For many of us when we see or a hear a reference to a toy from our childhood, we are immediately transported by to a specific time when we were younger playing with that toy...queue all the nostalgic feelings. BRIO would love to know all the toys that give you that nostalgic feeling and what it is about them that makes you feel that way.

Here’s what BRIO have to say: “We just turned 130, yet we feel more vital than ever. And that’s a good thing when working with toys. Because just as play develops children, play has developed us as a company. Smart Tech is the latest integrated technology from BRIO which is adding extra layers of functionality and play value to our timeless toys. The Smart Tech trains can stop, turn around, go slower or go faster using the accessories that are in the range, bringing even more magic to the BRIO World. In a world full of technology and computers, traditional play is at the core of what we do at BRIO. Our Smart Tech range combines clever train technology with traditional play patterns, meaning as parents you don’t need to feel nostalgic for those classic toys as they’re at the heart of everything we do.”

Watch this video on the BRIO Smart tech Engine with Action Tunnel Set:

Is it the Troll Dolls that make you feel nostalgic as you remember spending hours styling their bright pink hair? Perhaps seeing your DC talking to imaginary people on your phone makes you remember you doing the same on your Chatter Telephone? Did you think of yourself as a highly-skilled chef with your Easy-Bake Oven? Would you just spend hours drawing out things on your Etch A Sketch? Or is it good old Play-Doh that always make you feel nostalgic whenever your child plays with it?

Whichever toys make you feel nostalgic, share them on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list) and another four MNers will win a BRIO Smart Tech Engine Set with Action Tunnels, worth £89.95 each.

Thanks and good luck.

Scrabble (arguably not a toy...) makes me feel nostalgic of childhood holidays spent with my grandma

BrieAndChilli · 16/10/2018 18:59

I get nostalgic over handmade stuff. When we were kids in the 80’s we made little houses out of boxes and play phones out of Lego etc. My mum knitted dresses for our Sindys. You also used to be able to get packs of clothes for them but now you only seem to be able to buy different outfits if you buy another doll.

I have been working in early years today and using the shapes with cork boards that you hammer in to make shapes.
I have had a fabulous afternoon remembering being in reception myself.

Lego space - we had several moon crater base boards and used to love making lots of tiny space ships and moon vehicles. I've still got it and have added it to DS's newer lego space sets.

My little pony - I only had one, a yellow one with a pink tail and mane, but I loved it and always wanted more.

I had a mini-market sweet shop, and I loved setting up everything on the shelves then selling it to my brother.

I used to love playing with toy cars and could spend hours with them on the mat which was a town. I can clearly remember parking then so carefully.
The Lego was always fought over in my house too! I never had much imagination I liked to build walls!

Sugarhouse · 16/10/2018 19:26

Mine were polly pockets ,barbies and my toy post office loved them

NeverTwerkNaked · 16/10/2018 19:29

For me it’s Brio, Meccanno and Playmobil. We spent hours and hours every week playing with these.
I was thrilled when my son got into his Brio railway. And now my daughter “makes” me play playmobil.

The weird one is hot wheels. I don’t remember it at all from my childhood, but my dad got all nostalgic when he found out my son was buying at hot wheels. I thought they were a new fad, I had no idea they had been around for decades!

Fuzzy Felt, Rainbow Brite and My Little Pony. Oh, and a She Ra doll and castle.

PseudoBadger · 16/10/2018 19:46

We love BRIO here; I knew I would buy it for my children as I always coveted it growing up but never got any.
I also love Magpie and Julip horse models, they make me nostalgic for growing up around ponies and good friends!

Grew up in Sweden so was exposed to a lot of Brio toys. I always wanted the Brio kitchen for DD but too expensive to ship.

I have so many fond toy memories, rubics cube, game and watch, Sindy dolls and so on and a huge memory was getting a Hollie Hobby doll for Christmas. She seemed huge to me.

Plasiticraft. Always wanted, never got one. It was exciting when adverts for toys came on TV.
I loved my Sindy doll, spirograph set and colour in posters to go up on my bedroom wall.

Yodasdog · 16/10/2018 20:03

The Wuzzles, I loved them, had all the bears and books.
Also, whenever I see Lego police sets I think back to being about 7 and being bought the little Lego police bikes.

Summerdays2014 · 16/10/2018 20:33

Big yellow teapot, Care Bears, playdoh with the heads that you squeezed it through so it made hair, fashion wheel. And books- the magic faraway tree, Mallory towers, Nancy Drew, The Baby Sitters club, Judy Bloom.

firawla · 16/10/2018 20:36

It’s mostly Barbies for me, and polly pockets, also play doh and things like those cardboard dress up dolls. Brio trains make me nostalgic about my older kids as toddlers though, they absolutely loved it!

malaguena · 16/10/2018 20:52

I love Brio toys! Brilliant company. Some of my favourite toys from childhood are polly pocket, and a perfume making kit I was given. I also loved board games like Cluedo.

lolapops1 · 16/10/2018 20:53

Finders Keepers, had a snail one called Shelley.
Barbies - still love them now!
Playmobil pirate ship.

choclateyclare · 16/10/2018 20:54

Sylvanian families. I think that there is a sense of nostalgia because a lot of the clothes and furniture is quite old fashioned. My son enjoys putting the tiny books on the bookcases!

Peaches2018 · 16/10/2018 20:58

Lego (my older brother showed me how to build as I was 3) Polly pocket, all kinds of stuffed animal especially Winnie the Pooh (the older version) and Play Doh!!!! Can't wait till my boy can play with Duplo / Lego and we can start building through the whole house Smile

littleme96 · 16/10/2018 21:15

I loved my Bluebird Magical Theatre. I have such fond memories of playing with it with my childhood best friend. She felt the same and hunted out an old one on Ebay a few years ago for her own children to play with.

Anj123 · 16/10/2018 21:17

I loved Lego and still have mine from when I was a child.

Doobydoo · 16/10/2018 21:17

Cindy! I can still remember opening Ballerina Cindy on Christmas Day...I was 5...am now 49. I also really really wanted the oven that really baked cakes but never did SadGrin

Missmagpie1 · 16/10/2018 21:43

My wooden farmyard and animals! I would spend hours upon hours playing with it. I would love to get one for my girl to play with, I think she’d teally enjoy it!

FawnDrench · 16/10/2018 21:49

Tressy and her boootyfull adjustable-length flowing locks - the hours of fun and imaginative play; making up hairstyles and rearranging her clothes to create different looks - brought me joy and delight aplenty all those decades ago!

Nacreous · 16/10/2018 21:50

Ultimate nostalgia is Enid blyton books, but in terms of actual toys it had to be Lego.

Ladygaladriel · 16/10/2018 21:51

A Mr Frosty! Wanted one for years and finally got one and it didn’t live up to expectations!!
