For many of us when we see or a hear a reference to a toy from our childhood, we are immediately transported by to a specific time when we were younger playing with that toy...queue all the nostalgic feelings. BRIO would love to know all the toys that give you that nostalgic feeling and what it is about them that makes you feel that way.

Here’s what BRIO have to say: “We just turned 130, yet we feel more vital than ever. And that’s a good thing when working with toys. Because just as play develops children, play has developed us as a company. Smart Tech is the latest integrated technology from BRIO which is adding extra layers of functionality and play value to our timeless toys. The Smart Tech trains can stop, turn around, go slower or go faster using the accessories that are in the range, bringing even more magic to the BRIO World. In a world full of technology and computers, traditional play is at the core of what we do at BRIO. Our Smart Tech range combines clever train technology with traditional play patterns, meaning as parents you don’t need to feel nostalgic for those classic toys as they’re at the heart of everything we do.”

Watch this video on the BRIO Smart tech Engine with Action Tunnel Set:

Is it the Troll Dolls that make you feel nostalgic as you remember spending hours styling their bright pink hair? Perhaps seeing your DC talking to imaginary people on your phone makes you remember you doing the same on your Chatter Telephone? Did you think of yourself as a highly-skilled chef with your Easy-Bake Oven? Would you just spend hours drawing out things on your Etch A Sketch? Or is it good old Play-Doh that always make you feel nostalgic whenever your child plays with it?

Whichever toys make you feel nostalgic, share them on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list) and another four MNers will win a BRIO Smart Tech Engine Set with Action Tunnels, worth £89.95 each.

Thanks and good luck.

Girls World - nothing could beat smearing cheap, waxy fake make up onto a plastic head whilst trying to ‘style’ it’s cheap nylon hair. Takes me right back to my childhood!

Almostthere15 · 15/10/2018 22:00

Oh the joy of the girls world, you could "grow" the hair for long styles. I still can recall the smell of the make up palette.

My DH is very jealous of our dcs train set as he wanted one but had racing tracks instead as his parents thought they were more "modern"

MrCrabApple · 15/10/2018 22:04

Starcom. Great adventures were had.

For me it’s Lego , we had tons of the stuff as children , police stations , fire stations , my dad built my sisters and I a layout so we could set them all up as a town . My own dc who are now adult have also always liked Lego and we still get a couple of the big sets a year to build together . We have the large discontinued Eiffel Tower which is my favourite piece of all and is on display in our second lounge along with some other favourites like tower bridge and the Disney castle . It may be expensive but it’s can retain its value if you want to sell it on ( which we don’t ) . I never had BRIO as a child but my ds loved it as a child and we still have a large collection in our loft .

I had hours of fun with my Spirograph and Fashion Wheel. I’d carefully design and colour the patterns.

I also fondly remember my little brother getting some faintly ridiculous mini snooker table that we all tried to play with one Boxing Day.

tamagotchies! or cyber pets as we called them back in the 90s lol

topology444 · 15/10/2018 22:13

Brio trains, Fabulant, Teddy Bear, board games. I also had a fancy pencil sharpener and now my DS loves it too!

MerryTwinkletoes · 15/10/2018 22:20

For me it's brio trains (honestly!) I have many happy memories of sitting with my much younger brother building tracks. My 2 DS's love them too now and it's one of the few toys that I think ages well.

I'll definitely be saving our brio trains for the grandkids one day!

I used to play with Lego for hours on end with my sisters. We would build for hours. We had these characters and would make up games with them. The sheep was my fave. She would usually be going out with the lion.

Magic Roundabout (wish I'd kept mine!), Girl's World, kerplunk.

SputnikBear · 15/10/2018 22:38

I had a Big Yellow Teapot! Loved it so much but don’t remember giving any of the people names or doing much except putting them in and out of the teapot.

Playmobil. I also have great memories of various board and card games on family holidays.

rugdoctor · 15/10/2018 23:37

Polly pocket, I could play with them for hours. Handy to take out and about with you to keep me occupied too. No wonder my mum didn't mind buying me them.

I had polly pocket clip on earrings and they were my absolute favourite.

I grew up in a deprived area and our school had a toy library, for 20p a week you could borrow a toy. It was always a race to get the big yellow teapot, it was everyone's favourite toy.

CollyWombles · 16/10/2018 00:20

Not just polly pockets, I was crazy about puppy in my pocket, kitty in my pocket, I still remember the theme tune to the advert, puppy in my pocket, as cute as can be, now I can take them all home with me!

I loved my werebear teddy, they go for a fortune on eBay now. My one came with a cassette tape and a story about my werebear. I always had my bears scary face and claws out, so he could keep me safe at night!

Whenever I see the pin box that you could push your face or hands into and leave shapes, makes me think of when I was a kid too.

kateandme · 16/10/2018 00:24

Mr Men books and lego which seem to have stood the test of time somewhat!

Andcake · 16/10/2018 06:42

So many- I was obsessed by sindy- I had a few and a big house with an oven which made special noises. I loved it! My son is obsessed by brio it is his favourite toy and he builds layouts but complements them with Lego stations and ports- mostly using his dads old Lego.

summeraupair · 16/10/2018 08:08

So many - I was totally spoilt! Sylvanian Families really bring out the nostalgia though, especially the bus and the canal boat, at the little Harvester restaurant - I didn't know how lucky I was.
