For many of us when we see or a hear a reference to a toy from our childhood, we are immediately transported by to a specific time when we were younger playing with that toy...queue all the nostalgic feelings. BRIO would love to know all the toys that give you that nostalgic feeling and what it is about them that makes you feel that way.

Here’s what BRIO have to say: “We just turned 130, yet we feel more vital than ever. And that’s a good thing when working with toys. Because just as play develops children, play has developed us as a company. Smart Tech is the latest integrated technology from BRIO which is adding extra layers of functionality and play value to our timeless toys. The Smart Tech trains can stop, turn around, go slower or go faster using the accessories that are in the range, bringing even more magic to the BRIO World. In a world full of technology and computers, traditional play is at the core of what we do at BRIO. Our Smart Tech range combines clever train technology with traditional play patterns, meaning as parents you don’t need to feel nostalgic for those classic toys as they’re at the heart of everything we do.”

Watch this video on the BRIO Smart tech Engine with Action Tunnel Set:

Is it the Troll Dolls that make you feel nostalgic as you remember spending hours styling their bright pink hair? Perhaps seeing your DC talking to imaginary people on your phone makes you remember you doing the same on your Chatter Telephone? Did you think of yourself as a highly-skilled chef with your Easy-Bake Oven? Would you just spend hours drawing out things on your Etch A Sketch? Or is it good old Play-Doh that always make you feel nostalgic whenever your child plays with it?

Whichever toys make you feel nostalgic, share them on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list) and another four MNers will win a BRIO Smart Tech Engine Set with Action Tunnels, worth £89.95 each.

Thanks and good luck.

I loved screwball scramble, I used to take it into school on the last day of term!

SmileyShazza · 16/10/2018 09:01

The two that really stick in my memory are the Vulli Magic Tree - I can remember playing with it for hours as a child. Would love to get one for our daughter as I'm sure she would really like it too, wish I'd kept mine now!

The other is Barbie Dreamstore. My mum used to make all my Barbie clothes from old curtains and clothes. She always refused to buy me the outfits as she said they were too expensive. One of my friends had all of the outfits and I was always super jealous of the clothes her Barbies wore compared to the home made ones mine always sported. I remember I got the Barbie Dreamstore one year for Christmas and it came with shoes, hats and other accessories - all of a sudden my Barbies felt like they were the best dressed dolls ever Smile

Definitely my Etch a Sketch!! I actually still have one which I purchased nostalgically just before a Woolworths went under. So although not my original childhood one, still loved. My Dd uses it now and usually some friends when they're over to. I can draw a whole house!!

insertimaginativeusername · 16/10/2018 09:12

Oh so many that the DC have now!

Barbie - I had a house complete with clothes my nan has made and bits of furniture I made myself (child of the Blue Peter days!) my parents have dug it back out the loft for my DC

Lego - when the most exciting pieces were windows, doors and wheels

Playdoh - that smell instantly takes me back to childhood, I sometimes go and sniff a pot

Polly pockets and Sylvanian families - I loved all the miniature.

I also had the big yellow teapot someone posted above.

Screwball scramble and monopoly - also still have my originals

Feeling all nostalgic now!

MTBMummy · 16/10/2018 09:31

Tinker toys - spent years plating with them - wish I still had them for my kids

And Stickle Bricks, but I see those have made a come back recently so have bought a set for DS for Christmas

When DS1 was born, my mum bought him a pull along dog, the kind with the springy tail and flappy ears! Reminding me of mine, I remember walking that dog everywhere when I was little! :)

Sindy dolls

jacqui5366 · 16/10/2018 09:49

Opening my A La Carte Kitchen on my 7th birthday - I was in raptures, feeding my family with play dough creations, sausages and baked beans, was a daily occurrence. I loved baking imaginary cakes, and put it away every night.

I loved my little ponies and I am a little bit sad that my boys really aren't into them. We had the my little pony stables and my sister and I enjoyed playing and roleplaying with the ponies inside it.

charlielpage123 · 16/10/2018 09:56

My firm favorites were; Polly pocket - I had a light up church where you could recreate a wedding ceremony. My little ponies, trolls and barbies kept us entertained on a regular basis. Last but not least and probably most loved was: Baby all gone-cherry. Me and my younger twin sisters would always fight over the spoon with the cherries on and she just smelt so nice.

90's kid here!
Tamagotchi's and Yo Yo's!! Both of which were banned from our school playground :( haha!

QueenOfPharts · 16/10/2018 10:22

Aw Im loving looking at all the nostalgia here so many toys I have nostalgia for nut never actually have like the little people toy teapot house- I never had a train set either but loved them. Also wanted one of those zaph creation dolls that did everything.
I had a fab duplo house and farm set which I played loads with. Also loved my sylvanian families and had about 7 Polly pockets. I'm trying to get my dd into sylvanian families them now!

lizajayne · 16/10/2018 10:29

My little pony, barbies and marble run - i had a plastic one, my daughters have a lovely wooden one,

voyager50 · 16/10/2018 10:35

I spent hours playing with my Carebears whilst my little sister was obsessed with her My Little Ponies!

Greyhound22 · 16/10/2018 10:44

I loved Polly Pocket! I also always wanted a Mister Frosty but my mum wouldn't let me. Have never forgiven her.

Mammatron · 16/10/2018 10:46

I also have found memories of the big yellow teapot (although l think finding a spider in there when I was 2 is what caused my arachnophobia!!)

Also massive love for the ladybird pram, they had one in my sons playgroup- he loved it too and it brought back memories of me playing with it at that age 💛

LEGO - the plain set that you could create anything you wanted, which for me was inevitably boats and houses and houses that were also boats

Puppy in my pocket - still have my collection in my parents' attic

And not really toys as such but those little plastic blocks that you use in maths lessons in primary schools - they had them in my daughter's class in school and I played with them at parents' evening and all those memories flooded back. Snap cubes I think there were called. I'm tempted to buy some now, for er...learning

And recently picked up the classic BRIO rattle (the bell in a little cage that you can roll around) for my baby in a second hand shop - he loves it as much as I probably did as a baby

This was my absolute obsession one Christmas. I drove my mum mad for months talking about it. Best Christmas present I ever received.

Aspergallus · 16/10/2018 12:22

I loved my Fisher Price shoe! (There was an old woman who lived in a shoe...). I really hoped that when FP re-released some vintage classsics, this would be included but sadly not. Sometimes see them on eBay and it takes me right back.

DrCoconut · 16/10/2018 12:22

Tree house. Classic 80's toy.

LadyFuchsiaGroan · 16/10/2018 12:57

Lite Bright, wish this was still available to buy I think my 5 year old dd would love this.

Although her putting Polly Pockets on her Christmas list brings back a lot of memories. I loved the original Polly Pockets and my absolute favourites was the clock and the dream world.

I also remember the disappointment of not receiving a Mr Frosty...

We had a Lego airport that was much played with and my little pony was very popular.

Elliejojo · 16/10/2018 13:12

My trolls and polly pockets make me feel nostalgic!

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 16/10/2018 13:16

I loved lego - was massively into space and I got a moon lego set at about 9/10 and it was my absolute favourite thing.
Earlier than that I loved fuzzy felt and would play pretend with my cuddly toys for hours.
I wasn't allowed Barbies/Sindys/my little Pony/Care Bears as my mum thought they were a poor influence so of course I wanted them all the more for a year or two!! They were definitely the toys of my generation just not my home.

firefly101 · 16/10/2018 13:35

My just turned 4 year old loves Brio! He was so surprised that Granny had been keeping a big box of it for the last 30 years, we felt very nostalgic playing with the same set my brother and I had used.
I recently saw carebears in the shop again - they look ever so bright compared to my much hugged 1980s bear.
