This activity is now closed

As parents, it’s almost a right of passage to have at least a few nights where your child just won’t settle down for bed. They’re either still a little hyper from the day’s events, they don’t feel like sleeping or they’re just restless. That’s why Moonlite would love to know how you get your child to relax and calm down before bedtime.

Here’s what Moonlite have to say: “Moonlite makes bedtime stories come to life, with full HD story images and in-app sound effects to make the reading experience immersive and magical for children. Feed and fuel children's imaginations and bring back the love of reading through a creative, immersive storytelling and bonding experience.”

Watch this video all about how the Moonlite Storytime Projector can help you at bedtime:

Is it a classic bedtime story coupled with cosying up in bed that does the trick? Perhaps you find having quiet music playing in the background helps them calm down and feel sleepy? Do you try to get them into the same bedtime routine every night so they know when it’s time to wind down? Have you managed to find the blackest of black-out blinds? Or maybe a nice relaxing bath and getting into their cosy PJs tends to help?

However you get your child to relax before bedtime, post on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I have had the same routine with my son from pretty much day one. We wind down by having some quiet time with a warm milk and a book. We then go and get ready for bed, washed, pjs etc and turn off the light he has a little dinosaur night light which he loves as you can choose a colour. We snuggle in and I read him a little bed time story and we sing a few gentle songs. Say goodnight and he has always gone to sleep by himself and has always stayed in bed. Sticking to the same routine everynight is easy for both me and him, no confusion, no upset just another part of our day. We both love our bed time routines together its nice having these quiet moments, i find it relaxing for me too.

Bath and then cuddle up reading a story, always works

janeyf1 · 11/10/2018 09:49

We read together then pull down the black-out blind

AR2012 · 11/10/2018 09:50

Bath and a story usually does it.

southernsun · 11/10/2018 09:52

Our evenings are dinner, then we either go for a walk or play in the garden, then its bath time, bedtime snack (milk and a biscuit or fruit) followed by a story and then it's lights out and sleep.

Although my daughter is older now I still love to read her a bedtime story.

For pre schoolers. once they are ready for bed, I found that keeping them upstairs helped because downstairs was associated with daytime playing/TV/books etc whereas upstairs could be reserved for upstairs toys, books etc so even if I let them play for half an hour before a story, they played with their upstairs toys, which meant they knew that bedtime was coming and actually looked forward to the upstairs toys as they hadn't played with them all day. Upstairs toys can be reserved for gentler toys and activities once the routine is established. It worked for us anyway.

We stick with the same routine of bath to wind down, cuddles and story time ....

shydaylily · 11/10/2018 10:18

Warm bath and stories

shellywkd · 11/10/2018 10:27

My daughter has started doing yoga and meditation in the evenings. It seems to really wind her down especially if she has had some hard homework to get through

amyhalliday1 · 11/10/2018 10:46

we have a set routine, bath with lots of play and lavender and a book and cuddle before sleep xx

liz1970 · 11/10/2018 10:46

A lovely warm bath and then a story :)

sheilads105 · 11/10/2018 10:46

Bath, story, song, bed.
Works most nights.
Calm & predictable

frances93 · 11/10/2018 10:53

My dd has only just turned 1 so I normally make sure she has her tea at 5:30 then play till 7, to make sure shes gotten all of the excitment out of her system.
Then at 7pm I bath her; moisturise, clean nappy, teeth cleaned and pj's. I then turn the lights low so she knows its bed time, read her a story and give her a bottle. This works well for us, when she starts drifting off I give her a kiss goodnight tell her its bed time and place her in her cot.

MissusDave · 11/10/2018 11:05

We have a bedtime routine. She can choose at least one story, we sit together in her room and read. She does the curtains herself and we usually sing to her as well

katieskatie82 · 11/10/2018 11:26

warm bath followed by a bedtime story. Then tucked into their warm beds with the night light on x

littlemonkeyz · 11/10/2018 11:27

We like to have a good, regular bathtime routine. Bathtime followed by a cuddle and a story. Brush teeth and then and chat before my son gets in bed with his teddies.

ThemisA · 11/10/2018 11:32

Get into pjs early and snuggle up on the sofa or bed for a couple of stories then tuck up with calming music on in the background or a talking book playing quietly.

deano777 · 11/10/2018 11:36

Bath and a bedtime story.

tallandlong · 11/10/2018 11:38

i make sure i'm relaxed, this helps. then reading a story

giddyypixie · 11/10/2018 11:40

He reads for a half hour to an hour and always has done from the age he could read on his own. Gret way to get settled for the night.

tamalyn1 · 11/10/2018 11:51

bath with squirty toys then getting in PJ's time then its read a book time and my neice loves her books, you can see her eyes drooping as shes reading lol

AuFinch · 11/10/2018 11:55

I always found that trying to stick to a routine helped our son to relax. It was a nice warm milk or hot chocolate, snuggled up in bed with a hot water bottle and reading a story to him, big huggie and kiss and tucked in.

bubbleybooboo · 11/10/2018 12:15

My daughter has a bath, a warming drink and we have snuggles with a story. she seems to settle well but there is days that feel like she never will sleep. Shes not always been the best of sleepers or good at settling down but a new family have moved on our street and her and her friend have had a few sleepovers and i think shes started doing it more since she saw what they do in her friends house too.

The moonlite looks amazing and definately something im going to look further into

iut044 · 11/10/2018 12:18

By reading them a story and talking them helps alot.
