This activity is now closed

As parents, it’s almost a right of passage to have at least a few nights where your child just won’t settle down for bed. They’re either still a little hyper from the day’s events, they don’t feel like sleeping or they’re just restless. That’s why Moonlite would love to know how you get your child to relax and calm down before bedtime.

Here’s what Moonlite have to say: “Moonlite makes bedtime stories come to life, with full HD story images and in-app sound effects to make the reading experience immersive and magical for children. Feed and fuel children's imaginations and bring back the love of reading through a creative, immersive storytelling and bonding experience.”

Watch this video all about how the Moonlite Storytime Projector can help you at bedtime:

Is it a classic bedtime story coupled with cosying up in bed that does the trick? Perhaps you find having quiet music playing in the background helps them calm down and feel sleepy? Do you try to get them into the same bedtime routine every night so they know when it’s time to wind down? Have you managed to find the blackest of black-out blinds? Or maybe a nice relaxing bath and getting into their cosy PJs tends to help?

However you get your child to relax before bedtime, post on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

letting them choose a book and reading it with them always works for me

IKnowWhenThatHotlineBling · 17/10/2018 18:29

When my daughter was younger, i used to find relaxed, quiet time would help a lot before bedtime. So we would just relax together on the sofa for half an hour before bed with no excitement or loud noises etc so she wasnt too stimulated.

She was a great sleeper!! xxx

Bath, bed, chat about the day and read a book.

suewilly · 17/10/2018 20:38

We love bathtime with lots of bubbles. Then a cuddle in warm pajamas with a cup of hot chocolate.
Once in bed we have a bedtime story from our favourite book before settling down and having their back's stroked.
It very rarely fails!

Sniff lavender oil and put the lumie lamp on xx

Normally its a nice warm bubble bath with lavender and chamomile, youngest is still partially breastfed at 2 so she has her milk and a story and she falls right asleep.

Its all about routine for us, having 7 children means bedtime could potentially be a nightmare but with a good solid routine our house runs like clockwork. We have at least an hour of 'calm' time before bed.No electronics! A bath, brush their teeth, a story or two with cuddles and dimmed light and then once lights are out, that's it until morning! Our eldest is 13 and youngest 11 months and its worked with all of them!

a nice bath followed by a bedtime story normally does the trick

KJ1986UK · 18/10/2018 15:14

I let them watch half an hour of their favourite cartoons with a warm drink before we go up to bed. I then read to them for about 15 minutes and that usually helps to get them off to sleep.

reading bed time stories :)

Parentingsortof · 18/10/2018 19:50

my children are 8 & 10 now, however from a young age we promoted 'quiet time' a period of 30 mins to an hour to relax in their rooms with no electronics, to read or play.

Works well for us

We love reading books in our bed together before sleepy time

ptak5566 · 18/10/2018 20:55

Warm bath followed by a rhyming story, lullaby or light show on ceiling.

molly57 · 18/10/2018 21:34

Read rather than TV or Computer games

HelenSw4les · 18/10/2018 21:38

Wind down half an hour before bathtime, bath, warm drink and then a story in bed works for us. The only time we struggle is when our little one is unwell which is to be expected.

pixelwife · 18/10/2018 22:09

My children have bathtime followed by a story and cuddles before they go to sleep. We try to make it relaxing but a routine and they sleep really well. I hope I have the same luck with baby no. 3 due in December!
