/02/2020 22:29

I don't know who left a Tamagotchi - remember those? - in their clothes, and, OK, I should have checked ... but you should have seen the kids' faces when they saw that going around in the wash!

dadshere · 25/02/2020 22:42

Washed DH's phone, twice. Not on purpose, just didn't notice it.

lhlee62 · 25/02/2020 22:59

My husband put a cashmere jumper in the washing machine, it came out fit for nothing 😩 He doesn't read the care labels just chucks everything in together

LillianGish · 25/02/2020 23:06

My husband gave me his puffer jacket to wash when he got back from a football match forgetting his passport, which he had used for ID was in the pocket. As he was travelling abroad the following week he had to pay for a temporary, single use travel document to use while his passport was being replaced. He then compounded his error by booking a Eurostar ticket to class reunion for the following week - forgetting that the temporary passport was for a single trip and so had to pay again for another temporary document! All in all very expensive wash.

rachelmccraith · 25/02/2020 23:09

My phone. It wasn't the end of the world, but at the time I had no clue how to drain the machine so I just had to wait for it to finish its cycle. It wasn't a plesant hour listening to my device spinning round and round inside!

abitoflight · 25/02/2020 23:28

Bits of a pork chop put there by DDog. They ripened for a while in the rubbery seal and stank

KittyKat88 · 25/02/2020 23:39

I do try to check pockets but it's usually things like tissues that are left in pockets, and it ends up in tiny white flecks all over the entire wash! I've also made the mistake of having a red sock hidden in a wash of white clothing and ended up with pink everything! Shock

defineme · 26/02/2020 00:12

A small toy cow and bra underwires that got trapped in the machine and caused a blockage that then caused a floor destroying leak...
