For many of us when we see or a hear a reference to a toy from our childhood, we are immediately transported by to a specific time when we were younger playing with that toy...queue all the nostalgic feelings. BRIO would love to know all the toys that give you that nostalgic feeling and what it is about them that makes you feel that way.

Here’s what BRIO have to say: “We just turned 130, yet we feel more vital than ever. And that’s a good thing when working with toys. Because just as play develops children, play has developed us as a company. Smart Tech is the latest integrated technology from BRIO which is adding extra layers of functionality and play value to our timeless toys. The Smart Tech trains can stop, turn around, go slower or go faster using the accessories that are in the range, bringing even more magic to the BRIO World. In a world full of technology and computers, traditional play is at the core of what we do at BRIO. Our Smart Tech range combines clever train technology with traditional play patterns, meaning as parents you don’t need to feel nostalgic for those classic toys as they’re at the heart of everything we do.”

Watch this video on the BRIO Smart tech Engine with Action Tunnel Set:

Is it the Troll Dolls that make you feel nostalgic as you remember spending hours styling their bright pink hair? Perhaps seeing your DC talking to imaginary people on your phone makes you remember you doing the same on your Chatter Telephone? Did you think of yourself as a highly-skilled chef with your Easy-Bake Oven? Would you just spend hours drawing out things on your Etch A Sketch? Or is it good old Play-Doh that always make you feel nostalgic whenever your child plays with it?

Whichever toys make you feel nostalgic, share them on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list) and another four MNers will win a BRIO Smart Tech Engine Set with Action Tunnels, worth £89.95 each.

Thanks and good luck.

Playing Mouse Trap and Kerplunk always make me feel nostalgic as I played those a lot as a child

socat · 21/10/2018 11:44

Meccano, Lego (still enjoy this day!) and Hornby Train sets would be great to relive!
Meccano and Lego stir some creativity and achievement of building them!

I used to love playing with my visionaries toys. I also used to take a quilt, squish it together in a big weird shape and put it down on the floor to use as a 'mountain' for my cars.

ashde · 21/10/2018 12:18

I come from a big family so the toy I had was a teddy bear given to me by a friend. I really cherished it and had it for a long time.

Awh this thread is making me so nostalgic, so many great toys. My first ever love was Care Bears, I got one for each birthday & Christmas, I loved them so much. Hours of fun with the Fischer Price till & as I got older I really enjoyed Barbies. Me Frosty makes me super nostalgic as I was never allowed it & my eldest is now asking for it & I’m saying no!

Helsbells68 · 21/10/2018 12:24

I loved operation as a child

RACHELSMITH45 · 21/10/2018 12:37

Barbies... now my daughter loves them as much as I did.

BiologyMatters · 21/10/2018 12:38

Sylvanian families for me. I must have spent hours and hours playing with them. Also puppy/kitty in my pocket and Polly pockets. I guess any small make believe games!

michael888 · 21/10/2018 12:39

I was given a brightly coloured wooden spinning top. This was the first toy that I remembered owning and my most treasured, and takes me back to my childhood.

Emmax12 · 21/10/2018 12:46

Oh gosh there are so many! I recently went in the loft and found my old duplo house, sylvanian families, puppy in the my pocket and teddy in my pocket.

Then I remember furbys, tamogotchis, mr bucket and all my Barbies. Such lovely memories of playing with them.

Has to be tiny tears, I loved that doll, I took her everywhere with me.

lizd31 · 21/10/2018 12:54

Tiddlywinks reminds me of my Nana as we used to play this together. Such a simple game yet hours of fun. My favourite toys as a child were my teddy & black doll which I still have. Teddy is in a bad way after years of cuddling as you can see but Jemima is in mint condition almost 57 years on. My parents bought her for me when I was in hospital at the age of 2 to remind me of my favourite Jamaican nurse, Jemima, who used to carry me on the doctors rounds as I was her favourite as I was so young. I was only two but I remember it clearly, I adored her

My Little Pony makes me feel nostalgic. My daughter loves them and I only wish I kept all the ones I collected when I was a little girl. For my son, I get nostalgic when we play all the old games like Kerplunk and Frustration!

deano777 · 21/10/2018 13:33

Lego! I would play with it for hours. All my boys love it too.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 21/10/2018 13:39

I never had Barbies, but I had a Sindy, and Pippa dolls. I wanted one sooooo badly, but my Mum made me save my own pocket money for the Sindy. I also wanted the "real" clothes, but there were massively expensive for what they were, and my Mum, a single mother, couldn't afford them- but she did get a woman up the street to make me some. I am ashamed now to say they were never (in my eyes) good enough because I wanted the vastly overpriced real thing. Blush
My grandma bought me a Pippa back from her holidays and I was beside myself.
My own daughter was never much into dolls or dolls clothes but god, I loved them!

wooohooo · 21/10/2018 13:47

I loved my Teeny iny tears, for some reason I remember she had no finger nails, I chewed them all off !!

Dormouse1940 · 21/10/2018 13:49

Oh the smell of play-doh, I've always loved it and there's nothing quite like it to take me back to being little!
And the horrible colour it'd go when the colours got a bit mixed... sigh

lori6290 · 21/10/2018 13:51

I used to love operation and buckaroo! My little boy has them now, we love playing them :)

annedoyle55 · 21/10/2018 13:54

Nintendo 64 or the N64 was Nintendo’s last video game console to use the cartridge. The Nintendo 64 was succeeded by the Game Cube in 2001. Would spend hours playing with my Nintendo 64 although things have moved on since then I will never forget my Nintendo 64.

sophiefx · 21/10/2018 14:44

Polly pockets for sure! I had a Cinderella Pocket castle which I was obsessed with!

amelia4levi · 21/10/2018 15:19

Pokemon! the fun of it will never die!! and never be the same.
Collecting pokemon cards & swapping for others with friends!
On street corners you look for kids holding there cards and go see what they got and start a swap!!! Pure! amazing!

Two things - the first was a tin "jack in the box" with a clown painted on it, i remember playing that over and over again trying to make myself jump when it popped up!

The second thing was the trike - we didnt have much money when I was a kid, and I remember I was cycling on an old green trike behind everyone and my knees were banging on the handlebars as it was far too small - and this lovely old couple who lived at the end of the row saw me and asked me if I wanted a trike they had in their back yard - they had it for their grandson but he was too big for it now - so of course I was over the moon as it was practically brand new with no scuffed paint - I remember it was blue with a bright red flat tin seat and it was such a smooth ride and I could pratically fly round the streets on it! Those were the days where everyone played on the streets and shared everything (and 10p got you and your friends a huge bag of sweets to share)!
