Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I love oatcakes with a slice of cheese and they are now the go to snack for my children, I've never understand why people give young children rice cakes, they are high GI and taste like polystyrene wheras oatcakes are filling and nutritious.

porridge with banana and honey.

lynsmagoo · 26/05/2019 21:38

a banana and a coffee in the morning gets me going!

ceejayen · 27/05/2019 13:05

My low point of the day is always mid afternoon - love to have a boost of energy from oaty bars at this time.

cheryl100 · 27/05/2019 15:26

I struggle after 3pm and a bit of fresh air always perks me up!

pushchairprincess · 27/05/2019 16:18

My home made banana oat bread gets us through the afternoon until dinner. A coffee in the morning - no caffeine after 1pm though.

marylegs23 · 28/05/2019 07:54

awful to say but coffee is my savior (full time working mum)

sofieellis · 28/05/2019 18:42

caffeine - not particularly healthy, but it works for me - I make a big pot of tea every time I start to feel tired.

bringmelaughter · 28/05/2019 18:49

Getting outside. A walk round the block, lunch at work outside or reading a magazine sat out in the garden. Just getting out.

Nicole1709 · 28/05/2019 18:56

I love a coffee with oat milk!

Yoga gives me an energy boost and refreshes me. When I see that my daughter needs an energy boost I take her out into the garden to water the plants and get some fresh air, this is usually in the afternoon

Jhill1105 · 29/05/2019 08:19

I have oats for my breakfast, salad for lunch but when the kids get home from school we’re all usually flagging a little & daddy doesn’t get home until 6.30 so it’s a way to wait for dinner,
I usually make us a sharing plate, carrots, hummus, apple, peanut butter, at the weekend I make us some homemade protein boost balls, chocolate protein powder, peanut butter, honey, oatbran & desiccated coconut.... mix all the ingredients apart from the coconut roll into balls them roll in the coconut & pop them in the fridge, then when their hungry they can grab one, great hit with the kids & other half!

lhlawrie · 29/05/2019 10:12

Oats with honey and fresh fruit

badgermum · 29/05/2019 12:35

Sunshine gives my day a boost, i feel like i'm solar powered when the sun is shining, failing that a sweet coffee and a banana helps me when i'm feeling a slump mid morning

staceymummyleigh · 29/05/2019 14:12

An excellent breakfast fuels me :) usually fruit and museli, then a banana around 11 am holds me till lunch time

1wella · 29/05/2019 15:41

My favourite nutritious boost is a slice of wholemeal toast with peanut butter and banana.

chrissy53438 · 29/05/2019 18:50

Oatcake and cream cheese

Chocolate50 · 29/05/2019 19:52

Weirdly i find that beansprouts (such as alfalfa) make me feel really alive & give me a boost. And chocolate - not together though!
Well you have to have balance eh?!?

Nettie17 · 29/05/2019 19:58

Oatcakes with marmite on and a boiled egg

myusername12345 · 29/05/2019 21:30

Erm....chocolate!

HelenSw4les · 29/05/2019 22:05

Getting up at the same time every morning and going for at least a 30 minute walk, whatever the weather. It's sometimes even nicer in the rain as long as it's not torrential; nature at its best.

AngelaKilfeather · 29/05/2019 22:38

Cold green tea. I keep a big jug of it in the fridge. I really like it and it it gives me a boost!

nikilily · 29/05/2019 22:52

Peanut butter on rice cakes with cucumber is my go to fave :)

Mrsbjohnson · 30/05/2019 00:31

A strong coffee (sorry, I’ve got two under two so it’s needed haha!) with a carb based snack like oatcakes or a wrap with some cheese/ avocado and ham does the trick for me! And some fresh air too, you can’t beat a bit of cold breeze on your cheeks to wake you up!
