For many of us when we see or a hear a reference to a toy from our childhood, we are immediately transported by to a specific time when we were younger playing with that toy...queue all the nostalgic feelings. BRIO would love to know all the toys that give you that nostalgic feeling and what it is about them that makes you feel that way.

Here’s what BRIO have to say: “We just turned 130, yet we feel more vital than ever. And that’s a good thing when working with toys. Because just as play develops children, play has developed us as a company. Smart Tech is the latest integrated technology from BRIO which is adding extra layers of functionality and play value to our timeless toys. The Smart Tech trains can stop, turn around, go slower or go faster using the accessories that are in the range, bringing even more magic to the BRIO World. In a world full of technology and computers, traditional play is at the core of what we do at BRIO. Our Smart Tech range combines clever train technology with traditional play patterns, meaning as parents you don’t need to feel nostalgic for those classic toys as they’re at the heart of everything we do.”

Watch this video on the BRIO Smart tech Engine with Action Tunnel Set:

Is it the Troll Dolls that make you feel nostalgic as you remember spending hours styling their bright pink hair? Perhaps seeing your DC talking to imaginary people on your phone makes you remember you doing the same on your Chatter Telephone? Did you think of yourself as a highly-skilled chef with your Easy-Bake Oven? Would you just spend hours drawing out things on your Etch A Sketch? Or is it good old Play-Doh that always make you feel nostalgic whenever your child plays with it?

Whichever toys make you feel nostalgic, share them on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list) and another four MNers will win a BRIO Smart Tech Engine Set with Action Tunnels, worth £89.95 each.

Thanks and good luck.

Fuzzy Felt - think we played with this at school as well as home
Playmobil - only really remember them having a roundabout, and how their hair kept falling off
Farm figures - kept in a tin, the "farm tin". Used to play with these in the front room in front of the TV with my Mum and sister, along with the Playmobil
My Little Pony - original 6, flutter ponies, male shirehorse, big cuddly one, matching games, designing my own with pens/pencils, and of course collecting the tokens on the back to send off for a free baby pony
Games - Careers, Ulcers, Apple Picking, Cluedo, Guess Who, Bed Bugs
Barbie - only owned 2. Both ended up bald. Mainly loved the clothes (including Benetton Boutique), and putting them all in the bath like a swimming pool. Oh, and playing "schools" with me as teacher, along with all my cuddly toys, animal figurines etc.
Roller skates - wanted some for months, and eventually got pink ones for Christmas. My best friend's birthday was in October, so she got them before me Angry
Random other things - cheap generic doll's house, Spirograph, View Finder, Chinese Checkers, plaster of paris mould kits, battery-operated dog that yapped and did a somersault, and yes, trolls (Russ and Dam!)

For me it's any reference to tennis - my sister & me used to spend hours playing in the tennis on the (very quiet!) road in the school hols.

PashleyB · 21/10/2018 19:24

Sindys. I had loads as a chiled and loved playing/arranging them for hours on end

Marg2k8 · 21/10/2018 19:24

Spirograph, Barbie and Sindy, Scrabble, marbles to name a few.

InRainbows · 21/10/2018 19:25

Got to be Polly Pocket. When I was about 12 I decided to sell almost all of them at a boot sale, I loved them but felt I needed to grow up and wanted another girl to get as much joy from them as I did. In the end a moody woman asked for all of them for something rediculous like a pound, I agreed when she said they were for her granddaughter. As the lady was leaving I said 'hope your granddaughter enjoys them' she responded with 'doubt it, she will probably play with them for five minutes before she gets bored.' I'm now 30 and the vision of someone discarding my beloved Polly pockets still haunts me.

I had a ballerina Sindy doll with a lovely pink tutu which I loved. When my brother wasn’t looking she went for car rides with swivel eyes action man in his army vehicle!!

I absolutely loved the Magic Robot game as a child, so much so that my ex in his romantic days found one on an auction site and made our very own personalised questions and answers sheet. Such a shame Magic Robot couldn't predict he'd cheat!

Tinkerbell Makeup Set, My Little Pony and my first set of roller skates.

Rachdayan · 21/10/2018 19:41

Sylvainian Families, I can't believe they are still about too. I'm sometimes tempted to buy some, just to satisfy my own childhood memories.

Cl90 · 21/10/2018 19:46

Playground Kids! My sister and I spent hours playing with them, I think I still have my collection somewhere in the loft. Sadly they are not so popular with my sons but I can’t bring myself to part with them.

I adored my sindy, loved dressing them in different outfits!!!

start100 · 21/10/2018 20:55

Large teddy bears always remind me of my childhood times. I loved them and told them all my sorrows to the ears.

DenCop1 · 21/10/2018 20:59

My Cabbage Patch Doll ( hidden away in my cupboard), Sindy, Tiny Tears and weebles, these were the toys of my childhood and the thought of them still makes me smile .

pfcpompeysarah · 21/10/2018 21:31

Oh where do I start, the Game of Life, Play-doh, the telephone on string, also had a caterpillar on a string too, Lego, my post office set... so many wonderful toys which meant something when I was a kid, now there seems almost TOO MANY toys.

liz1970 · 21/10/2018 21:44

Sindy dolls and tiny tears dolls :)

Flutternotsoshy · 21/10/2018 21:45

My wooden train set from ELC. No idea what brand it was, we lost the packaging and mum and dad stored it in an old school wooden box with a slide top (think it was originally a wine box??)

I spent hours laying out the track and connecting the cars with magnets. I'd also put them positive to positive and magically push the carriages without having to touch them.

And yes I still have it and my 7 yr old DD still plays with it at nanny's cos she's got more floor space 😁

Wincher · 21/10/2018 21:55

I had Sindy dolls and, until recently, they were still being played with by my younger cousins. The smell of the box they were on took me right back! I kept my Lego to pass on to my kids and I love playing with that with them.

I always wanted Playmobil but never got any, so I bought it for my kids. But sadly they’ve never really got into it.

My in laws kept Brio, Lego and DUPLO for the grandchildren, and I think those are the three sets of toys we will keep for our grandchildren too. I’ve tried to steer clear of buying lots of different rubbishy plastic sets - the old classics are the best.

Cabbage Patch Kids bring back memories to me, then they revamped them and they looked completely different. The old ones were really cute and I remember wanting one for ages.
