Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Oatcakes, Bananas and Pecan Nuts followed by some stretches or a little walk in the sunshine !

angiehoggett · 30/05/2019 08:06

I always have a green tea first thing in the morning followed by overnight oats with chia seeds. After work I do aeropilates Mon-Fri and I find that really gives me an energy boost, even after a long day.

aaarrrgghh · 30/05/2019 09:56

good old fashioned water is the best energy source for me but if i'm really flagging i have a diet coke!

Michellemm · 30/05/2019 11:01

My go to snack is unfortunately chocolate

eloisemummy · 30/05/2019 11:16

My multivitamins, bananas and Chia seeds in my smoothie or on my breakfast. Or natural yogurt with honey and blueberries

lindseystuart85 · 30/05/2019 12:20

Greek yogurt mixed with oats and blueberries (left over night in the fridge) is my energy boost especially in the morning! It is super refreshing and sets me up for the day!

user1496053440 · 30/05/2019 16:36

Oddly exercise always gives me an energy boost but to be honest I am more likely to reach for the chocolate!

Dizzywizz · 30/05/2019 16:38

Definitely putting some tunes on wakes me up! Plus a healthy snack like a cracker, banana and a coffee.

I know when the kids are tired as they get grouchy! Again, a healthy snack and some water and they’re off again

Iggy131313 · 30/05/2019 16:40

I am constantly in need of a boost, I find a healthy smoothie and some music helps, the music more than anything, having a little dance adds to it, gets the blood flowing and turns the mind up a little, much needed!

Thrupennybrit · 30/05/2019 16:41

I like yoghurt, muesli or oats and honey or maple syrup as a pickme-up snack, if I fancy savoury then oatcakes, chutney and cheese. If I'm out and about then it's usually a cereal bar or banana.

3pinkandablue · 30/05/2019 18:01

Hot shower , pamper , comfy clothes and tonnes of water .. always gives me the “ get up and go” feeling xx

2monkeymonsters · 30/05/2019 18:06

Getting up and out of the house for a bit of exercise really sets me up for the day followed by a nice cool shower and then a hot chocolate and oaty biscuits. 😊

Roobaby · 30/05/2019 20:25

I love banana, strawberries and blueberries smoothies with crushed Nairn’s seeded oatcakes - it gives me the energy to work, rest and play all day xxx

yotes12 · 30/05/2019 21:06

Fruit really helps especially at work some between than others I think grapes are best for a quick energy boost

Fluffybunnywunny · 30/05/2019 21:29

Finding some money on the floor, always works a treat in parking me up and thinking that the universe is looking out for me! 🤣

Fluffybunnywunny · 30/05/2019 21:30

Perking!

Sheppady · 30/05/2019 21:51

A small chocolate Daim bar normally works for me. Small enough not to worry about the calories, a little bid of chocolate - just because it’s chocolate, and the boiled toffee sweet in the middle for the sugary energy boost - perfect!

ikkle87 · 30/05/2019 22:41

I find i have an energy slump at around 11 and 2 and that I do better if I don’t give in to them and stop for a nap. I put some music on and get on with my to do list but food always helps.

Favourite snacks are oatcakes or ryvita crispbreads topped with either cottage cheese (has to be either longleys cheese and chive or Asda sweet chilli flavour though) or a spread of cream cheese with smoked salmon is delicious.

Don’t give in to energy drinks either. They won’t help in the long run.

lcorrall88 · 31/05/2019 00:01

I always need an energy boost at about 11am and 3/4pm. I tend to grab whatever I have, or just a coffee. My daughter is the same and needs a snack or she will get hangry. I also find changing what ever we are doing to something a bit more active like a walk and play in our local park wakes us both us being active in the fresh air.

kaytee75 · 31/05/2019 01:31

Going for a swim always gives me an energy boost. Even if I'm tired and I have to force myself out of the house to get there, once I'm in the pool and moving, I get a real energy boost and it lasts for quite a while after I finish

Emhus · 31/05/2019 08:01

Porridge for breakfast, plenty of water to drink during the day

pixelwife · 31/05/2019 08:42

A fruit smoothie after a workout helps me keep my energy levels up but I also love coffee which keeps me energised all day between work and 3 young children!

merlymerly · 31/05/2019 11:26

I usually have a handful of nuts mid morning to boost my energy and turning the radio on and listening to some upbeat music helps to energise me too

Parrotfactor · 31/05/2019 12:07

My boost has to be...fresh orange and pomegranate juice...and a banana..a nice start to the day.

Loftzilla · 31/05/2019 12:17

A lovely Nairn's Oats & Stem Ginger biscuit with a nice cup of tea!
